1 September 2018 Oak Leaf s Fall Show The Value of Values Adam Long was the judge and this was his Judge s Statement: Best of Show Winner Angie Franco Vacancy: What do I use for criteria to keep in line with the exhibit s stated theme? Was I to look at merely the Element of Value and isolate it from line, shape, color, and texture? Was I to evaluate artwork that places value on our cultural values? Was I to try and discern why an artist values a flower or landscape? I decided to keep it simple and I approached your art with openness and let those pieces speak to me with their own voices. I will not bore you (or myself ) with every thought I had about every piece. I ll get to the heart of the matter. Why did I choose Vacancy as Best in Show? I liked it. For such a small piece it is very complex. There are subtle things happening with texture and hue across the small canvas. It is a deceptively simple, almost symmetrical composition, however, there are slight angles and the hole of the bird house is expertly and delicately close to the rule of thirds so that the eye is comfortable resting there until the bird returns. I suppose I could have evaluated the value the artist placed on the Missouri State bird by painting an image of this Bluebird nesting box, but I didn t. 5 A big Thank You to all who helped at the Dardenne Prairie Switchout on September 15th. Your help was greatly appreciated and many hands helped for a quick turn around. Changes Election of officers will take place in November and their duties will begin in January We are looking for some ideas to add to our critique nights. Suggestions have been a swap night for art-related books, swap an art supply. Do you have any other ideas about demos, presenters etc.? Let us know your ideas. Stop by to see her work. Shirley Nacktrieb has artwork that was recently published in Who Is God: Continuance which is available on Amazon. Shirle is also teaching a class at St. Peters Cultural Art Center which starts October 3rd and runs for 7 weeks from on Wednesdays. The fee is $20 which is to be paid weekly and you are to bring your own supplies. Angie Franco won a blue ribbon at the SCCC Art Extravaganza for her painting Summer s Glory

6 September Meeting with 10 in attendance For our September meeting we had a live model who did various yoga poses. We started with a one minute pose and progressed to finally a 15 minute pose. It was challenging but also it forced you to commit quickly to your drawing = Here are some pictures from the event.
