1 New Millennium Quilters Guild Greetings to everyone! Newsletter JUNE 2015 Mailing Address: P.O. Box 20153, Hanover, ON N4N 3T1 Address: I hope that you all are enjoying the nice sunny days that we are having. The weather is still at a flip flop stage but it will soon get to the hot humid summer days that l am not a fan of. Guild Meeting Dates June 16, 2015 September 15, 2015 October 20, 2015 November17, 2015 December 15, 2015 Meetings are held at: Knox Presbyterian Church 208 Cayley Street Walkerton 7:00 P.M. 9:00 P.M. Meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month from September to June Please bring the following to the June Meeting: Name Tag Loonie For Draw Show & Share Items Underground Railroad Blocks/Quilt completed and incomplete Completed Outreach Projects DEADLINE FOR SEPTEMBER NEWSLETTER IS SEPTEMBER 8TH newmillenniuqmquiltersguild@gmail.com This time of the spring is my favourite. It means that my mind is on the gardening centres. The one that l cannot pass by is the Davis Hill Nursery on my way to Hanover. This is an addiction that gives me as much enjoyment as the fabric shops do on a cold rainy day in the wintertime. On one visit to the nursery, minding my own business, drifting into fantasy land, just happen to bump into another lady. Obviously doing the same as myself, off in another world, first we scared each other, then of course started talking about the flower display that we both were admiring. just making conversation, about how we could work the plant from that area with another plant that she had found. As usual just meeting someone in that situation the conversation turned to other hobbies that we enjoyed. This lovely lady almost was embarrassed to tell me that she spent a lot of money on gardening, with the flower beds, and container plants. Yes l agreed with that - l am guilty of the same. She admitted that she also was part of a group that got together to work on card making, this also is an expensive hobby. Say no more! We all know what my confession to her would be. l told her that the fabric shop was my candy store, and quilting and sewing was my life. We had a really good laugh and came to the conclusion that we were not bad people at all, we have our hobbies, and they are near and dear to us. We parted company with the assumption that we could be spending our money in a lot worse ways. Need l tell you how much that l spent at that nursery? WELL not quite as much as at the fabric shop. EVERYONE HAVE A SAFE SUMMER SEE YOU AT OUR PICNIC. President, Marie Bolton New Millennium Quilters Guild Newsletter June 2015 Page 1

The Walkerton Herald Times recently had an article noting the opening of the Seven Bridges Residential Treatment Centre for Youth near Paisley, ON. The outreach committee has approached this facility to see if they would like to receive a donation of pillowcases from the guild. They would be happy to do so. The facility offers therapeutic treatment programs to youth between 14 and 19 years old who are struggling with drug, alcohol or gambling issues as well as mental health issues such as depression, anxiety eating disorders, compulsive behaviour or low self-esteem. The guild will be making a donation in September and again in December. The pillowcases are for both boys and girls and are to be bright with no pictures of guns or war items. Over this past year outreach has donated 33 comfort quilts, 2 fire quilts, 50 rug mugs to Maple Court and 50 rug mugs to R Villa in Ripley. The items made for Days for Girls included 162 T&T liners, 25 serger liners, 38 bags and 15 shields. Thank You for your time and care making all of these items.
