1 Art Whole School Unit Overview and Key Skills Checklist Must: COMPLETE PORTRAITS TWICE A YEAR Plan a sequence of lessons e.g. 1) Observe artist 2) skills 3)Draw + painting 4)Main skills e.g. textiles 5) Main skills e.g. textiles 6) Final piece Year 3 To master techniques Changes in Britain from the Climate Zones,,, Develop ideas from starting points throughout the curriculum. Collect information, sketches and resources. Adapt and refine ideas as they progress.

Replicate some of the techniques used by notable artists, artisans and designers. Create original pieces that are influenced by studies of others. S1 Use a number of brush techniques using thick and thin brushes to produce shapes, textures, patterns and lines. S2 Mix colours effectively. S3 Use watercolour paint to produce washes for backgrounds then add detail. S4 Experiment with creating mood with colour. S5 Select and arrange materials for a striking effect. S6 Ensure work is precise. S7 Use coiling, overlapping, tessellation, mosaic and montage. S8 Create and combine shapes to create recognisable forms (e.g. shapes made from nets or solid materials). S9 Include texture that conveys feelings, expression or movement. S10 Use clay and other mouldable materials. S 11 Add materials to provide interesting detail. S12 Use different hardnesses of pencils to show line, tone and texture. S 13 Annotate sketches to explain and elaborate ideas. S 14 Sketch lightly (no need to use a rubber to correct mistakes). S 15 Use shading to show light and shadow. S 16 Use hatching and cross hatching to show tone and texture. S 17 Use layers of two or more colours.
