Welcome to the April 2011 Digital Scrapper Premier! I should be able to come up with a really good April Fools idea that would have you gasping or groaning, only for me to say, April Fools!

2 Welcome to the April 2011 Digital Scrapper Premier! I should be able to come up with a really good April Fools idea that would have you gasping or groaning, only for me to say, April Fools! But I ve never been good at that sort of thing. I am, however, gullible if someone uses that trick on me. I ll never forget my son at about four years of age saying, Mom! I put ketchup up my nose! I gasped and leaped into action, only to be told, April Fools! Caught by a kid. How embarrassing! So you ve gotta know that what I m saying is no April Fools we have a great Premier issue for you this month! (With a theme like Family Reunion, how could we not?) First of all, we have a great kit for you by the very talented Lauren Grier. I know you re going to love it! Jen White and Jenny Jorgensen have made the most adorable album with the kit, which I m especially excited about because it features photos from my very own family reunion last summer. Yes, you get to see the renegade family I grew up with and love so much. Wait till you see my sister s T-Shirt surprise! Then there are the tutorials: Jan Walker is in her normal high state of hoorah (a family saying) with a great video on how to make modern day photos look like they were shot in the days when I was growing up. You ll have to watch the video to see how long ago that was. Susie Roberts has two amazing videos. The first one is on making overlays and brushes, and she really gives you all kinds of great ideas for creating them! Her second video is just adorable with file folders and pockets. And finally, Jen White will show you how to create a really fun silhouette title that blends in beautifully with a craft paper background! So here s to a great scrapbooking month in April! 3 Top Picks - March 2011 Escape to Nature Premier Kit There were SO many amazing pages in the Premier gallery this month, and so many beautiful reflection pages! I loved them all and wanted to feature them all, but alas! I had to choose only one for my Top Pick. I chose Faded Memories by kschro4545 for several reasons. I loved the perspective of the pier in the photo leading you away. The curved photo grid and reflection are flawless. There was even a reflection for the type along the right side. I love that kind of attention to detail! I also liked the tab in the upper, left corner and the stitching around the outside. The collection of overlapping photos gives it a timeless feel, like we re look at photos of the past. And finally, the title is pure word art so beautiful! 5 Getting to know... Lauren Grier Hi. My name is Lauren Grier. I ve been designing for a little over five years now. I had no prior scrapbooking experience before diving head first into the digital world. The ever popular Miss Shabby Princess caught my eye and perked my interests. Next thing I knew I was designing and selling at my first digital shop! I landed the dream gig, only six months into designing (total newbie!) at the ever amazing Sweet Shoppe Designs. A year ago, I opened up my own solo store as well. I currently design using primarily Adobe Illustrator. I m a big time doodler, and Illustrator is definitely my friend. I use Photoshop Elements 5 for all other aspects of my designs. While I m not doodling away, I spend a lot of time focusing on my little household. I m a single mom to an amazing kid. He s my side kick and the greatest buddy around. We also have four pets. A cat, bunny, fish, and leopard gecko. Always something to do here! Random tidbits about me would absolutely have to include the fact that I m a major Doctor Who fan. The kiddo and I are totally into the series, past and present. Of course, we re also Star Wars fans. So if I m not having a sonic screwdriver pointed at me (Dr Who), I m being confronted with a light saber. I just hope the kiddo grows up realizing that I am actually really cool for playing along. Other than that, I m just a busy busy bee all the time, trying to stay on top of life and designing. Extra Tidbit Designer Paper Clips by Susie Roberts No matter what kit you re working with, you will always have the perfect matching paper clip. Step 1 Create a new file 2 x 2 inches at 300 dpi.

12 Extra Tidbit Designer Paper Clips by Susie Roberts No matter what kit you re working with, you will always have the perfect matching paper clip. Step 1 Create a new file 2 x 2 inches at 300 dpi. Step 2 Get the Custom Shape Tool and in the Options Bar click on the down-facing arrow to open the Shape Picker. Click on the Paper Clip shape. If it s not there click on the right-facing arrow and choose Objects from the fly-out menu. Click and drag out the paper clip shape, approximately 1 ½ inches long, while pressing the Shift key to maintain proportions. Step 3 PS: In the Menu bar choose, Layer > Rasterize Shape. EL: In the Options Bar click, Simplify. Step 4 Open a patterned paper from your chosen kit. (File > Open) Smaller patterns work better than large ones. Step 5 PS: In the Menu Bar choose, Image > Image Size. (EL: Image > Resize > Image Size) When the dialogue box opens, change the size of the paper to 2 x 2 inches. Click OK. Step 6 Drag the paper onto your paper clip file, pressing the Shift key before you let go of the mouse so that it lands in the middle. Step 7 Position your cursor between the paper clip layer and the paper layer, press the Alt key (Mac: Opt key) and click to group them together. Step 8 Press Ctrl E (Mac: Cmd E) to merge the two layers together. Step 9 Apply the Layer Style Settings of: PS: Drop Shadow 50% Opacity, Size 3 and Distance 3. Bevel & Emboss: Inner Bevel, Smooth, Depth 100%, Size 21 px, Soften 8 px. EL: Bevel Simple Inner, Size 21 px. Drop Shadow click on any of the Drop Shadow presets and change the Opacity to 50% and the Size and Distance to 3. Step 10 Click on the New Layer icon in the Layers panel and create a new blank layer above the paper clip layer. Step 11 Merge the blank layer and the paper clip layer together by pressing Ctrl E (Mac: Cmd E). This will fix the Layer Styles permanently and solve the problem of extraneous shadows when you erase part of the clip on your page.
