1 1GRADE 1 ART Sept. How does art help us understand the world around us? How can certain colors and materials help to interpret and express nature and the seasons of the year? Review and reinforce knowledge of warm and cool color. Relate warm color to Fall color Paint an entire sheet of drawing paper in warm color. Cut and tear it into pieces to use as leaves (Watercolor) Learn to make a watercolor wash Paint an empty landscape and add a tree. Add the torn leaves Understand the way a tree grows and draw a tree from the roots up. Paint the tree and add the leaves they select colors, paint their backgrounds and add the tree. they add the torn leaves to their tree paintings. (Collage) Class presentation of individual tree paintings Ask the question, Does the student s drawing demonstrate that he/she understands the concept of root and branch development and structure? Grade 1 Link: Seeds and Plants Poems about trees Famous art that includes representations of trees.
