1 Quinsippi Needleworkers Founded in 1977, Quinsippi Needleworkers Chapter is currently in its 41st year. Steeped in wisdom and experience, this chapter has a long history of education and outreach in the community. Recipient of the 2016 Outstanding Arts Organization by the Arts Quincy Society, the group is always up for a challenge. The chapter currently has 20 members. It s a mighty group on the mighty Mississippi. The members are excited to host fellow stitchers of the Heartland Region and have wonderful plans for a great weekend. Thread up your needle for Heartland Region 2018 Spring meeting: A Rootin Tootin Good Time is planned at our Quinsippi Sew Down. (A hoe down was a Friday night gatherin at the barn for music, dancin, eatin and visitin. A real good time!) Our Sew Down is beginning on Friday evening with s mores around the campfire. We invite you to wear your denim, chambray and prints along with your aprons to all of our events. Question: If you wear cowboy clothes, are you Ranch Dressing? No need to dress up fancy at our Quinsippi Sew Down. It is planned to be a casual, fun time in Quincy, IL. We offer classes for the city women and the farmers wives! (Can you make a silk purse from a pig s ear?) We are giving you a lot of bang for your buck! Quinsippi Needleworkers have planned the weekend just for you! A friend suggested I try a counted cross stitch sampler and thus began my love/addiction of stitching American school girl samplers. From then on, all have been paper charted and stitched on linen of various thread counts from Large or small, simple or elaborate they all have been a joy to stitch. It will be a pleasure to share many of my 100+ collection with you as all have a story to tell. Pull me closer John Deere All Day Classes Saturday Fantasy Flower Fantasy Flower is a beginning Silk and Metal Embroidery project designed by Rachel Watkins for EGA in appreciation for receiving the Mary Dick Digges Scholarship for Surface Embroidery. Rachel s design was published in the Needle Arts magazine in December, 2012 and is taught here with permission from Rachel and EGA. This design uses Japanese flat silk, Kreinik Metallics, and Japanese #5 gold. The student will learn how to lay flat silk and couch metallic threads. Saturday 9-12 and 1:30-4:30 Kit Fee: $25 Skill Level: Beginner (an opportunity to try this technique) Class Size Limited to 12. Teachers Solveig Walstrom has been a member of the Cedar Valley Chapter of EGA since She has studied Japanese Silk and Metal Embroidery with Shay Pendray for 10 years. Solveig has taught for her EGA chapter and presented a program on her Marghab Linen collection to many chapters in the Heartland Region. Solveig is the 2017 National Gold Thread Award winner and is currently serving as 2019 EGA national seminar chair. Sheri Ekstrom has been a member of the Cedar Valley Chapter of EGA since She has studied Japanese Silk and Metal Embroidery with Kay Stanis. Participants in this class will create a collage sampler of leaves on hand dyed vintage linens using at least three different techniques including felting with wool, silk and cotton; embroidered leaves with decorative threads and beads; and metallic painting on a synthetic fiber, Tyvek. Art quilter Sharon Wasteney will inspire and instruct as students get in touch with the artist within while creating their personal design. A kit to be purchased as part of the class will provide most of the supplies needed for completion. Saturday 8:30-11:30 Kit fee: $30 Skill Level: All Teacher Sharon Wasteney retired to Hannibal, Missouri after a career in youth and adult education fields in Iowa. Sharon grew up sewing through 4-H and family exposure to all needlework, especially quilting, through her paternal grandmother. She has had artistic quilts juried into American Quilter s Society shows in Paducah, Syracuse, New York, and Des Moines and won numerous ribbons at local, regional and state shows. One of her works was recently accepted for the juried 2017 Quilt Week Show in Paducah. Sharon has enjoyed teaching project-based intergenerational quilting classes; demonstrated quilt making for youth programs; organized a local quilt documentation project; and now designs and makes store samples for nationally recognized quilt shop, Hickory Stick, in Hannibal. Her personal satisfaction with needlework comes when she is sharing ideas that will provide inspiration and encourage creativity with quilters of all ages. Saturday Afternoon Saturday 9AM-Noon Kit fee: $25 Skill Level: NO BEGINNERS PLEASE Teacher Tubular Peyote Pen This is an advanced beginner beading class. Each participant must have knowledge and be able to use peyote stitch. Students will choose one of two designs, Land of the Free or Follow Your Dreams. Students will learn to make a tubular beading cylinder which can be slid onto a Pilot gel pen. Barbara Ford has been doing some sort of stitching since the age of twelve. She started with surface embroidery and cross stitch, moved on to crochet and knitting. Then in about 1980 she found EGA, where she experimented with many forms of stitching.. About ten years ago she took a class at a Sinsinawa get away and discovered a love for beading. She learned to make one beaded pen and wanted to create more. Since that time, Barbara has created over 30 designs of her own and made several thousand pens. She has taught beading at MRVC, Tri State Needle arts, Edgewood Baptist, and to friend groups out of her home.
