1 : Life s a Stitch! It s hard to believe how quickly summer has flown by, but the two or three little red leaves that have started to peek out of my fire bush and the cool nights speak of the coming season. I love this time of year with the school buses making their first rounds, the first taste of crisp apples right off the tree and the promise of an explosion of color as we head into fall and a new season of cool weather knitting! Speaking of an explosion of color, we are in the middle of unpacking the boxes and boxes of newly arrived fall yarns in gorgeous colors. I cannot help but envision hours and hours of pleasure knitting cables in sweaters, stranded colorwork in cowls and mitts, lacy wraps and lots and lots of socks! Be sure to check out our Yarns in the Spotlight page to get a preview of the many new and beautiful yarns we have in our fall selection and stop in soon to touch and see the new yarns in person and samples on display as well as the fresh stock of old favorites to admire and inspire. What s Dizzy Doing? Have you met Dizzy and the gang yet? Our online store, DizzySheep.com, has grown from a Dizzy Deal-A-Day website to a full online store! We have so many new and exciting things planned this fall to share with you that we have added new shop hours, too!! Beginning September 7th, and in an effort to address So Many Patterns and So Little Time, we have expanded our shop hours to include Sundays from 10:00am to 4:00pm. We hope these additional hours will bring you joy and ease your holiday season shopping and gift making. We look forward to spending extra time with you! December, April and August will be social only months, with a chance to catch up on projects. Projects will be selected from KCC 3. There will be a chance to learn new skills such as chart reading, determining gauge, yarn substituting and more, as well as meeting new people (and new yarns!) Drop in help is available throughout the month to all Club members at no additional charge. Patterns are listed under the description of the class on the shop calendar. No longer is intarsia a scary prospect with dangling bits of yarn and holes where you don't want them. Anne has created a foolproof way to knit intarsia in the round, so the possibilities are endless... hearts on hats, trees on mittens, Christmas stockings? Watch the website for details, and we will be having workshops based on the book later in October and November!

3 Recent Events Hugs for Heads Our hat collection for Hugs for Heads continues to grow! At last count there were over 100 (Miss Catherine will have many more by the time you read this!) and we will continue to be a collection location for them. All sizes are welcome and you may use any non-animal fiber yarn to make one. We have patterns for both knit and crochet versions too! The Longest Day 2014 Update June 14 through June 21 We had such a wonderful time knitting with everyone on the Longest Day! We are very happy to report that we exceeded our goal and raised over $2,600 for the Alzheimer's Association! In the course of the day, we collectively knit many squares to be sewn into lap blankets, worked on hats for Hugs for Heads, started (and even finished) shawls and socks, and even created three new knitters. Thank you to all who participated! Leanaí and Volo patterns are still available in the shop. On The Longest Day, teams around the world come together to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer's with a day of activity. Held on the summer solstice, June 21, from sun up to sun down, this event calls participants to raise funds and awareness to advance the efforts of the Alzheimer's Association to accelerate research across the globe, provide care and support to those in need and advocate for the needs and rights of those facing Alzheimer's. Please save the date and plan to join us next year!

6 Class Registration and Materials To register for a class, stop by the shop in person or call Please be sure to register early, as most classes have limited space! If a class does not meet its minimum requirement 5 days prior to the start of class, we will cancel it. Class fees must be paid in advance to reserve your spot, and are nonrefundable unless we cancel the class. Remember, if you have one of our VIP Customer Cards, you will earn double points towards your rewards coupons on class registration fees! We are now offering a 10% discount on the purchase of all required class materials. We strongly encourage our students to use the materials suggested by our teachers as your satisfaction with the class depends greatly on the quality of the materials used. Come learn techniques to make your finishing as polished and professional as your knitting. Please bring your current needs-to-be-finished project as well as 2 bath sized towels! This series of knitting classes would go from finding your pattern, sizing, and yarn choice through pattern reading, seaming up and blocking. Class size will be kept small so everyone gets individualized attention Finding and Fixing Mistakes Saturday 10/21 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $25 tuition We'll admit it, we love to help people! But sometimes, things happen and you can't come in. Or you just want to keep going, rather than sitting those socks aside. Marcia will help you identify common knitting mistakes and fix them, no matter your skill or experience level! Getting Started Knitting Socks Tuesday 9/23 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm second session to be arranged at first class Fee: $35 tuition Ann Budd s Getting Started Knitting Socks will be used and is strongly recommended for purchase Ready to knit socks? Then this class is perfect for you! Using Ann Budd's Getting Started Knitting Socks as a reference, you will have a completed pair in no time! Both Magic Loop and DPN techniques can be used. Yardage and needle size will depend on desired size and yarn chosen. Both can be determined the first class session.

