People s Bank announced today that Janet M. Hansen, executive vice president of the Aquarion Company, has been elected to the board of directors of People s Bank, effective immediately. She is chairman of the Aquarion Water Company, the principal operating division of the Aquarion Company, which provides water to four states and 53 communities comprising 675,000 customers. Hansen, who is 61, will serve on the bank s Audit and Trust Committees. A 29-year employee of the Aquarion Company (formerly The Hydraulic Company), Hansen has taken on successively more responsible positions in the company. She has served as treasurer and chief financial officer prior to becoming president and chief executive officer of the Aquarion Water Company in As a leader at Aquarion, Hansen has successfully grown the business, expanding into two new states. She has been responsible for numerous capital markets financings for Aquarion. We re delighted to welcome Janet to the board where she will contribute not only her business and financial strengths, but also her community-oriented outlook, said John A. Klein, People s chairman, chief executive officer and president. Janet brings not only extensive management and financial expertise, but also demonstrated community leadership. She will be a great asset to our board. Hansen s personal achievements include: first recipient of the Trumbull Chamber of Commerce Business Person of the Year; the University of Connecticut School of Business Hall of Fame and Financial Executive of the Year by the Institute of Management Accountants. She serves on the Bridgeport Hospital board of directors, the Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation board, was co-chair of the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County from 2002 to 2003 and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Connecticut Business and Industry Association. A graduate of Salem State College, Hansen received her MBA in Finance from the University of Connecticut. She also attended the Advanced Management Program/International Senior Management Program at Harvard University. Hansen resides in Trumbull with her husband Leo.
