Everyone pulled together and we put on a Quilt Show to make us proud. I have heard so many good comments. Thanks to each and every member who contributed so much to the show s success. Well done!! Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from September to June Please bring the following to the June Meeting: Completed Outreach Projects Name Tag Loonie for Draw Show & Share Items Food for potluck OUR JUNE MEETING IS AT THE CHEPSTOW LION'S PARK PAVILION - Social at 5:30 PM with meal to start at 6:00. So now is the time for us to celebrate. The monthly meeting (aka the BARBECUE ) is next Tuesday, June 19 at 6 pm at Chepstow Park. We get to eat hamburgers that the husband(s) are barbecuing for us along with potluck salads, nibbles and dessert. Does it get much better than that? Then we will get to hear all the juicy info from the show, award prizes for the President s Challenges, and find out who won the Viewer s Choice Award. We will hear about other exciting plans in store for the fall. There will be a bit of entertainment as well. Bring along your items for show and share. I hope you can join us to enjoy excellent food, share our stories, and celebrate! President Marion WANTED - A person to build a storage cabinet for the guild by the end of August. 3 SEPTEMBER 18, Threads That Bind Lois Plantt - Today s Gifts Tomorrow s Heirlooms - Vendor & Trunk Show OCTOBER 16, TISSUE BOX TRUNK SHOW by Jennifer Houlden of QUILTS BY JEN - After participating in a President s Challenge to create a piece of art using another art medium as inspiration, Jennifer decided to turn her medium of inspiration into a series. See how tissue boxes have inspired her and the pieces of art she has created from this common-place household item. Check out her website: quiltsbyjen.ca NOVEMBER 20, SUSAN FORBES - Trunk show based on her journey through quilting. She will present a variety of quilts and showcase her love of using various specialty rulers (i.e. Curved piecing). Her most recent works have been focused on the Quick Curved Ruler by Sew Kind of Wonderful. APRIL 16, 2019 Trunk Show Developing the Designer in You by Pattern Designer Brenda Miller from Among Brenda s Quilts & Bags. There s something for everyone when Brenda shows over 60 quilted pieces including numerous quilts, bags, runners etc. Hear how Brenda stumbled into the pattern design business and how that business has grown. Check out her website: COURSES WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 17, Jen Houlden of Quilts By Jen Mini Bargello Sunflower - cost $ Learn how to create appliqué designs with movement through the placement of light, medium and dark values. Working with colour runs and strip sets you will create a Bargello run for the appliqué pieces. Learn how to finish off the flower and add detail to each petal by using the technique of free motion zigzag. She will also discuss the use of different background colours using the colour wheel to pick the optimal colour to highlight the flower and set it off. Finally, learn about simple border designs that will enhance the flower rather than distract from it. The pattern and all templates will be provided and Jen can have fabric kits available or you can select your own colour runs. Suitable for all levels of quilters. NOVEMBER 20, Susan Forbes Clamshells with the Quick Curve Ruler Cost - $35 Cut, sew and arrange curved blocks to form a quilt. You will learn how to use the Quick Curve Ruler, how to interpret the pattern and special tips for squaring up the blocks. You will not get the entire quilt completed; however you will learn all the necessary techniques to piece the entire quilt. Students will be required to purchase a Quick Curve Ruler and the Chic Shells Pattern by Sew Kind of Wonderful. No previous experience required for curved piecing WEDNESDAY, APRIL 17, 2019 Course with Brenda Miller teaching one of Brenda s bags. Details to be announced in Sept. COMMUNITY OUTREACH REPORT Requests for comfort quilts are to be made to Pat Golem at or at golemp@live.ca. This past month 5 comfort quilts were handed out. For the year 45 comfort quilts including 7 children s quilts to the Optimists, 1 dignity quilt to Brucelea Haven, 6 cancer hats to the Owen Sound hospital and 1 mission dress to Operation Christmas child were donated. 4 CHALLENGES Thank you to everyone who participated in making blocks for the Humboldt Broncos. Special thanks to President Marion (who also provided a card which accompanied the quilt tops & blocks, expressing our sympathy), Glenna Hibberd, Catherine Grubb and Elaine Harper for helping me stitch the blocks into 17 quilt tops with 4 blocks left over. They were sent to the quilt store in Humboldt as they requested. Our thoughts and prayers to those receiving the quilts. Their lives have forever been changed. Another thank you to those who participated in the "grey fabric" challenge. In case you didn't see the projects at the Quilt Show, first prize went to Bobbie Voisin for her Bible cover, second to President Marion table runner/wall hanging, third to Helen Meyer for her small cardinal wall hanging and fourth to Gwen Slater for her pillow. Winners received gift certificates for Sanity Hill Quilts. Have a wonderful summer. See you in September. Evelyn INVITATION TO FIVE STAR QUILT MEETING, TEESWATER The Five Star Quilt Guild is having Anita Zoben from Cottonmill Threads coming to our meeting on June 27 and giving a 45 minute talk on Threads. Our meeting starts at 10 am, but people start showing up at 9:30, for socializing. It is held at the Community Centre in Teeswater. If you are heading south in Teeswater turn left at the next street past traffic lights ( corner where grocery store use to be and now Ace Hardware is). Continue down that road and it is at the end. Entrance is at the back. If any of your members are interested in joining us, we would love to have them. It is $5.00 guest fee and it is our year end meeting. Anita will also have a selection of her threads and notions to sell. Also if you have ordered from her before and wish to place an order ahead of time, she will bring it with her. So, if you would like to join us to hear Anita and stay for potluck lunch, just bring a small dish to contribute to the meal, as well as plate, silverware and mug. Cathy Parsons MINUTES - APRIL 17, CHEPSTOW COMMUNITY HALL Meeting was opened by President Marion B. She welcomed everyone on this very snowy April night. Sheila O H. Introduced our guess speaker Kathy Wylie, a very accomplished quilter. Kathy gave an interesting talk on her journey of quilting and especially her love of appliqué. SHOW AND SHARE: 9 people braved the wintery night to show their latest creation. Everyone was encouraged to do blocks for the Humboldt Hockey team. Cobwebs and Caviar from Shelburne are going to ship them out west. 3 thank you cards and a letter from CQA were read. 4 quilts from outreach were shown. Door prize----- Linda D. Name tag-----louise M. MINUTES - MAY 15, President Marion B. opened the meeting. Good to be back in the Knox Church Pat G. introduced Sandra Schreinert, Hospice fund raiser, a part of the Gray Bruce Hospice committee. She described the hospice each room is like a mini apartment containing a kitchenette, bedroom and living area. There have been funds allotted in our area for a 6 bed hospice. Its temporary home will be in the Hanover Hospital. Its permanent home will be in the Walkerton area. The annual Hike for Hospice raised $160, It is held the first weekend in May. The funds from our Toonie Table at our Quilt Show will be donated to the Hospice. It was suggested that we make a Dignity Quilt for the Hospice. Treasurer Report: As circulated in the newsletter. Cards of thanks were read. FYI: New meeting place for the Guild, the committee will talk with the executive Committee on June 12 before presenting to the full guild. LIBRARY: All the magazines are free tonight. There will be no limit on the number of books that can be taken out for the summer. QUILT SHOW: Several people are setting up the tables on Wednesday. Everyone is needed to work on Thursday. There is a lot to be done. Start at 9am. Quilts to be dropped off starting at 10am. Until noon. 1pm. the New Millennium Quilters Guild Newsletter June Page 4

5 quilts will start to be hung. Bring a bag lunch, muffins and coffee to be supplied. All the time slots for the show were filled.
