Follow cutting and piecing instructions found in Patchwork Showcase Wall Hanging pattern, using these modified directions as you go. Please note: To create the dusty blue blocks featuring the embroidered scenes, cut larger squares of fabric from one fabric rather that piecing smaller center blocks and block corners. - Step 2, Fabric A: Fabric A is not used; replace with Fabric B and Fabric D. * Fabric B: Cut four 9" square blocks to allow for any shrinkage during embroidery. Stabilize, embroider, and then trim to 8-1/4" x 8-1/4". * Fabric D: Cut four 3-3/8" squares for border corner blocks. - Step 2, Fabric B: Instead of cutting sixteen 4-7/8" squares, cut only eight. When subcut, this creates 16 triangles. - Step 3, Assembly: Skip assembly of blocks with corner borders, and replace with the square blocks that you stabilized, embroidered, and trimmed to 8-1/4" x 8-1/4". Remove excess Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer according to stabilizer directions before assembling. - Step 6, third bullet: Instead of pressing seams toward borders, press them away from borders. - Prior to step 7: Stabilize and embroider border triangles and border corners. Remove excess Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer according to stabilizer directions before continuing. Stabilizing Information: Use Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer in conjunction with Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer. First, stabilize the entire wrong side of the pieced fabric with Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer. Next, use the Hydro-stick Tear-away Stabilizer rather than hooping the fabric. Simply hoop the stabilizer and adhere the fabric to the sticky area of the stabilizer. Economize by using stabilizer on a roll. Instead of cutting the stabilizer to the size of the hoop, keep the stabilizer on the roll when you hoop. After embroidering the first section, carefully tear away the fabric from the stabilizer. Give the stabilizer a quick press to smooth out the wrinkles from the first hooping. 2 More Embroidery Tips: When embroidering on dark fabric or when stitching one design on top of another, you may find that the fabric or the stitching underneath shows through the embroidery. Dark fabric or stitching underneath a design can distort and sometimes muddy the color of the top embroidery. We recommend using Hide-It Stabilizer as a topping to hide the color of the background and prevent those stitching issues. For this project, we used White Hide-It Stabilizer before stitching each of the designs. All design components are pictured on the following pages. Each grouping indicates the order in which the various designs making up that grouping should be stitched. In each instance, start with background designs and work toward foreground designs. Some designs are embroidered over portions of other designs. Design Layout and Modifications The guides on the following pages indicate which designs were used, where those designs were placed on the wall hanging, and how the designs were modified (resized, rotated, mirror-imaged, and/or thread color skipped), as well as the design stitching order.
