Sponsorship opportunities are available. Your business or organization could support KBT by buying an advertisement in its performance season program, sponsoring one of the company dancers for the season, or even by helping to underwrite one of KBT's productions. Supporting KBT means exploring a new market, and it's a great way to show how your business or organization is proud to invest in the local arts community. Volunteers are needed to help out with KBT's spring fundraiser, selling programs at the Sweet Sixteen basketball tournament at Rupp Arena. Volunteers are also welcome to help with planning and executing the summer fundraiser, the International Dinner. Special programs aimed at building and diversifying KBT's audience will benefit from volunteer help during the performance season. Please or contact KBT offices if interested, or for more information. 2
3 Statements & Search Criteria Statements Mission Statement KBT's mission: To provide Lexington and Central Kentucky with artistic, cultural and educational enrichment as a professional ballet company in residence through performances of original works, classical ballet, and educational programs; to provide artistic and educational outreach to Central and Eastern Kentucky communities with touring and school shows; to equip students of all backgrounds with classical dance instruction in a nurturing environment at the KBT Academy, while offering them performance opportunities with the professional company. Kentucky Ballet Theatre s artistic objective is to be true to the art form of ballet while performing both traditional and neo-classical ballets in addition to producing new works that are accessible, entertaining, and creative. Background Statement Kentucky Ballet Theatre was born almost sixteen years ago, in September of Upon the dissolution of the Lexington Ballet s professional corps in April of 1998, many of the dancers decided to form their own company. With the help of some brave Lexington citizens who formed the first Board of Directors, they opened their doors as Ballet Theatre of Lexington, and changed the name to Kentucky Ballet Theatre two years later. Since the fall of 1998, KBT has been committed to bringing quality and innovation to Lexington and Central Kentucky audiences with three or four productions yearly at the Lexington Opera House, as well as performances in other venues. KBT is also committed to original choreography, and has produced several new ballets, including Hoops, Pinocchio, Witches of Doon, Dracula, Phantom of the Opera, The Wizard of Oz, and Carmen. The Wizard of Oz was voted Best Local Theatre Production of in Ace Magazine Reader s Poll. Also in 1998, KBT began its Academy for ballet students of all ages. These students are trained by the Ballet s professional dancers, and as of last year, the Academy has grown to include 100 enrollments. The Ballet employs twelve dancers under 22-week contracts, including the Artistic Director, who enjoy health and dental insurance as well as workers compensation insurance. The Ballet s administrative staff includes an Executive Director, a part-time Office Manager, a Board of Directors consisting of fourteen hardworking people, and many dedicated volunteers. Impact Statement Kentucky Ballet Theatre is very proud of the artistic quality of its product, and has become known for bringing original family-friendly ballets to the Lexington stage, and innovative educational outreach to Central and Eastern Kentucky. In early 2013, KBT hosted an outreach program at Morehead State University for the students of Rowan, Estill and several other surrounding counties, reaching nearly 5,000 students in a performance-based outreach program. In May 2013, the company dazzled audiences with the stunning, fulllength production of The Sleeping Beauty. In October 2014, the company leadership successfully secured LM Communications as their media sponsor for the season. From the current production season ( ), Kentucky Ballet Theatre created and produced a regional premier of the oldest classical ballet, La Sulphide. Artistic Director Norbe Risco, an Al Smith Fellow for excellence in choreography, developed his own version of this Royal Danish ballet. In December 2014, Kentucky Ballet Theatre brought back another original and fan-favorite for the holiday season, The Night Before Christmas. The spring season will tell classic stories of Beauty & The Beast and Cinderella at the Lexington Opera House. Additionally, Kentucky Ballet Theatre is delighted to announce a partnership with Maker's Mark for Kentucky Bourbon & Ballet on May 9, 2015 in which they will perform a repertory concert for an outdoor evening with a bourbon dinner by celebrated chef, Jonathan Lundy. Financial goals for the season are expansion of the donor pool, nurturing existing corporate and business sponsorship, and exploring opportunities for new partnerships. Expanding KBT's mission for the season will involve continuing to grow the educational outreach program, which continues to get stronger every year, bringing fun and learning about dance and physical activity to school kids in counties throughout the region. An increased marketing and visibility initiative couples with donor development and increased regional reach. 3
4 Needs Statement KBT is very thankful for its continued support from volunteers and sponsors, but continues to need: -Donations large and small -Sponsorship of KBT's individual productions, or entire production seasons, or KBT's individual dancers -Volunteers to donate their expertise: no matter what your background, KBT could use your experience and time for many aspects of production and operation, from help with marketing and promotion, to donating an annual financial audit if qualified to do so. Service Categories Primary Organization Category Arts,Culture & Humanities / Ballet Geographic Areas Served Areas Kentucky Fayette County Kentucky Ballet Theatre performs mostly in Lexington, but has a very strong program of educational outreach that brings school shows to counties all over Central and Eastern Kentucky every year. 4
5 Impact Impact Goals Kentucky Ballet Theatre aims to increase funding and marketing reach, explore new performance venues and continue to serve its community with exceptional artists, performances and education opportunities with their academy and outreach programming. 5
