White tone on tone fabric (MSW06) - ½ yd. Green tone on tone fabric (SHADG21) - 1 yd. White Flannel Fabric (WF108) Helpful Notions: Prewound bobbins (PB24W) Best Press Starch Alternative (BP60031) Rotary cutter, mat, and ruler Water soluble fabric marker (CL9521) Fasturn Set (CTFST) Bamboo Corner & Edge Shaper (PD50066) Instructions and Helpful Tips: (Read all instructions and tips before beginning the project.) Follow these instructions and tips to prepare, cut, embroider, and construct the tabletop tree skirt: 1. Stabilize fabrics with spray starch or a starch alternative such Best Press Starch Alternative. 2. Prepare the wedge pattern (see pages 8 and 9.) Enlarge the half pattern pieces 150%. Cut out and tape pattern pieces together along dotted edge. 3. Position the complete wedge pattern on the right of the white tone on tone fabric. Using a water soluble fabric marker, outline the wedge pattern six times allowing 1½" between wedges. Cut out wedges allowing ½"-¾" fabric around wedge. 4. Fuse interfacing to the wrong of the white tone on tone fabric. Note: Be sure to interface the entire fabric to provide additional support. 5. Embroider wedges: All design components are pictured on the following pages. Each wedge grouping indicates the order in which the various designs making up that grouping should be stitched. In each instance, start with background designs and work toward foreground designs. Some designs are embroidered over portions of other designs. To help determine placement of the designs within a scene, print templates for each of the designs, arrange scenes with templates, and embroider. Note: Although you can use conventional printer paper to print templates, printing on Translucent Foundation Paper allows you to see through the paper, making it easier to position designs. To embroider, use Hydro-Stick Tear-Away Stabilizer rather than hooping the fabric. Simply hoop the stabilizer and adhere the fabric to the sticky area of the stabilizer. For additional support during embroidery, add a layer of Stitch-N-Tear Stabilizer under the hoop before beginning to embroider. Remove excess stabilizer according to stabilizer instructions before layering the tabletop tree skirt. 6. Reposition the complete wedge pattern and trace, making any adjustments needed for alignment. 2 7. Assemble the tree skirt, using ¼" seam allowances. Add piping to each seam. Cut five ¾" bias strips from the green tone on tone fabric. Note: Round outer tree skirt corners for easier piping application, if desired. Press strips in half Place piping on right of one wedge, along edge, meeting cut edges. Meet a second wedge to the first wedge, right s together, meeting cut edges. Stitch, joining the two wedges, with piping sandwiched in between. 10. Add ties to inner edge. Cut two 1" x 18" straight strips from the green tone on tone fabric. Meet lengthwise edges, right together; stitch a ¼" seam, creating a tube. Turn tube right out using Fasturn. Knot one end of each tube. Insert wire into cylinder; turn hook clockwise. Pull wire back through cylinder, turning tube right out. Wrong Position ties at upper edges of the tree skirt. Pin or baste in place. Right Press seam flat, then to one. Repeat until all wedges have been joined. 8. Place tree skirt top, right down, on the flannel lining, right up. Cut lining using the tree skirt top as the pattern. 9. Add piping to outer edges of tree skirt. From green tone on tone fabric, cut six ¾" bias strips. Seam strips to form one continuous strip. Press bias in half, wrong s together meeting lengthwise edges. Baste piping to right of tree skirt outer edges as shown. Do not add piping to inner center circle of tree skirt. 11. Join lining to tree skirt. Meet lining to tree skirt, right s together. Keep loose ends of ties free from the stitching line. Stitch along center curved edge, sewing from cut edge to cut edge. Clip curve. Right Wrong

3 Press seam flat; then wrap seam toward the in of the tree skirt, folding along the stitching line. Stitch the adjoining straight edge of the skirt, beginning at the folded edge, continuing around the lower edge of the skirt, and leaving an opening on the final edge for turning. Press seam. Notch outer edge; angle-cut corners. Press tree skirt flat. Wrong 12. Turn skirt right out, using the Bamboo Corner & Edge Shaper to smooth the edges. Press edges and hand stitch opening closed. Approximate Finished Size: 33" in diameter
