2 What are L.A.B.S. Camps? Impression 5 s L.A.B.S. Camps are developed with your child s curiosity in mind. Our camps offer opportunities to play, create, and challenge your child s understanding of scientific concepts through interactive projects and experiments. All age-specific camps are designed to encourage children to make fun, lasting, and meaningful connections to science. Scholarships are available for all Summer L.A.B.S. Camps. 3 SINGLE-DAY CAMPS (AGES 5-12) Ready for Launch! Monday, June 11 Make things fly in this awesome camp where you ll make confetti launchers, balloon rockets, or other creations! Investigate the science of projectiles as you challenge yourself to improve the aim, speed, and maximum distance of your creations. LEGO Builders Tuesday, June 12 Inspiration and creativity are a must for this exciting camp! Join us for a day of building, designing, and challenging the limitations of LEGO s as we invent new LEGO creations through guided challenges and open-ended play. Kinetic Art Wednesday, June 13 Push art into new dimensions in this creative camp where you ll need to draw upon art, balance, and engineering to make art that moves by human power, wind power, or gravity! Gadgets and Gizmos Thursday, June 14 From simple to technological, we ll deconstruct, explore, and create our own machines! Learn about the elements that make machines go, from motors to cranks to gears. Learn the secrets of gadgets, gizmos, and more! Build & Destroy Friday, June 15 Come build amazing structures out of LEGO s, foam blocks, toothpicks, and more, then switch to demolition mode and figure out the most efficient way to knock it down. Learn about forces and engineering in this brick-tastic camp! Sticky Science Monday, July 2 Come explore chemistry through icky, squishy experiments! From stretchy polymers to sticky concoctions, we ll unleash the hidden potential of substances all around us. Bubbles & Foam Tuesday, July 3 Pop in for bubbly, foamy fun! Discover what soap bubbles are made of, and learn about bubble symmetry. Experiment with your own colorful foaming chemical reactions. Kitchen Chemistry Thursday, July 5 Transform ordinary kitchen ingredients into amazing chemistry concoctions! Explore solutions, reactions, and more while you create edible science experiments that will wow your senses! Chemistry Arts & Crafts Friday, July 6 Discover the colors and patterns that chemical reactions can create in your art! Whether you re using chemistry to make your own art supplies or testing out invisible inks, come get inspired in this creative science camp! Race to the Finish! Monday, August 27 Learn how to race by experimenting with viscosity, friction, and even your own reflexes! Design your own tracks and test them for speed. Join us for friendly competitions in the name of science! Nature Adventure Tuesday, August 28 Observe and learn how living organisms interact to create ecosystems all around us. Examine plant and animal life along the Grand River and collect materials for science experiments and art projects back in the classroom. It s Magnetic Wednesday, August 29 Test out magnetic fields and create your own obstacle course to move a magnet through! We ll use magnets to make artwork and learn how their properties help create electronics and technologies we use every day. Disaster Strikes Thursday, August 30 Landslides, volcanoes, and tsunamis, oh my! Come learn about the science behind natural disasters and where they get their awesome power. Devise structures to withstand these massive forces and test them with simulations. 3, 2, 1, Blast Off! Friday, August 31 Find out how long it takes a spacecraft to travel to the moon and try lifting payloads on balloon rockets. Become an astronomer and create your own constellation maps! Have a blast exploring the galaxy in this stellar camp! 2

4 AGES 3-5 Let s Build it! June Become an engineer and create structures using materials like blocks, LEGO s, toothpicks, and more! Galaxy Explorers Create your own telescope to explore the constellations, then put on your astronaut gear and prepare for blast off! Dinosaur Stomp! Investigate why dinosaurs no longer roam the Earth and look for their ancestors still living today, all while stomping around your Science Center! Doc McStuffins Science Follow Doc s lead and investigate the work of real people who fix things. Step into the role of doctor, veterinarian, and mechanic to solve problems, conduct fun experiments, and more! WEEK-LONG CAMPS Amazing Art Leave the coloring books