1 INSTRUCTIONS BFC1314 FSL German Style Ornaments There are two versions of these designs. (You can see which numbers for each version below). One is for regular free-standing lace and the other is for using Angelina Film or Fibers. Mylar may work with these designs, but I haven t tested it. You can also embellish these designs all you want! Crystals look great. You can use feathers for the tails as I did for most, or regular fibers (not Angelina), metallic thread anything that looks good for a tail. Designs in Set Medium Large Angelina Designs 01,03,05,07,09,11,13,15,17 19,21,23,25,27,29,31,33,35 Regular Designs 02,04,06,08,10,112,14,16,18 20,22,24,26,28,30,32,34,36 ANGELINA DESIGNS GENERAL HINTS FOR ANGELINA: The most common tendency when first using Angelina Fibers is to use too much and press too long! This will produce a very stiff and sometimes dull result. You just need a light layer of fibers and press no more than three seconds. I recommend if you have never used Angelina fibers, to experiment with small amounts until you get the feel for the best result. Pressing too long also applies to Angelina Film. You can use the film as is, or press it for 3 seconds to make it firmer. You can also combine film and fibers. A real pretty result is taking a piece of film and sprinkling it with gold or silver fibers very few fibers! Then press 3 seconds. You can combine different colors of film and fibers for the same ornament. It s fun to come up with different combinations! Be sure to save all your excess pieces of film or fiber because they can usually be used to make a fun combination. The easiest way to prepare the fibers for these designs is to print the color chart. It will print actual size and use this to prepare your fibers. You can use the paper like one pressing sheet. Place your fibers so it covers the part of the design you are working on and cover it with a Teflon pressing sheet, another sheet of paper or parchment paper and press.

2 STITCHING THE DESIGNS You will find two basting stitches that are provided for the Angelina. Stitch Basting 1. Place your prepared fibers over the stitching and stitch Basting 2. Remove hoop and trim the fibers close to the stitching. Return hoop to machine and continue stitching. For some designs there are two sets of basting lines for different colors of Angelina. Design 01 and 19 This design uses two colors of film or fibers. When doing the green I made a circle with the center free: I then made a small circle of white fibers. 2

3 Design 03 and 21 For this bird I used yellow, watermelon and Holly berry fibers. I put a small amount of Holly berry for the head, then a strip of yellow and the watermelon. Designs 05 and 23 I used just Silver Iris Angelina fibers. 3

4 Designs 07 and 25 I used Holly Berry Fibers and then put some Gold Iris in the center before Pressing. I did enough for designs at the same time. If you are doing multiple stitching of the same design, you can make large pieces of film or fibers at the same time. 4

5 Designs 09 and 27 I used just Angelina Silver Iris 5

6 Designs 11 and 29 I used Calypso Blue and Silver Iris Fibers. These are done in two sections, first the blue and then the silver. There are two sets of Basting Stitches. Designs 13 and 31 6

7 I used Holly Berry Fibers. With some streaks of Watermelon to add some interest. 7

8 Designs 15 and 33 I used Wisteria Fibers for the outer circle and white for the center. 8

9 Designs 17 and 35 I used Silver Iris Angelina Fibers. REGULAR DESIGNS WITHOUT ANGELINA Stitch these designs on water soluble stabilizer. I used two layers of Vilene because I stitched more than one at a time in my hoop. When finished, trim excess stabilizer and rinse according to manufacturer s directions. Allow to dry flat and press with a little steam when dry. Embellish as desired. 9

10 ADDING TAILS I used feathers for most of the tails. I first put a *blob* of glue on the back of the finished design and taking a bunch of feathers, placed them in the glue. I added a small dot of glue on top and used a Q-tip to make sure all the feather ends were covered with the glue. Be sure to use a clear drying adhesive!. I used Beacon s Gem- Tac. For some of the birds I used some heavy metallic thread used for hand embroidery and attached them the same way. There are lots of things you can use for tails. All kinds of thread, thin yarn, regular fibers. Or cut a strip of Mylar or Angelina film into fringe. Roll the piece and glue to back of tail. EMELLISHMENT: Use hot fix crystals, regular glue on crystals, small beads anything sparkly! 10
