2 JAA SHINES IN SERVICE Fun and fitness was had by all that attended the 1 st annual Lincoln PACE Race, whose benefits went to support local schools and Alzheimer charities. JAA was proud to be there participating and being of service! Thanks to the generosity of our families, parents and scholars handed out medals, assisted race organizers, staffed the John Adams Academy booth and ran in the race. We not only spread the word about servant leadership, we modeled what we teach. This was a great day of connecting with the extended Lincoln community and a day where the JAA spirit shined! Thanks to the following for participating: Syaunna P., Camdyan, Timothy and Jeana J., Ava O., Jorge O., Dallen and Kirsten L., Lucas G., Mr. Gonzales, Mr. Boal, Mrs. Braatz, Ms. Whittaker, Mr. Yniguez, and any other members of our JAA family that remained anonymous. 3 ELEMENTARY VISUAL ARTS UPDATES END OF YEAR FUN IN THE ART ROOM! Monet s Garden, by TK: Scholars in TK learned about the artist Claude Monet and his water lily paintings. They practiced a new painting technique called stippling to create texture and bursts of color with dots of paint. They added water lilies once the first layer of paint was dry and then we will peel off the tape to reveal the perfect silhouette of a bridge. Kandinsky & The Dot, by Kindergarten: Kinder read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds and learned about the famous abstract artist Wassily Kandinsky. Using his 1913 painting Color Study: Squares with Concentric Circles as inspiration kinder scholars created the following post-it note mural together. Next they will paint their own panel similar to their design on the post-it note, practicing with tempera paints.

4 Spring Bunnies, by First Grade: First grade scholars learned about the artist Albrecht Durer and studied his wonderful life like painting The Young Hare. They used directed drawing to create a spring-time bunny hunched down in the grass and then used a stippling technique with white paint to create texture in the bunny s fur. Finally they added fun and spring-like details to create a complete work of art. Japanese Koi & Cherry Blossoms, by Second Grade: Second grade scholars worked very hard to create these beautiful multi-media works of art. First they use a watercolor wash in cool colors to create the water in the background of their work. They then used a blowing technique with a straw to create the branches of their cherry blossom tree and then used a printing method with the brush to create the gorgeous blossoms. They also drew and colored a detailed koi fish that they then added to the composition.

6 RECOGNITION At last week s board meeting the board recognized the Middle School Girls Volleyball Team and Mr. Clemmer, our Director of Athletics and Culture, for being the first JAA athletic team to win a LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP banner. Way to go PATRIOTS!!

7 US HONOR FLAG Last week we had the privilege of having the US Honor Flag on campus for a brief visit. Since September 2001, the United States Honor Flag has paid tribute to those who have lost their life in the line of duty protecting our lives, our homes, and our country and also those who currently serve our communities and our nation. Traveling over 7 million miles, the US Honor Flag flew aboard Space Shuttle Atlantis on NASA s final Shuttle Mission in The US Honor Flag has flown over Ground Zero, State Capitols, the Pentagon, Presidential Libraries, State and National Memorials, and attended funerals and tributes for America s fallen Heroes killed in the line of duty.
