Catch up with friends in the Common Room pm Welcome and introduction of tutors 6.30pm Tutors Dinner SATURDAY 17 March Class times: 9.00am to noon and 1.00pm to 3.30pm SUNDAY 18 March Class times: Registrations: Receipts: Kits: Cancellations: Accommodation: Registration fee: Mobile phones: Bring your own cup: Evaluation forms: 9.00am to noon and 1.30pm to 3.00pm (The longer lunch break gives time to look around the classrooms and display of work.) These will be processed upon receipt of the form and payment. The requirements list is your class confirmation and receipt of payment. To be paid direct to tutor at class. Cancellations received before the 15 February 2018 will be subject to nonrefund of the registration fee although class fees will be returned. There will be no refund on cancellations received after 15 February Students are required to arrange their own. Lake Wanaka Tourism website has an excellent choice of hotels/motels. Visit Includes tea and coffee available in the East Common Room. As a courtesy to tutors and fellow students all cell phones should be turned off during class. To morning teas and lunches. An evaluation form will be given out during class, please return these to your tutor. We value your input. Brickbats, bouquets and suggestions all accepted. Suitability of classes: The classes are arranged for adults but a teenager with exceptional stitching ability may be able to cope with a class. Please enquire with the Registrar. 4 Wanaka classes 2018 Jane Carroll 3401 YOU OUGHT TO DO THIS HARDANGER ORT This Ort is on 28 count linen and uses a variety of motifs stitched with Perle threads. It will be lined with dupion silk. Some preparation before class. Kit cost $25 approx. Jane has been a member of the Otago Embroiderers Guild for many years. She has tutored a number of classes and especially enjoys counted thread techniques. Alison Cole 3403 CAROLINA LILY The background is layered fabrics with couching to edge the mountains. A variety of techniques are used for the lily, e.g.padding, detached petals, wrapped wires and attaching the wrapped elements. Design size 18cm x 25 cm. All skill levels welcome. Kit cost $100 AUS. Will be converted to NZ $, credit card accepted. Alison has embroidered most of her life and has tried most techniques. Her favourites are Goldwork and stumpwork. Alison is passionate about passing on her knowledge and is working on her fifth book. Gaynor Chronican 3402 NATIVE BIRDS AND FLOWERS TILES Using Elizabethan embroidery techniques, the birds and flowers are created to depict our native beauty. Stitched using Rahamahal art silk, silk or stranded threads of 1-2 strands on silk fabric. Suitable for those who have experience with fine threads and a moderate level of stitching. Optional Kit approx. $20, instructions only $5. Gaynor has been teaching embroidery throughout NZ for many years. She particularly enjoys raised embroidery work and is an accomplished embroiderer. Kath Cole 3404 EMBELLISHED ZIP Embellish a long zip with hand dyed lace, hand stitching and beading. The zip will be able to be worn as an adornment, added to a piece of clothing or piece of art Intermediate level. Partial Kit $20. Kath enjoys exploring the use of different fibres in new and interesting ways. She has been a member of the Otago Embroiderers Guild since 1999 and has taught various fibre art techniques.

5 Fiona Crowther-Aker 3405 DAISY MUSIC BOX Raised Embroidery Stumpwork with optional cutwork applique. This can be completed as a Music box or finished as individual Panels. Each panel is 12cm x 12cm. Preparation is required prior to class. Instruction booklet Stitch with me & DVD $30, plus postage, sent out prior to class. Wooden musical box an additional $30. As a member of Aoraki Embroiderers Guild, Fiona has been stitching & teaching for many years. She enjoys all techniques and particularly creating her own designs. Julie Hennessey 3407 BEAD EMBROIDERY Create one of a kind piece using beads and other embellishments. Patterns supplied. Some materials will be available to purchase. Julie has a love of all things sparkly and enjoy mixing textures and colours to create pretty little things. Lynette Crowther 3406 PAISLEY DOODLE Raised, padded embroidery worked in your choice of threads on canvas or heavyweight fabric. Great class for experimenting with colour and learning stitches. This piece could become a hussif, cushion or hung canvas. Worked area 15cm x 35cm. Pattern Instruction booklet & DVD $30 sent out prior to class, plus postage. Stitching is my passion, my favourite being surface stitchery. I enjoy all techniques and specialise in stumpwork and crewel work. Anne Jaquiery 3408 OR NUE SILHOUETTE OR MONOTONE Students will select a picture of your choice, scan, resize and print onto material to stitch in Or Nue techniques. Tutor can supply some pictures. Silver on Black or Black on silver. Kit cost: $25. Anne has a passion for sewing, beading and stitching or anything she can design, make or create. Anne has attended Wanaka Embroidery School classes for over 20 years and now as a tutor, is able to pass on all her wonderful knowledge. REMEMBER No photograph can do justice to the actual work. 6 Colleen Kelly 3409 WESSEX SAMPLER Create a beautiful sampler by blending and harmonising your colours, with simple stitch combinations. A number of the designs are from Wessex Stitchery written by the late Gay Eaton. Requires a keen eye for counted thread work. Kit cost $30 plus notes. Colleen has been teaching embroidery and patchwork for the past 11 years, and has taught at Wanaka many times. Colleen likes to design her own projects. Judy Mason 3411 FOUR SEASONS Four tiles featuring the colours through the seasons. Worked in crewel/surface stitchery using stranded threads. Cost Effective using single strands of thread mostly from your stash. Kit cost: $30 includes silk fabric for the 4 tiles with the design on, photo and full set of instructions. Judy has been embroidering and designing for many years and loves using a variety of colours together to create an image Sue Lucas 3410 LITTLE CANVAS BAG Using three types of threads to achieve the pattern you will create a small bag. Different thread combinations will be pre-ordered before class. Kit cost $45. Sue loves embroidery and trying as many techniques as she can. Sue enjoys the challenge of designing her own work and sharing it with others through teaching. Shirley Pygott 3412 HE LOVES ME Traditional casalguidi techniques in stranded & Perle cottons are used to create a beautiful bunch of flowers. You may use your own colourways or purchase a kit. Some preparation required prior to class. $6 Partial kit payable by all participants. $55 full kit optional and includes partial kit colour options red or yellow. Shirley has been tutoring for thirteen years specialising in metal thread embroidery and surface stitch techniques. She enjoys making seemingly difficult techniques accessible to all levels of stitcher. DISCLAIMER If unforeseen circumstances occur the Otago Embroiderers Guild Inc. Wanaka School reserves the right to select tutors and classes other than those advertised and will, if time allows, advise affected class participants of the changes made. Classes in Wanaka or Dunedin with insufficient enrolments will be cancelled and class participants reallocated to one of their other choices.