8 Top Down Socks Saturday 10/4 from 10:00am - 12:00pm second session to be arranged at first class Fee: $35 tuition Have you tried toe up socks and want to make cuff down ones? Or you've made a single pair of vanilla socks and want to branch out a bit? Sock knitting is perfectly portable and allows you to do all kinds of stitch patterns! It's also rather addictive and this will help you well on your way! If you are currently working with DPNs and want to try Magic Loop, this would be a perfect way to do so! Toe Up Socks Tuesday 11/11 & 11/25 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $35 tuition Did you get a great skein of vacation sock yarn? Toe-up socks are a great way to knit socks when you want to use up every last bit of your yarn: divide your ball in half, start at the toe, and knit until you run out! Come learn how to make toe-up socks using two circulars or magic loop. Students should be comfortable knitting and purling, prior experience knitting in the round would be helpful. Willamette Socks Saturday 11/1. 11/15 & 11/29 from 10:00am - 12:00pm Fee: $45 tuition. Pattern cost to be determined In case you've not seen them yet, Willamette socks are in the new Annetarsia Knits book (and if you have, here's your chance!) Intarsia in the round is an exciting take on adding colorwork to your socks without creating a double layer. In order to make the most of this class, you should be comfortable knitting socks. Crescent Shawl Design Tuesday 11/11 & 12/9 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $35 tuition They re so popular because they re so easy to wear! If you ve always wanted to try your hand at knitting one of these, this is the class for you. Choose your own pattern... or design your own! Material selection can be done the first session, bring a range of needle sizes. You should be comfortable knitting and purling. Skills taught include basic lace stitches, chart reading and blocking. The Emperor s New Scarf Tuesday 9/16 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $25 tuition, pattern cost approximately $7.00 Looking for a different scarf this winter? The Emperor's New Scarf by Lucy Neatby may very well be it! Knitting meets just a little bit of crochet to create a lacy, air filled scarf with no yarn overs and no binding off! You should be comfortable knitting and purling. Crochet experience is not necessary. Skills taught include a crochet cast on, using waste yarn, reading a chart (if desired) and crochet chain stitch. We will be making the swatch, using waste yarn for holes and then crocheting around the holes during this class. Additional time available during drop in sessions if wanted.

9 Baby Surprise Jacket Tuesday 11/18 & 12/16 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $35 tuition plus pattern cost Surprise! It s a baby jacket that is. Part origami, part knitting, this pattern uses only the knit stitch and strategically placed increases and decreases to create a wavy rectangle of fabric which folds up into an adorable baby sweater. Yarn yardage changes depending on yarn weight and size desired. Materials can be chosen the first night of class. Needle size will be determined then as well. If you would rather make the adult version, that is possible. Third class will be determined on an individual basis Holiday Baby Hats Two different sessions: Saturday 11/15 from 10am 12:00pm Saturday 12/13 from 10am 12:00pm Fee: $25 for each session Babies have a way of being born on holidays... Christmas, Valentine's Day and Easter, just to name a few. Not much is cuter than a baby in a hat with a heart (or tree, stocking, egg) on it. Learn how to use Annetarsia (intarsia in the round techniques) to take your hats from "that's really cute" to "that's the cutest thing ever. Hitofude Lace Sweater Instructors: Deb Jaworowicz Van Black-Winhaber Tuesday 10/14 & 10/28 from 7:00pm - 9:00pm Fee: $35 tuition, pattern cost approximately $2.00 The gorgeous Hitofude sweater spent a good bit of the summer on Ravelry's Top 20 list and it's easy to see why. The lace pattern is easily memorized and suitable for the knitter who wants to improve lace skills, but the unique construction will keep even an experienced lace knitter interested. You should be comfortable knitting, purling and have some experience knitting lace. Skills taught include gauge, substituting yarns, chart reading, 3 needle bind off and blocking. Pattern can be purchased at the beginning of class. Basic Annetarsia Bag Instructors: Deb Jaworowicz (11/1) Marcia Weinert (11/8) Saturday 11/1 & 11/8 from 10:00am - 12:00pm Fee: $35 tuition Imagine being able to have different colored spiraling stripes without a double layered fabric, or being able to put a heart right on to the front of your granddaughter's new sweater. New intarsia techniques will help you do just that! Garter stitch, stockinette stitch and in-the-round techniques will be introduced while making a felted bag. Deb will teach the garter and stockinette portions of the bag, and Marcia will do the second session, which is intarsia in the round.

