1 Grade/Subject:Art 7 th /8 th Donnis Simmons Pearl Public School District Pacing Guide st Nine Weeks Date Unit/Topic Standards/Objectives Week 1: Aug. 6-7 Review basic shapes/handbook 2a) Students will use the basic forms to create landscape art. Week 2: Aug Use drawing techniques showing a full range of value. Create a value chart 1a) Students will create a value chart showing a range of value. In addition, students will create fruit drawings using these values. Week 3: Aug Gesture/Contour drawing 5b) Students will draw figures showing movement. Students will draw objects using a single line. Week 4: Aug Symmetrical Balance 3b) Students will combine various materials to create art using symmetrical balance. Students will discuss and define symmetrical balance. Students will draw pictures showing symmetrical balance. Students will do a cutting and gluing project showing balance. Week 5: Aug. 31- Sept. 4 Art History 7a) Compare symbols used in various cultures to create a work of art. Students will create Guatemalan plate designs. Students will create symbols and drawings from the Guatemalan culture. Week 6: Sept Art History 5c) Create and analyze works of art from the cubist era. In addition, create and analyze works of art from the impressionist era. Week 7: Sept Line 2a) Discuss and define line. Create non-objective art using various lines. Create landscape and using various types of lines. Week 8: Sept Art History 3b) Students will view video on Egyptian art. Students will create names in the style of hieroglyphic style of writing. Students will create an Egyptian landscape using symbols. Students will create the Egyptian eye and the
2 pyramids of Giza. Week 8: Sept. 28- Oct. 2 Art History 3b) Students will combine various materials to create Greek art jars. Students must include some type of sports figure on jar. They will also create pictures of art from Rome. Week 9: Oct. 5-9 worksheet on design or art history. 2 nd Nine Weeks Date Week 10: Oct Color Theory 2a) Students will watch a video on color theory. Students will do a worksheet on the color wheel. Students will paint a still life using black and white values. They will paint the same pictures using values of one color. Week 11: Oct Color Theory 2a) Students will paint landscapes using primary and secondary colors. The students will create designs using warm/cool color groups. Include a background in each lesson. Week 12: Oct Shape 3b) Define and discuss shape. Do a worksheet on shape. Students will create tree designs using positive/negative space. Week 13: Nov. 3-7 Texture 3b) Define and discuss texture as it relates to art. Students will view famous works of art and identify various textures from each work of art. Students will use templates to create various types of textures using crayon and paint. The shapes will create fall type pictures. Week 14: Nov Color Theory 2a) Students will review color theory. Students will create bottle art using warm/cool color designs. Include a background. Students will create a paper cutting using a complementary color group
3 with one or more neutral colors. Week 15: Nov Collage 1a) Define and discuss collage. View famous works of art that show examples of collages. Students will cut pictures from magazines and create a focal point using a neutral color. The background will be done using warm or cool colors. Students will also do a cutting/gluing project show positive/negative space in which contrasting colors are used. Week 16: Nov. 30-Dec. 4 Art History 3b) Discuss and define Renaissance art. Students will create paper stained glass window designs using symmetrical balance. Students will also create abstract art using markers and paper. Students may use some type of seasonal art theme. Week 17: Dec Paper Folding 1c) Students will combine paper to create paper mask and paper sculpture. Week 18: Dec rd Nine Weeks Date Week 19: Jan. 4-8 worksheet on design or art history Rainforest animal drawing Lamp drawing 11a) Students will draw and learn scientific facts about animals of the rainforest. Design and draw a lamp. Students will use various drawing techniques to complete the animals and lamp drawing. Week 20: Jan Collage/Paper Wearing 1c) Student will use various cutting/gluing techniques to create collages made from various types of paper. Students will use paper strips to create paper weavings. Week 21: Jan Pattern 12a) Students will use pattern to design food labels that could be used in television production. Students will use patterns in Amate bark paintings.
4 Week 22: Jan Radial Design 11c) Students will create radial designs by using the subject matter from a period of art history. Students will create radial name design using monogram type letters. Week 23: Feb. 1-5 Art History 10b) Using famous works of art that are realistic, abstract, and non-objective. Students will create work based on their favorite style of art, and write why this style was selected. Week 24: Feb Mixed Media 10b) Students will use a variety of materials to create designs or compositions for card designs. Students will create sunset scenes using watercolor paint. Week 25: Feb Value Contrast 7a) Students will create paper weavings using contrasting colors and compare paper weavings to weavings on looms. Students will create paper kaleidoscopes using contrasting colors. Week 26: Feb Week 27: Mar. 2-6 Basic Stroking Techniques worksheet on design or art history 2a) Students will use the basic colored pencil strokes to create art based on the style of Georgia O Keefee. Students will create still life designs using sport objects. 4 th Nine Weeks Week/Date Unit/Topic Standards Week 28: Mar Discuss symbols and letters. 4a) Students will create a personal monogram of initial or name. Include pattern or symbols. Students will create three-dimensional cubes and include some type of symbol or pattern to decorate cubes. Week 29: Mar Fast Food Collage 4a) Students will discuss glue application and cutting techniques. Students will create a fast food collage using variety of cutting techniques. Week 30: Mar. 28-Apr. 1 Etching Techniques 1c) Students will use various spring designs in an etching. Students will use drawing
5 designs with a pencil. Color and apply paint. Use etching or scratch art to complete project. Week 31: Apr. 4-8 Discuss Op Art 3a) Create a composition using line and shape to represent op art by using thick and thin markers. Discuss famous op art artists and the movement of op art. Students will critique three works of art from the op art movement. Week 32: Apr Paper Mola Kuna Indians 8a) Create a textile design using at least two types of materials. Discuss Kuna Indians. Week 33: Apr Contour Line 8b) Create cool cat designs using contour drawing. Include two or more patterns in design. Create floral designs using contour design. Week 34: Apr Discuss proportion 2a) Produce elephant drawings using basic forms and design principles. Produce hot air balloon designs. Week 35: May 2-6 Review positive/negative space 9a) Create a composition of spotted frogs using design principles. Paint frogs. Paint flower pots. Week 36: May 9-13 Introduce Pointillism 2a) Demonstrate value using pointillism. Sketch birds, butterflies, or simple spring shapes. Complete project using pointillism. Week 37: May Review 9 weeks test
