2 October Videos Welcome to the October 2011 Digital Scrapper Premier! You ve heard the saying: If at first you don t succeed, try, try again. I experienced that this week. I tried something new real rock climbing, not just bouldering, where you go along a wall a few feet off the ground. I took a lesson at the rock gym on Saturday, and in less than a week, I made it to the top of my first climb at Smith Rocks. Woo hoo! What I didn t tell you, though, is that I failed the first time I tried. Man, it was tough! I really tried, but I just couldn t get past a tricky point in the climb, so I finally asked to be lowered down. The rest of the family (all of whom are much more experienced than I) went next, one at a time, and I watched as they demonstrated what to do and gave me tips. Then it was my turn again. I got to the tricky spot and got stuck. I got so tired I had to rest on the rope. Then I mustered up every ounce of energy I had and went for it and made it! Yay! Do you ever feel that way when you re trying to master a new digital scrapbooking skill? The result you want can seem so elusive, so you watch others do it and pay attention to the details and read the manual, and then, finally, you have a breakthrough! We have a great lineup of videos for you this month! Jan Walker will show you how to make a really fun photo booth strip. (I was in my teens when I had my picture taken at a photo booth, so Jan s tutorial was a trip down memory lane for me!) Christina Rambo will show you how to create one-of-a-kind frames that look great with your photos! Jen White will show you how to make an grungy type overlay using elements from a kit. And finally, Susie Roberts will demonstrate how to create a layout where your photos truly take center stage. Enjoy the videos and kit and templates this month, and I hope to see your pages in the October Premier gallery! Love and scrapbooking success, Our Premier instructors have traveled the same road you have, and they are here to show you new techniques and tips on how to move ahead, so if at first you don t succeed, try, try again. It s worth it!

3 Top Picks Alphabet Soup - September 2011 I enjoyed seeing your wonderful pages during the month of September! I was especially drawn to the page by kschro4545 with its beautiful blending for the background including a couple of spirographs, so I ve selected it as my Top Pick for September. I also like the way the photo edge on the larger photo makes it stand out, and the cluster of other photos rounds out the page nicely. Beautiful work kschro4545! Top Pick Layout by kschro4545 Wow...starting a new project - doing the 21 Missions in California...means more trips up the coast! YIPPEE!! Loved Jen s tutorial on the spirographs. I made a couple but didn t know where to use them, so I tried them here... blended and opacity reduced. Paper is a blending of textures from Kim Klassen; frame is mine -- lessons - spirographs - Jen White; grid/template - Linda Sattgast -- Fonts -traveling typewriter am02 April bichonmom Congratulations to the other top picks, pictured here in alphabetical order. 5 Getting to know our designer... Amanda Taylor TaylorMade Designs I started paper scrapbooking in January By July 2006, I was over the mess and rubbing my hands together to go digital. I bought a laptop, a copy of Photoshop Elements 4, and soon after a Nikon D60. I was hooked immediately. By July 2007 I was designing and landed my first (and only) designer gig at Oscraps. I still design exclusively at Oscraps to this day. Born and raised in Memphis, TN, I swore by age 21 I would be on the first thing smoking to California or Florida or just somewhere with a beach and a warm breeze to start my life. However, 3 months before my best friend and I had set the date for our departure, I met Will. I was head over heels before I knew it and decided I wanted my life to start where ever he was. So obviously, I stayed. It wasn t long before we were married and having a baby. We now have 2 children and celebrated our 10 year anniversary in August... in Memphis, of course. I ve had various jobs over the years... ranging from data entry to interior design. Nothing ever truly clicked or came naturally to me. I was beginning to think I was destined to spend my life in a cubicle... that is until I discovered digital designing. I never dreamed in a million years that one day I would own my own company doing what I was good at and what I loved. There s absolutely nothing in this world like spending your days doing exactly what you love and making a living at it! I consider myself to be a fairly simple person. I don t wear diamonds or hairspray. I m most comfortable in jeans and flip-flops, although a fabulous pair of heels to dress it up every now and then just makes me happy. I like a lot of things that most girls don t... shooting pool, reptiles and such, however at heart I am definitely very girly. Shy, sensitive, and super sappy. I wear my heart on my sleeve and have this overwhelming need to put my feelings into words. So in a sense, scrapbooking has filled a void in my life and has allowed me to express myself in a way that keeps me sane. No matter what I m going through in life, I am always walking around with a visual of a scrapbook page in my head to document every feeling I m having. I don t own a journal... I own Photoshop. It just makes life easier. Click here to find more beautiful kits and other digital products by Amanda, available at Oscraps. Read more about Amanda on her blog here.

14 Extra Tidbit A Picture is Worth a Thousand Words by Jen White Some photos simply speak for themselves. So why not combine the two elements journaling and photographs - into one very powerful element. Here s the technique I used to create a picture bubble on my scrapbook page. Step 1: Open Element Open the talkbubble1 element from this month s Premier kit, All About Me by Amanda Taylor. Duplicate (Image > Duplicate) the file and close the original. Step 4: Open a Photo Open (File > Open) a photo that would fit appropriately inside the talk bubble. Duplicate the photo and close the original. Resize the photo (Image > Image Size) to 3.0 inches wide at 300 ppi. Press Ctrl A (Mac: Cmd A) to Select All. Press Ctrl C (Mac: Cmd C) to Copy the selection to your computers clipboard. Step 5: Paste Photo Into Bubble Return to the talk bubble file. Paste the photo into the selection: Photoshop: Edit > Paste Special > Paste Into Elements: Edit > Paste Into Selection Step 6: Resize and Reposition if Necessary Step 2: Create Selection Outline Ctrl click (Mac: Cmd click) on the thumbnail of the talk bubble to get a selection outline around it. In the Menu Bar, choose Select > Modify > Contract. Press Ctrl T (Mac: Cmd T) to get the Transform options. Holding down the Shift key to maintain proportions, click on a Bounding Box handle and drag outward until the photo fills the area as desired. To reposition the photo: On the document, click on the photo and drag to reposition. Double click inside the bounding box to commit the changes. In the dialog box, enter 15 and click OK. Step 7: Create a Merge Layer Step 3: Create a Photo Mask Press Shift Ctrl Alt E (Mac: Shift Cmd Opt E) to create a merged layer at the top of the Layers panel. In the Layers panel, click on the Add a New Layer icon. Press Ctrl Backspace (Mac: Cmd Delete) to fill the selection with the background Color Chip. In the Layers panel, click on the merged layer and drag it onto your scrapbook page.
