1 VAPA Visual Arts Week At A Glance Specialist: Christina Jansson Grade Lesson Objective Standard Key Vocabulary Art Project 1 Day 1- Students will identify the elements of art and use observation and listening skills as they create a drawing of a giraffe. Students will use creativity as they incorporate line, shape, color and texture in their artwork Identify the elements of art in objects in nature, emphasizing line, color, shape, and texture. Line- The path of a point moving through space; lines can be straight or wavy, thick or thin, long or short. (Historic artist Paul Klee said, A line is just a dot that goes for a walk. Texture- The way something feels or looks like it might feel. Organic Shapes- Shapes found in nature that have natural, unpredictable edges. *My Giraffe Day 1 and 2 Sharpie, Crayon, Watercolor Wash *Artwork Is inspired by nature.

2 2 Day 1 - Students will use observation and listening skills as they follow guided instruction in the drawing of a rooster. Students will observe oil pastel techniques and incorporate their own creativity as they use their choice of colors and details in the foreground, middle ground and background Depict the illusion of depth (space) in a work of art, using overlapping shapes, relative size, and placement within the picture. Space- Element of Art referring to the emptiness or area between, around, above, below, or within objects. Foreground- Part of the picture plane that appears closest to the viewer. Background- Part of the picture plane that appears farthest from the viewer. Middle Ground- The area in a picture that is between the foreground and the background. *Rise and Shine Rooster Medium: Oil Pastels *Artwork is inspired by nature and Influenced by historic artist, Pablo Picasso.

3 3 Day 1- Students will create an original work of art based on the observation of desserts. Students will add their choice of details to include lines, shapes, patterns, and colors that emphasize value changes Create a work of art based on the observation of objects and scenes in daily life, emphasizing value changes. Observation- The act of looking at something or someone carefully in order to gain information. Repetition- Repeated art elements (lines and shapes) in a work of art. Value- The lightness or darkness of tones or colors. White is the lightest value, black is the darkest. *Sweet Treats Sharpie, Crayon, Watercolor Wash *Artwork is inspired by Desserts and influenced by American artist Wayne Thiebaud who has lived most of his life in California.

4 4 Day 1- Students will use the art elements of Shape/Form and Line to create a contemporized peacock.. Students will use creativity as they add mixed media Describe and analyze The Elements of Art (Color, Shape/Form, Line, Texture, Space, and Value), Emphasizing form, as they are used in the environment. Shape/Form- Shape is an area enclosed by line (two dimensional). Forms give the illusion that they are three dimensional and occupy space. Line- An element of art. A line is an identifiable path created by a point moving through space. Lines can vary in width, direction, and length. Lines can be horizontal, vertical, diagonal, straight, curved, thick, or thin. (when repeated form a pattern/design) Transparent -Able to be seen through. *Picture Perfect Peacocks Sharpie, Watercolor Wash, Tempera Cakes *Artwork is inspired by nature and The Elements of Art. Opaque- Not transparent. Can not see through. 5 Day 1- Students will create an Abstract composition based on real objects. Students will experiment with a variety of oil pastel techniques and incorporate them in their artwork Create an expressive Abstract composition based on real objects. Abstract Art- Expressing ideas and emotions by using elements such as colors and lines without attempting to create a realistic picture. Technique- A way of doing something by using special knowledge or skill. Oil Pastel Techniques- To include light pressure blending, heavy pressure blending, color mixing, and stippling. *Amazing Abstracts Oil Pastels *Artwork inspired by real objects, shapes and forms. Influenced by historic artists, Wassily Kandinsky And Georgia O Keeffe
