3 Essential Question/ Learning Goal How can we use the elements of Value and Texture to draw a fall tree? How can we create a fall tree using mixed media? How can shapes and line be used in? How can we use the elements of Value and Texture to draw a fall tree? How can we create a fall tree using mixed media? How can shapes and line be used in? Activating Strategy: Lesson Opener, Warm-up, Hook Demonstrate and discuss Value and Texture. how to draw a tree, and how to make bark texture. Read Hedgie Blasts Off. Talk about use of Line, Shape and Color. how to trace shapes to make a rocket. Review how to. Explain a value scale and how to make one, review texture and how to make a sample scale. Demo to remind students how to draw a tree and how objects get smaller the further a way they are. Review Hedgie Blasts Off. how to draw stars using a capital A and planets.
4 Teaching Strategies: Procedures, Technology, Performance Tasks as a formative assessment. creating branches that build out from the tree trunk. Demo to students how to use a V to add on branches that get smaller as they move to the tip. Students add an environment value shading and texture. practice drawing trees on a sketch paper. Students who get it, will work with students who are having difficulty to peer tutor. draw a back ground environment for their tree. pick their rocket body shape and trace around it, then pick wing shape and trace around the wings. Students then add a window and door and color the entire Rocket. Color Space Flower sheet. Students are to use at least 3 colors on each flower. Take photos of students work in pairs or small groups each student creating their own fall tree, with the tree expert showing the others the steps. I will monitor student work and demo for individuals as needed. draw a fall tree using the V method to split braches. include a background and use crayons to color all ps but the tree. The tree will be outlined and the texture is drawn with a crayon. The tree is then painted with a wash so the texture lines can come through. tear leaves out of fall colored magazine sheets and glue them to the tree and ground. use crayons to draw and color their own stars and planets on their back ground. They should fill the page, and color all objects. cut out space flowers and glue them to their back ground. cut out rocket ship and glue them to their back ground. I will glue their picture to the window. Summarizing Strategies: Closing Activity drawings with peers at their tables. Students are to write their name and class on back of drawing. make sure their name is on their papers and table. Clean up and review a successful form. make sure their name is on their papers and table. Clean up and review shape. share drawings with peers. Clean up area and make sure their name and class period or listed on the back. make sure their name is on their papers and table. Clean up. table and tell me what they liked best.
5 Assessment/ Evaluation evaluate the successfulness of their drawings. Did student draw three a tree? Did the student use color to enhance the original drawing? Did students trace shapes to make a rocket? Did students color flowers? Did the student with branches that split and filled the page? Did the student use value and texture? Did students fill the page with their composition? Did students use crayon for the background and paint for the tree? Did students tear magazine paper for the leaves and glue it down? Did students draw stars and planets? Did student glue down flowers and rocket ship? Materials Needed Paper, pencil, eraser, Sketch paper, pencils, erasers Rocket template, paper, crayons, copies of space flowers. Paper, pencil, eraser, Manila Paper, crayons, water downed paint, glue, magazine pages in fall colors. Purple construction paper, scissors, glue, or glue stick, crayons Differentiation will be determined based on student s abilities and successfulness in accomplishing tasks.
