Follow cutting and piecing instructions found in Patchwork Showcase Wall Hanging pattern, using these modified directions as you go: - Fabric B: Cut only eight squares instead of sixteen. - Fabric C: Cut only the three 1-1/2" crosswise strips, not the 4-7/8" or 3-3/4" squares. Subcut as instructed. - Fabric E: Cut only eight squares following the directions originally instructed for Fabric E. - Fabric F: Cut six 4-7/8" and 3-3/4" squares following the directions originally instructed for Fabric C. 2010, Nancy s Notions ; 333 Beichl Ave., PO Box 683; Beaver Dam WI

2 - During step 3: After assembling the four corners to the center blocks, stabilize and embroider using the stabilizing information below. After embroidering, remove excess tear-away stabilizer according to stabilizer instructions, trim blocks to equal sizes if needed. - For step 5: Fabric E triangles replace Fabric B triangles, and Fabric F triangles replace Fabric C triangles. - Prior to step 7, stabilize and embroider the inner border and outer border using the stabilizing information below. After embroidering, remove excess tear-away stabilizer according to stabilizer instructions. Stabilizing Information: Use Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer in conjunction with Hydro-Stick Tear-Away Stabilizer. First, stabilize the entire wrong side of the pieced fabric with Fusible No-Show Mesh Stabilizer. Next, use the Hydro-Stick Tear-Away Stabilizer rather than hooping the fabric. Simply hoop the stabilizer and adhere the fabric to the sticky area of the stabilizer. Economize by using stabilizer on a roll. Instead of cutting the stabilizer to the size of the hoop, keep the stabilizer on the roll when you hoop. After embroidering the first section, carefully tear away the fabric from the stabilizer. Give the stabilizer a quick press to smooth out the wrinkles from the first hooping. Then rehoop the next section of stabilizer and continue embroidering. More Embroidery Tips: When embroidering on dark fabric or when stitching one design on top of another, you may find that the fabric or the stitching underneath shows through the embroidery. Dark fabric or stitching underneath a design can distort and sometimes muddy the color of the embroidery. We recommend Hide-It Stabilizer as a topping to hide the color of the background and prevent those stitching issues. For this project, we used White Hide-It Stabilizer before stitching every one of the designs. All design components are pictured on the following pages. Each grouping indicates the order in which the various designs making up that grouping should be stitched. In each instance, start with background designs and work toward foreground designs. Some designs are embroidered over portions of other designs. Please note that the cardinal designs embroidered in the upper right block, lower left block, and lower right block are portions of larger designs that require skipping thread colors and stopping the machine during stitching to embroider only sections of a design. Please pay special attention when embroidering to ensure only features of the cardinal are embroidered. Design Layout and Modifications The guides on the following pages indicate which designs were used, where those designs were placed on the wall hanging, and how the designs were modified (resized, rotated, mirror imaged, and thread colors modified), as well as the design stitching order. Thread juggling means a portion of the design will initially be skipped, then embroidered later by returning to the skipped portion. For the lower portion of the block, duplicate and merge together designs #141 (right and left) following the modified instructions above, overlapping ice backgrounds with the right design to stitch first. Stitch the right design skipping and modifying thread colors as noted above, through the end of color 21. Advance machine past color 22, the fishing line, and embroider the left bear design modifying thread colors as noted above until complete. Advance the machine back to color 22, the fishing line of the first bear, and embroider until fishing line is complete. If there is a hole between the overlapping ice backgrounds of the merged designs, use your sewing machine to patch the hole. Select a staggered edge satin stitch in a 6.5 width and 0.2 stitch length. Using thread color 1153, stitch covering the base fabric.
