2 Welcome to the October 2010 Digital Scrapper Premier! We certainly live in a technological world, don t we? We check the weather on Yahoo. We look at our iphone to see which roads are slow before we head out into traffic. We turn to Google for a new recipe for dinner. And what would we do without our computers for scrapbooking? For me, the thought of ever going back to paper and scissors for routine scrapbooking is absurd. Since everyone in our family depends so much on the computer, it s a BIG deal when one of us gets a new one. Usually it s someone else who s getting a new computer, but this week it was my turn to be the envy of all the others. I got a 27 imac that will run both Mac and Windows so I can get my video training recorded more easily. It came with a wireless keyboard and a wireless mouse that looks like it came off the Star Trek Enterprise. In fact, it s a track pad as well as a mouse! As you know, however, you can have all the equipment in the world, and if you don t USE it to get your scrapbooking done, what good does it do? So... by this time next month I hope to be able to announce that I have the first module of my new training for Photoshop CS5 and Photoshop Elements 9 done, AND I hope to have a new stack of digital scrapbook pages done as well. Will you join me in making this one of the most productive months of your scrapbooking career ever? Try Out Some New Techniques While you re creating all those wonderful pages this month, try out some of the great techniques shared with us by Susie Roberts. She ll show you how to make fun pockets for your journaling and a darling pop up frame. In her design video, Susie will show you how to make Photoshop or Elements help you put your page together faster and more accurately. Before you put your photos on the page, check to see if there s any glasses glare. If so, Jan Walker s tutorial on how to fix glasses glare will come in very handy! My top pick this month is a bright and fun digi-page by jmljensen that celebrates her young son s first birthday. I loved the grouping of these sweet photos, with just the right amount of embellishments tucked behind and scattered around the pictures. Her use of the circular frames is a perfect contrast to the straight lines in the design as well as the title. Plenty of white space draws even more attention to her photos, which just make me smile! Thanks to jmljensen and our other top picks for some fun layouts this month. Top Pick Page by jmljensen I m finally getting caught up on my son s 1st year scrapbook with this great kit. I used the tutorials for making the beads along with enhancing the photos. I also used the techniques from the bead lessons to bevel the frames. 7 Getting to know... Krystal Hartley I discovered scrapbooking in 1996 when my daughter was an infant. My husband humored my obsession with pretty patterned paper and fun new tools for about a decade before I got hooked on digiscrapping. It didn t take me long to try my hand at designing, and I ve been selling my digital scrap kits since October I find inspiration in every thing and place around me, but I especially love all things shabby. I live with my husband and two children just outside of Dallas, TX. 14 Extra Tidbits Wavy Stitching by Susie Roberts Here s a quick and easy way to bend a piece of straight stitching. Step 1 - Click here to download the stitching. Step 2 - Drag it onto your scrapbook page. Step 3 - Press Ctrl T (Mac: Cmd T) to get a Transform Outline. Right Click (Mac: Ctrl Click) and choose 90 CW. Double click inside the outline to accept it. (Elements: In the Menu Bar choose, Image > Rotate > Layer 90 Right.) The stitching should now be vertical on your page. Step 4 - Get the Rectangular Marquee tool. In the Options bar choose, New Selection and click and drag out a selection approximately ¾ inch wide by 2 inches long over a section of the stitching at the top. Make sure the selection does not cut through the middle of a stitch. Step 5 - In the Menu bar choose, Filter > Distort > Shear. Click Wrap Around and drag the middle handle on the straight line to the left by half a grid-space (or more if a greater bend is desired). Click Okay. That section of the stitching will now bend to the left. Step 6 - Drag the selection down to the next section of stitching and repeat step 5 but bend the line to the right. Step 7 - Continue repeating steps 4 through 6 until you reach the end of the stitching. Step 8 - Rotate the stitching back if desired or cut small pieces off to use as messy stitching on photos or accents. You can also vary the size of the selection or the bend of the distortion.