7 Kerry Seeley 3413 RETICELLA CIRCLES Needle lace technique which originated in Italy. This is a rectangular mat with the same design at each end. Students can elect to just stitch one end or move ends closer to make a square mat. Some preparation required prior to class. Kerry s passion is white work in all its counted forms. Kerry has been tutoring around NZ for the past 12 years. Alison Snepp 3415 EMBROIDERY FROM FEZ, MOROCCO This embroidery style is called Aleuj. It is counted thread using a stitch that is almost unknown today. Typically the embroidery is Monochrome and the yellow/green used is characteristic. Make a small bag. Finished size can be decided by each student. Suitable for all embroiderers with experience of different types of counted thread embroidery on linen fabric. Workshop folio cost NZ $22. Alison has been a Freelance embroider since She has taught in the UK, NZ and Australia. Alison s particular interest is in the embroidery of Central Asia, India, Greece and Turkey. Let her introduce you to the women who originally worked these techniques. Desiree Simpson 3414 SUMMER FIELDS Create a flowery, summery field on a linen, cotton blend using basic embroidery stitches with stranded and pearl threads. Suitable for framing, cushion or bag front. Beginner, intermediate. Desiree has taught embroidery classes for 25 years and likes to design her own projects. Nicky van der Jagt 3416 IN THE GARDEN This is an opportunity to explore stumpwork for the first time using basic techniques, embellishing with beads, wrapped rings and other accessories. Create a fun, bright conversation piece. Kit cost $20. Nicky comes from a teaching and design background, with embroidery her main passion, Nicky enjoys creating composite works and believes we all should enjoy what we are doing and have fun. Stitch and Chat 3417 This is your opportunity to take part in our 34th Wanaka Embroidery school. Bring along a project and enjoy the company and expertise of other stitchers in a relaxed environment. Stitch & Chat is held in the same room as the display of work to enable supervision of the display.

8 Dunedin classes 2018 Tuesday 13 & Wednesday 14 March (N.B. this class is PRIOR to Wanaka weekend) Alison Cole THROUGH GRANDMA S WINDOW This piece employs a range of stumpwork techniques to create the embroidery. Suitable for intermediate/advanced stitchers. Design size 13cm X 14cm. Kit Cost $110 AUS will be converted to NZ $, credit card payment available. Wednesday 14 & Thursday 15 March (N.B. this class is PRIOR to Wanaka weekend) Alison Snepp MINIATURE DRAWN THREAD SAMPLER This lace-like miniature sampler is worked on 32 count scrim linen fabric with Broder cotton and Au Ver a Soie 100/3 silk thread. It comprises a number of drawn thread techniques and patterns. Finished size is 15.5cm x 27 cm. Intermediate to advanced stitcher. Kit cost $55 NZ. Tuesday 20 & Wednesday 21 March Alison Snepp PASHTUN EMBROIDERY This embroidery style is worked by the Pashtun people of Afghanistan. It is metal thread embroidery that often includes mirrors and characteristic turquoise blue beaded trims. You will make a small purse using metal thread couching. Suitable all levels of embroiderer. Some preparation prior to class. Kit Cost $60 NZ, plus postage. Wednesday 21 & Thursday 22 March Alison Cole BEETLE WING FLORAL This piece has a number of techniques used in India during 19th and 20th centuries. Suitable for framing or a box top. Design size 17cm x 17cm. Kit Cost $70 AUS, will be converted to NZ $, credit card payment available. MERCHANTS Elna-Sewing and Jan s Patch ( / cell: ) BJ Colourways ( ) Bead and Sequin Supplies ( ) and Chris Aspinall (knife & scissor sharpening) will have their trade stalls open during the weekend The Shot Central Coffee Cart (Coffee and Hot Chocolate) Some tutors will have supplies available for students enrolled in their class only.
