It s New Blocks of the Month Clubs! WIN A $100 GIFT CERTIFICATE As an incentive to come every month to the Block of the Month Clubs, we are giving away a $100 gift certificate at the end of the year. Each time you come, you will get your name put into the pot. Also at all BOM Club meetings, we will have a surprise coupon or item for a discount. Winter Weather Policy Classes are cancelled only if the weather is bad. Call the shop first If you can not reach anyone at the shop, then class is cancelled or call Kathy at to verify. Don t come to class if you feel uncomfortable driving in bad weather. Is the study of our scraps; where we make no apology for having a scrap stash. We will meet the 4th Sat. of the month to discuss possibilities of using your scraps to make quilts. We will work on completing your PIGS (projects in grocery sacks) and projects to eliminate your scraps. The Jan 26 meeting 10am & Kay will give a lecture on how to get control of your scraps. At the 1st meeting, she will also give instructions on the following month s project. $25. flat fee; includes all handouts and instructions for the year. WOOL & NEEDLE HANDWORK This block of the month is a small hand project made with wool. Every month you will receive wool to complete a calendar month. This club meets the 3rd Saturday of the month, starting Jan. 19 at 10am. Judy will instruct & entertain you! You can stay & work on your project after class, if you prefer. Cost per month: 1st month:$35 which includes wool kits for Crazy Mat, Jan. block, & patterns 2nd-12th month $15.95 TRADITIONS CLUB A CHRISTMAS This is a great block of the month to improve your piecing & to have a finished quilt by the time Christmas comes again. You choose the size quilt & the style you want to make. Each month you pay $15.00 and receive 3 blocks. There are 5 months for blocks, 6th month is appliqué, which is optional and the 7th month is ideas on setting it together. At the time PRAIRIE WOMEN S SEWING CIRCLE CLUB You are invited to join a unique monthly club that takes you on a journey back in time. Gather together as the Prairie Women did, & hear anecdotal stories about their life & quilt making. At each monthly gathering, you will receive a small reproduction quilt project pattern. A membership fee of $35 includes exclusive club patterns & demos. Meets 2nd Saturday of the month starting Feb 9th. NEW Michael Miller Clubhouse Join the Club with Michael Miller Fabrics and Swirly Girls Design. Beautiful fabrics, innovative quilt designs and Bonus Projects make Clubhouse perfect for months of fun! Members create a section of the Clubhouse Quilt each month, plus receive a bonus pattern to an additional project. This Club starts on January and continues on the 4th Tuesdays of the month for 12 months. Cost per month:$22.95 EMBROIDERY STITCHES PROJECT This handwork BOM introduces you to a variety of embroidery stitches such as those you see on Crazy Quilts. New stitches will be taught every month. This club meets the 3rd Saturday of the month starting Feb 16 at 11am. $10/ per session you sign up, there is $25.00 fee which includes the book, Four Seasons at Minglewood. 2 Page 2 LEARN HOW TO MAKE A A BASIC CLASS NO EXPERIENCE NECESSARY Always wanted to learn to quilt or just improve your skills? We will cover all aspects of a quilt; cutting, piecing, block sizing, borders, basting, quilting and binding. You will have a completed quilt when you graduate from this class. We have a few machines available on request. Must pay in full to reserve a spot. This is a popular class, so sign up early! Cost: $100 includes handouts. We will talk about setting up your workspace, basting, & preparation, plus hands on work. This class helps you to feel at ease with machine quilting. LOCKER RUG HOOKING This class uses lots of your scraps too!! This is a technique class that teaches how to hook rugs, or trivets or placemats. Anything you want. One class is all you need to get started!! Cost: $15/ pattern required Thurs Jan noon or 6-8pm ENGLISH PAPER PIECING is basically the process of wrapping fabric around paper to make crisply formed shapes to be sewn together by hand. The project is a tablerunner using 2 hexagons & 2 diamonds. Penny Archer will guide you through this process. There are two sessions so you get plenty of experience. Mon Feb p or 6-9p & Mon Feb p or 6-9pm Cost: $30/ pattern included (kit available) HAND ING Perfectly rendered hand quilting stitches have been admired and envied since the beginning of quilt making. Learn these stitches and make beautiful quilts! Join Jan Smith as she shows you how to achieve this technique. Mon Feb p or 6-9 Cost: $20 CATHEDRAL WINDOW TABLERUNNER An old-fashioned patchwork design that is fun and very portable. It is also a quilt as you go method. The quilt pattern is a complex folding of fabrics that resembles windows. Jan Smith will illustrate how it is done. Cost: $25 Thurs Jan pm TRIPLE IRISH CHAIN One of the most popular quilting patterns is the Triple Irish Chain. Fashionable during the 1800 s, this traditional quilt is made up of two blocks. We will use the strip piece method to make this quilt. February Indigo Crossing Kay s Grandma Pugh Recipe for Peanut Brittle 3 cups sugar 1/2 cup warm water 1 cup white corn syrup Cook to a rolling boil and then add 2 cups raw peanuts Cook to 305 degrees, hard crack, take off heat and add 1 teaspoon pure vanilla 1 heaping tablespoon baking soda Pinch of salt Stir till all mixed, do this quickly, it will change colors to a rich brown. Pour in rows on the heated greased cookie sheets. Take a small buttered metal spatula and lift the candy and pull out to thin the candy. Keep lifting the candy so it doesn't t stick to the pans. When cool, put on a cooling rack to finish cooling. Store in container. *prep pans while candy is cooking - use 3-4 heavy cookie sheets, well greased with Parkey margarine. Heat your cookie sheets with a hair dryer to get them warm just before you are ready to pour.
