1 Premier September 2011 Take me to the Premier members area
2 Welcome to the September 2011 Digital Scrapper Premier! Last month I created over 30 scrapbook pages of a trip to Europe that our family took in Whoo Hoo! Believe me, creating this many pages in a short span of time doesn t happen very often, and I usually have an incentive to get me going such as a deadline for a gift I m making, or a graduation approaching, or a product I m working on. In this case, it was the latter, so you ll be seeing the pages pretty soon. However, I thought I d put one page here as a sneak peek! Have you noticed that it takes about as long to get ready to scrapbook as it does to actually create a page? You have to get out your photos, select the ones you want to scrap, edit the photos, decide which ones go on each page, and THEN create the scrapbook page! But, oh, the thrill of getting an event scrapped that is a great family memory! There s just nothing like it, and maybe that s why we were all attracted to this wonderful hobby in the first place! This Month s Videos Jan Walker will teach you a better way to get great looking black and white photos. In Paper Flower, Veronica Spriggs will teach you how to create a decorative flower element using two papers from any kit, plus she has several layer styles that will add fun effects to the flower. Jen White brings us two nostalgic videos. In Tucked In, she shows us how to create the effect of a photo being tucked into slits on the page of an old fashioned photo album. In Spirographs, Jen will teach you how to create the coolest spirograph elements. You re going to love the fun designs that appear almost magically just like the spirograph machines of old! We also have a darling ABC kit for you this month and a great set of templates, so have fun with all the Premier goodies! Love and scrapbooking success, To help you be even more creative this month, I m happy to introduce a super lineup of video tutorials by our illustrious instructors:
3 Top Picks Off We Go Premier Kit - August 2011 I hope you ve had a chance to look through the August Premier Gallery to enjoy the beautiful pages made with the August kit, Off We Go by Susan Bartolini. I chose Make Time To Run by g_scrapper as my Top Pick. The image made of words is riveting on the gray background, and even the banner is shades of gray. I thought g_scrapper did an excellent job of making the words appear like art, with different sizes, shapes, and shades to make the runner appear real, and the message, of course is timeless: Make time to run. Congratulations, g_scrapper, for such a creative page! Top Pick Layout by g_scrapper My son is an avid distance runner. He ran his first 1/2 marathon at 13 and can t wait until he s old enough to do an ultra-marathon. One key to his success - making time to run no matter what is going on in his life, no matter the weather, no matter how he s been performing in races. I did this layout to capture his dedication to his sport. The bonus is that this is a truly different running layout. Believe me, after 6 years of photographing cross country, track, and fun runs, it s a marvel to find a new way to scrapbook my kid running. janine kschro4545 Loretta MissouriStar shorebirds ylemons Congratulations to the other top picks, pictured here in alphabetical order. 5 Getting to know our designer... Christine Mortimer Digilicious Designs I am married and the proud mum to two gorgeous young boys who keep me very busy! We live in Brisbane, Australia, and have recently added a playful little kitten to our family. I am a very keen amateur photographer and have purchased my first DSLR (Canon EOS 7D) a few months ago. I take hundreds of photos, mostly of my boys, but I also love Macro Photography. I plan on joining a camera club in the near future, when I m a bit more confident! I have been scrapbooking the traditional way (paper) for about 8 years, although I ve probably been doing it in one form or another all my life. My design style is very much influenced by this. I have been using Photoshop for years and made the leap into digital scrapbooking in I currently use PSCS5 and Adobe Illustrator for my scrapping and designing. I love the Pen tool, and I just don t know how I managed before I discovered it! I also love my Bamboo Tablet. I still enjoy both forms of scrapbooking and experiment with the hybrid style occasionally. However, most of my time is devoted to digital these days, which includes managing my Creative Team, Blog, Store, and visiting my favorite sites and forums. I am unashamedly and hopelessly addicted to scrapbooking, and particularly digital scrapbooking. I have just completed the Amazing Digital Scrap Race 2011 and love the layouts I completed! Digitally, I will continue striving to improve my skills and create unique products that help fellow digi-scrappers showcase their special moments and memories. The possibilities are endless, and the results are priceless. Page: Jen White Photos: Jen White Kit: Alphabet Soup by Digilicious Font: Vani Love the look of heritage scrapbooks? 14 Actions for Photoshop Elements In Jen White s tutorial, Spinning Spirographs for Photoshop, she teaches how to create an action that instantly creates a spirograph once you create the first 15 spoke. You can t create actions with Photoshop Elements, but you can use actions, so we ve included a spirograph action for Photoshop Elements versions 6 and above. (Actions can be used in earlier versions, but since we only support the last four versions, you ll need to do your own research on the web for how to install them.) You ll find the spirograph action folder inside the tutorial folder for Spinning Spirographs. Once you install the spirograph action using the included instructions, you ll be able to create the first spoke of the spirograph wheel, and then simply double click on this icon to apply the action:
15 Extra Tidbit Chipboard Titles by Jen White A great title will take a scrapbook page from good to gorgeous. With a small piece of craft paper and a good combination of effects, you can be on your way to gorgeous with the look of chipboard letters. Here s the technique I used to create the titles in the Alphabet Soup quick album. Step 1: Open Your Document If you already have a page for your title, open it open it (File > Open). Step 4: Clip the Element to the Type In the Menu Bar, choose Layer > Create Clipping Mask. Note: In Elements 8.0 and earlier, choose Layer > Group With Previous. If the craft paper of the element does not completely cover the title, or if stitching shows, enlarge the element. To do this: Press Ctrl T (Mac: Cmd T) to get the Transform options. In Photoshop Elements hold down Alt (Mac: Opt), click on a corner handle of the bounding box, and drag outward until the title is completely covered by craft paper without ribbon or stitching. In Photoshop press Alt Shift (Mac: Opt Shift) as you drag from a corner handle. Double click inside the Bounding Box to commit the changes. If you don t, create a new 4x12 inch document at 300 ppi with a white background. Photoshop Elements: File > New > Blank File Photoshop: File > New Step 2: Create a Title Get the Type tool. In the Options Bar, open the Font Picker and choose a font. The Style should be Regular, and the Size should be 125 points. I used 785 points for the long titles. Step 5: Add an Effect In the Layers panel, activate the type layer by clicking on it. In Photoshop, choose Layer > Layer Style. Inner Shadow settings: Multiply 40% Opacity, Distance 6 px, Size 6 px. Drop Shadow settings: Multiply 60% Opacity, Distance 5 px, Size 9 px. Click on your scrapbook page and type out your title. Step 3: Open an Element Open note01-74-abc from this month s premier kit, Alphabet Soup (File > Open). Get the Move tool. Holding down the Shift key, click on the element and drag it onto your document or scrapbook page. In Photoshop Elements, choose Layer > Layer Style > Style Settings. (If this is grayed out in your version, double click on a drop shadow icon in the Layer Style section of the Effects panel, and double click on the fx icon that appears on the layer to adjust the settings.) Drop Shadow: Size 10 px, Distance 1 px, Opacity 60% Bevel: Size 6 px, Direction Down Close the original element file. On the document/scrapbook page, click on the element and move it above the title you created. The image shows where the title is hidden under the element.
