5 BLADE TECHNOLOGY BYPASS: For cutting ive and green wood Bypass secateurs and oppers are used for cuts on iving pants, where the impact of the cut has to be as sma as possibe. The bypass cutting head owes its name to the fact that the cutting bade passes-by the counterbade in a scissor action. Bahco bypass secateurs sice through the wood requiring ess force than a straight cut, causing ess compression damage to the wood. ANVIL: For cutting mature and dry wood Anvi secateurs and oppers are used where ceaniness of cut is not as important. The bade of the cutting head is narrower and sharper than that of the bypass. When cutting mature and dry wood, the bade needs to be forced through the wood with greater pressure. The anvi supports the branch and spreads the pressure to reduce damage. BYPASS ANVIL As with the bade, the counterbade aso presses into the wood. As the narrow bade is forced through the wood. The waste wood may be damaged. But the cut itsef is cean and fat. 6 BLADE TECHNOLOGY THE GRINDING EDGE Four separate grinding operations are performed (Drawing A) 1. Main beve, the cutting area of the bade is tapered to a point 2. Cavity, a shaow hoow is 1 ground into the inner face of the bade 3 3. Second beve, the edge is poished to a razor sharp point 4. This reduces friction and the risk of sticking, and increases performance B SLICING CUT How it works The sharp upward curve of the bade causes the eading edge to sice as it cuts into the wood The off-centered pivot bot doubes this sicing motion increasing the ength of the bade used for cutting Why it works Imagine cutting a oaf of bread. No matter how sharp your bade, if you attempt to cut without sicing, the bread is compressed and becomes harder to cut, requiring more pressure, damaging the oaf. 14 PRUNING SAWS SAW TEETH PERFORM THREE FUNCTIONS Cutting Teeth tips act ike sma knives that cut through the wood fibres. Ony 0,2 (0.008 inch) of a tooth is used for this function, which is done by the sharp ground tip. Separating Teeth edges are chises that shave wood from between the cuts. Cearing Guets coect saw dust to deposit it outside the kerf. For this an open and smooth ground surface is needed in the guet. TOOTH DESIGN HardPoint Teeth are heat-treated after grinding. Hardened teeth remain sharp four times onger but cannot be re-sharpened with a fie.
