Completed Lotto Blocks Linda s Notes Each generation of quilters is to lift and care for the next generation. I see that desire reflected in each and every one of us who have chosen to be part of this great guild. Through the guild we can do so much more and we can make things better. We have the opportunity to care for and lift up those who need us the most. What motivates us in the guild? The simple desire for us to be of assistance, to give a helping hand to those who need it. This is done through our wanting to learn more about quilting. Whether it means making fidget quilts for Alzheimer s patients, teaching the 4-H club how to quilt or attending workshops. Members are doing what is needed most for the guild. To me - that is the essence of the guild: That desire to be of assistance to the new quilter or a quilter who is struggling with a technique. That willingness to work for the better of others. In our guild, when a member needs help, we can give that help - we don t walk away, we don t turn our back. We are always willing to help each other out. We are Quilters Guild Acadienne. Linda Ducotey QGA President Membership Mission The object of the Quilters Guild Acadienne shall be to preserve the culture and encourage the education and understanding of the many aspects of quilt making; to encourage all individuals in realizing their creative abilities. We are dedicated in our mutual effort to enjoy and understand, rather than judge, the accomplishments of others. Guild Blog: Guild quiltersguildacadienne@gmail.com Quilters Guild Acadienne Website:

Carolyn Sirmon made a motion to accept last month s minutes. Danielle Colvin seconded and the motion passed. We had one guest, George McRae and 3 new members, Ramona Mona Martel from Sunset, Terry Bellington from Arnaudville, and Kim Bourgeois from Lafayette. Treasurer s report: Michelle LeBlanc gave the treasures report. We started the month with $12, Revenue was $ Expenses were $ Ending balance is $12, Auction: Mary Meche reported that the annual guild auction will be held December 14. The Auction committee is still in need of fat quarters and donations. She encouraged small groups of members to come together to create larger projects, such as large quilts. She also invited members to a short committee meeting after the general meeting. Community Service: Liz Breaux donated two quilts on behalf of QGA and Krotz Spring Quilt Guild. They were given to two motorcycle police officers at a Harley Davidson event in Scott. Paulette Benoit donated the backing, batting and quilting service. Military Service: Alice Bott reported that the military committee has had one meeting so far with another meeting scheduled for June 5 at Alice's house. It will be a "cut and sew" meeting to assemble small wheel chair quilts as well as bags to fit over walkers and wheel chairs. She has been in contact with someone from Amelia Manor, a local nursing home, to help connect us with disabled veterans in need. She will also try contacting Hospice and Home Health. Birthdays: Birthday fat quarters were distributed. Renee Bourne generously donated over 100 fat quarters to the guild for our birthday basket. Thanks, Renee! Boutique: Dee delassus said the boutique is in need of magazines and books. ACA: Ken Broussard reported that he collected 10 quilts so far for the guilds "Journeys in Quilting" show at the Acadiana Center for the Arts opening June 10, 6:00-9:00. He encouraged members to attend the show wearing their nametags and hand out QGA contact cards. Engaging with the public will make it a more memorable experience for them and will also serve to promote the guild. Contact Ken if you would like to submit a quilt. Lotto Block: Judy Garber presented the "Georgia Block," the official Block of the State of Georgia, created in the 1930's. Judy was concerned that participation in Lotto Block has decreased over the past few months. Only 27 of 60 blocks were given out that morning. She asked the membership if they would like to continue the program. Discussion followed. It was decided that we should wait to see if participation increases. Membership: Alice Eastin gave the report. There were 52 members at the meeting as well as 3 new members and 1 guest. Sunshine and Shadows: Dana Guidry told how much she has enjoyed being chair of Sunshine and Shadows and thanked her new committee members. She reported that Doris DeRoche is due to have surgery soon. Program Committee: Diane Redfearn reported that the Program Committee has had their first meeting. This year they have adopted the motto, Better Today Than Yesterday. Programs and workshops will be geared toward newer and self-taught quilters. Next month will be an audience participation program, Where did you get that? If you have a cool quilting tool that you didn t get from a quilt shop, bring it to share with your fellow members! May Program: Goodwill Hunting Mona Redlich introduced Sue Welton who presented a talk on making quilts from shirts and other items purchased at thrift stores. Her workshops will be May 26th and 27th. Door Prize: Laura Parton won the door prize, a $25 gift certificate to All Brands courtesy of the guild. Name Tag: The Name Tag fat quarter was won by Jan Olivier. s: Danielle Colvin received two s recently. One from a local school teacher asking if anyone from the guild would be interested in helping to teach children to hand-quilt in a Project Linus group. The other was from the library asking if we could help with teaching to make fidget blankets. It was decided that more information was needed before making a decision on either . Website: Linda Ducotey said that Mary Ann Caruso would like anything that needs to go on the website to be ed to her. Presence in the Community: Acadiana Open Channel would like us to do a spot on AOC every three months. Our National Quilt Day event at the Mouton house will be March 17, There's currently no chair for the Quilt Day committee. 4 Programs June Where did you get that? We are having an... Audience Participation program!!! We have all been to a sew day or a class and someone has a cool tool or accessory that you won t find in your local quilt shop! So, if you have one of those nifty things that you use and it s not from a quilt shop, bring it to share the info with your fellow guild members! We learn from each other! In appreciation for your participation we will have a little something for you. July Hand Piecing 101 Our own guild member Mona Redlich will present a program on Hand Piecing. Yes, the thought of that just made a couple of you faint! You may think that nobody does hand piecing anymore but, you would be wrong! Hand Piecing has made a surprising resurgence and is now done with more modern methods. No longer are we collecting cardboard boxes or foam meat trays to make templates - now we have template plastic and can even use stamps on our fabric with ease! If you have never tried Hand Piecing we highly encourage you to try it! As a Guild we are all about learning something new and this will be a great opportunity for you! It is also a great traveling project and can go with you anywhere! Mona is also doing a workshop on the Friday or Saturday (July 28 or 29) following the meeting. You can sign-up for the workshop at the May and June meetings. Cost is $20.
