3 SAFETY FIRST 1.) Switch off power to saw before making any adjustments. 2.) Eye protection must be worn at all times. 3.) Hearing protection must be used. 4.) Keep hands clear of moving blade. 5.) 4 CM SPIDA SAW OVERVIEW The CM SPIDA SAW is a fully manual machine for fast and effective truss and component cutting at angles from 10 to 170. Provision is also available for cutting mitres and varying the depth of cut Machines may differ from illustration shown 3

6 CM SPIDA SAW INSTALLATION STEP 1 STEP 2 STEP 3 STEP 4 STEP 5 Locate the saw in the required position, preferably parallel to a wall and approximately 39 out from the base of the wal. Locate outfeed table (Optional extra) on appropriate side (left or right outfeed is available) and loosely bolt together. Level the saw across the bench top using the jacking bolts on each corner of the base, use 5 mm (¼ ) steel under the jacking bolts. Pack any gaps at the four bolt down positions, then proceed to drill holes and bolt the saw into position NOTE Make sure the saw tabletop is kept level when bolting to the floor. Set outfeed table (Optional extra) to the correct height and level. This is done by loosening the nuts on the feet of the outfeed table, then tightening at the correct height. By using a straight edge or a string line, Align the outfeed fence line with the fence line on the saw. Once the outfeed table is true and level, tighten the two bolts holding the outfeed table to the saw, then bolt the outfeed to the Floor. System Requirements 220 Volt 3 Phase 20 amp power supply to starter (Starter must be mounted separate to machine, i.e. on wall) Clean air supply 65/85 psi direct into regulator (min 3/8 bore hose) 5

7 SETTING THE RADIAL ANGLE CM SPIDA SAW OPERATION The radial angle of the cut can be set by releasing the pneumatic brake locking the saw in position, and turning the radial plate to set the desired angle. The pneumatic brake switch is located to the right front of the saw frame. Lifting the switch locks the saw in position Pushing the switch down releases the brake CAUTION DO NOT START THE SAW OR MAKE A CUT WHEN THE BRAKE IS RELEASED When the brake is released, the angle can be set by gripping the handrail under the scale plate and rotating the scale in the desired direction. NOTE: Make sure the brake is locked after altering angle 6

8 ADJUSTING THE DEPTH OF CUT CM SPIDA SAW OPERATION The depth of cut can be altered by loosening the black locking lever (Quick Clamp). Turning the hand wheel clockwise will raise the blade. Turning the hand wheel counter clockwise will lower the blade. NOTE: NOTE: The locking clamp should be securely tightened after all adjustments are made. The threaded rod on the height adjustment shaft needs to be lubricated to prevent pitting and to make sure it remains easy to use. 7

9 CM SPIDA SAW OPERATION MITRE CUTS The saw blade can be tilted over to the right only up to 45 This is done by loosening the Quick Clamp located behind the motor assembly, then tilting to the required angle. (45 max) NOTE Opening of the dust extraction chute door is required when making mitre cuts to allow clearance for the blade. To open the dust chute turn off all power to saw and unclip the latch located at the right rear of the dust chute door and open downward CAUTION When not cutting mitres the dust chute door should be securely closed 8

10 TESTING THE CUT ACCURACY CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE To obtain the optimum cutting accuracy it is necessary to check that both the blade line of travel and the front face of the fence are directly over the centre of rotation To check this, perform the following: 1.) Check that the blade is square to the fence and in a vertical plane (90 ). 2.) Place an off cut of timber on the table ensuring it is against the fence (clamp if desired). 3.) With the radial degree setting at 90 cut the timber part way through. 4.) Without moving the timber reset the angle to 45 to the left and make a second cut part way through. 5.) Reset the angle to 45 to the right and make a third cut part way through. 6.) Check the alignment of the outfeed side of the cuts. The points of intersection should all NOTE be at the same point at the rear face of the timber. Saws with right hand outfeed, check right side of saw cut. Saws with left hand outfeed, check left side of saw cut 7.) If the point of intersection is not at the same point on all the cuts, adjustment can be NOTE made at the arm assembly mounting plate. Loosen the four cap screws on the rear mounting plate where the arm assembly mounts to the pivot arm column, the holes are slotted for adjustment. If the intersection point is to the left adjust the arm assembly to the left If the intersection point is to the right adjust the arm assembly to the right 8.) Only make minor adjustments at a time, and make sure cap screws are tightened before rechecking. (65 ft/lb) Blade is always on the right of the black line Shows a saw set up for LeftHand Outfeed 9

11 CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE ADJUSTING THE SAW HEIGHT ADJUSTMENT SLIDES After a settling in period, if some movement is apparent in the motor assembly group height adjustment slides. 1. Loosen the four (4) holding bolts on the right side of the slide block 2. Loosen the locking nuts on the two (2) adjusting bolts. 3. Wind in the adjusting bolts enough to remove excessive clearance only 4. Tighten the four (4) holding bolts on the right side of the slide block. 5. Tighten the lock nuts on the two (2) adjusting bolts. NOTE do not over tighten the four (4) holding bolts as this could cause the slide to become deformed. 10

12 CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE ADJUSTING OF THE ELBOW JOINTS The two (2) taper roller bearings fitted in each elbow joint are pre-set at manufacture and should not be adjusted unless absolutely necessary. If any adjustment is required care must be taken or damage to the bearings can occur. 1. Loosen the cap screw on the nut side of the elbow joint. 2. Release the tab washer behind the nut. 3. Tighten the pre-load by turning the nut clockwise. CAUTION When tightening pre-load nut do not exceed 25 ft/lb 4. Relocate tab washer 5. Tighten cap screw on nut side of elbow joint. NOTE to ensure a straight line is cut when cutting, make sure that the cap screws on each side of the elbow joint are tight at all times Check that arm is central in joint Cap Screw Tab Washer Elbow Nut 11

13 CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE GREASING THE STROKE LIMITER ASSEMBLY To Aid in the smooth operation of the arm action it is necessary to grease the stroke limiter shaft. To do this, follow the steps below. 1.) Remove the split pin & washer from the left-hand side of the vertical arm. 2.) Pull out the Stoke Limiter Assembly from the right-hand side of the vertical arm. 3.) Grease the shaft & pin with General purpose grease 4.) Replace the Stroke Limiter Assembly 5.) Replace the washer and Insert the split pin into the Stoke limiter Assembly 12

14 CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE PNEUMATIC BRAKE Due to the nature of some compressed air units the pneumatic brake unit and airlines can get water in them, because of this it may be necessary to dismantle the brake and clean it out. To do this follow the steps below. 1.) Remove the air hose & undo the nuts underneath the brake mount plate then remove the brake from the saw. CAUTION: Make sure the air supply is disconnected from the main regulator. 2.) Remove Air Fittings and Pull the brake unit in two 3.) Pull both brake pads off and clean out both the top and bottom bore. Check for pitting on the piston and thec ondi t i onoft heo Ri ng. Reverse the process to re-assemble. 13

15 CM SPIDA SAW MAINTENANCE MOTOR BRAKE The magnetic friction brake can be adjusted by setting the correct clearance between the friction plate and the coil using the cap screw located in the centre of the brake shaft. NOTE for the brake to function efficiently, the gap between the brake pad and plate should be set between 8-10 thou, approximately 5/8th of a turn. 14

16 CM SPIDA SAW SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE MAINTENANCE IS REQUIRED TO ALLOW THE SAW TO RUN AT ITS MAIMUM EFFICIENCY.