10 Crochet Classes Learn to Crochet Instructor: Patti Tyler Saturdays from 2:00pm 4:00pm Fee: $10 per session / $45 for 5 session punch card Join Patti and learn to crochet! Single, double and triple crochet are taught, as well as reading from crochet charts. Patti will help you choose an easy, fun project to practice your new skills. Come as your schedule permits during that time period, no advance registration required. Drop-In Crochet Instructor: Patti Tyler 2 nd and 4 th Tuesday of the month Saturdays from 12:00pm 2:00pm Fee: $10 per session / $45 for 5 session punch card If you ve never picked up a hook, or are stuck on a crochet project and don t quite know what to do, this drop-in class is perfect for you! Get started on your very first crochet project or find help for an unfamiliar stitch. Come every session or just once, no need to pre-register. Beginning Tunisian Crochet Instructor Marcia Weinert Tuesday 9/30 7:00pm 9:00pm - OR - Saturday 10/11 from 2:00pm 4:00pm Fee: $25 tuition helpful but not required. Materials: worsted weight yarn and a Tunisian (afghan) crochet hook are available at the shop. Felting Classes Felting with Amy Brand Instructor: Amy Brand To Be Announced Fee: To Be Announced Amy's classes will be announced in a few weeks. There will be updates on both the shop website and Facebook. We'll keep you posted! Wet Felted Vessels Saturday 10/25 12:00pm 3:00pm Fee: $25 tuition, materials to be determined Felting is another way to play with fiber to create beautiful things! No sharp needles in this class, use water and soap instead to create a bowl, bag or vase. Please plan on wearing clothing that you won't mind getting wet and bring 2 bath sized towels! How would you like to work a fabric that's a cross between knitting and crochet that never requires turning? We'll use an extra-long hook to learn to create a base chain and work in rows that fly by, while working a small sampler and discussing other possible projects and methods for adding color. (If you have a pattern you'd like to try, please bring it along!) Prior experience with crochet or carrying yarn in the left hand is

11 Yoga Classes An Introduction to Yoga for Knitters Instructor: Genevra Petito Saturday 10/25 from 1:00pm - 1:45pm Fee: $15 tuition Gentle standing and seated yoga poses to ease achy necks, shoulders, hands and fingers so that you can keep crafting pain free. Each student will take home a hand written yoga routine specific to knitters needs. Whether you re knitting, crocheting, felting, or spinning, it s important to give your body a well-deserved tune-up and the gift of yoga! Dyeing Classes Handpainted Sock Yarn Instructor: Jennifer Vancalcar of Holiday Yarns Sunday 11/16 from 1:00pm - 4:00pm Fee: $65 tuition There are so many beautiful hand-painted sock yarns out there! Come learn how to create your own from the owner of Holiday Yarns. This is a hands-on workshop, so be sure to wear clothes that you don t mind getting wet or possibly dyed! Topics that will be covered will include color theory, techniques to create different effects such as stripes, pooling, and variegation, tools of the trade and the dyeing process. At the end of the class you will take home two skeins of (wet) sock yarn: dyed, steamed, rinsed & ready to dry and knit! Nymphalidea This project seems to be jumping on everyone's needles at the shop lately: Using a skein of Crazy Zauberball and a skein of a solid fingering weight you too could create a stunning and unique shawl! The pattern is suitable for an advanced (or adventurous) beginner and beyond - knit, purl, basic yarn over/k2tog lace, and super easy short rows (honest, they're not even wrapped!) Have you started one of these? We'd love to see your shawls in progress!

Whether you want to learn to spin one-on-one, work on plying techniques, or learn how to adjust your wheel to get the results you want, the subject of these lessons is entirely up to you! Please call to schedule. Beginning Wheel I Saturday 9/13 & 9/27 from 10:00am - 12:00pm Fee: $35 tuition plus $8 for materials Begin spinning your own yarn. Topics include: know your wheel & prepare it for spinning, drafting techniques, controlling twist, plying, yarn consistency, making skeins, washing and blocking. Bring your wheel if you have one, if not there are shop wheels available. Woolen vs Worsted Spinning Saturday 12/6 & 12/13 from 10:00am - 12:00pm Fee: $35 tuition, materials extra and to be determined at class In spinning, "woolen" doesn't refer to the fiber, and "worsted" doesn't have to do with yarn diameter! Do you wish your yarn had more loft and "cush"? Or do you want to make a super-smooth, durable yarn for socks or weaving? We'll learn how to prepare fibers for long-draw ("woolen") spinning, and how to use commercially-prepared tops to spin using the "worsted" method. Bring hand cards and combed tops with which to experiment, if you have them. Weaving Classes Intro to Rigid Heddle Weaving Instructor: Caralyn Ross Saturday 10/11, 10/25 & 11/8 from 2:00pm - 4:00pm Fee: $45 tuition plus book (if desired) Did you come home from Hemlock or Rhinebeck with a new rigid heddle loom? Been meaning to warp it or want to make an easy holiday gift but don't know where to start? Join Caralyn to learn two ways to warp, different finishing techniques and basic terminology while you make a sock yarn scarf and a Bronson check table runner. Intermediate Wheel II Saturday 11/1 & 11/15 from 12:00pm - 2:00pm Fee: $35 tuition plus materials if needed Caught in a spinning rut? Create the yarn of your dreams by learning to control three critical factors for consistency. We'll explore how to take charge of all your wheel can do for you, the spinner. As time permits, we'll play with plying for with maximum consistency as well. Bring your wheel and 3 or 4 bobbins, and a lazy kate.