behind and come mix your own paints, design towering sculptures, and make your very own art creations! Investigate color and try out new techniques as we make beautiful art while exploring science. Fairytale Science Join us as we explore the crystal slipper that was left behind, learn about the temperature of hot, cold, and just right, and comb through the physics behind Rapunzel s long hair! Reading fairytales will never be the same as you learn the science behind how your favorite classics have come to life! On the Go! Ready Set on the go! Experiment with wheels, gears, and all moving things! Paint with cars, launch balloon rockets, and explore friction with a force and motion marble challenge. Nature Investigators The great outdoors is your classroom as we search for bugs, feed the birds, and explore the shapes and textures of leaves. We ll take regular nature walks, examine artifacts we ve collected, and create beautiful nature art. Potion Eruptions Explore chemistry through icky, sticky, and squishy experiments. From glittery crystals to stretchy slime, we ll use the power of science to unleash the hidden potential of substances all around us! Pop It! Come experience bubbles that are small and large, clear and colorful! Discover what soap bubbles are made of as we explore bubble symmetry, play with your very own bubble wand, and create take-home bubble art! AGES 5-7 Arrg! Science of Pirates It takes more than plundering and pillaging to be a pirate! Learn the science of piracy by designing seaworthy vessels, investigating maps and navigation, and studying volcanic islands. Hoist the flag and set sail for adventure, me mateys! Art Discoveries Science and art have so much in common! Investigate color and texture, make your own art supplies, and find inspiration in nature. Test new techniques and unleash your inner artist! Nature Wonders Investigate nature and explore what s living in our yards, rivers, and forests. We ll go on nature walks, conduct experiments, and make art with materials we collect along the way! Physics Fun! Physics is behind everything you experience! See how fast you can make objects move using forces and friction. We ll examine light spectrums, play with different objects to study sound waves, and experiment with static electricity! Inside Me! Through hands-on experiments, we ll discover how muscles make us move, how our lungs fill with air, and what happens to food after we put it in our mouths. Get ready for an amazing journey into the human body! Dinosaur Safari Put your paleontology skills to the test as we investigate creatures that roamed the Earth long ago. Dig for fossils, learn about dinosaurs and other prehistoric creatures, and make dinosaur tracks! We re going to dig up some serious fun! Chemistry Craze Come explore chemistry through fizzy, sticky, and squishy experiments! From gooey slime to color-changing liquids, we ll unleash the hidden potential of substances all around us with hands-on experimentation. Space Expedition Are you curious about space? Expand your knowledge and your imagination to the size of the solar system and beyond! We ll launch rockets, explore planets, and create our own spaceworthy astronaut gear! Superhero Science Come investigate the real science behind amazing superpowers! Experiment with invisibility, superstrength, and moving objects without touching them! In this camp, anyone can be a superhero! 3

Test your skills on a variety of gaming platforms, then show off your creation in our video game showcase! WEEK-LONG CAMPS LEGO Robotics Using sensors and gears, you can turn ordinary LEGO s into amazing robots! Design a moving robot and use the LEGO WeDo system to explore challenges and find solutions to make your robot even better! Slime Lab Entrepreneur Experiment to create your own unique polymers, slimes, and floam while studying the chemical reactions between different ingredients! Learn how to start your own slime business, design your own packaging, and advertise! Advanced LEGO Robotics Design awesome robots using the LEGO EV3 system! Working alone and in teams, learn engineering basics via exploration and trial-and-error field testing. Build and program robots to complete increasingly complex tasks as the week goes on! No robotics experience is necessary. Minecraft Alive! Roleplay a real-life Minecraft experience while learning the science of geology, construction, and pigs! Get hands-on with planting and farming, and create your very own block fort! Fizz Boom Chemistry Fizzy potions, oozy eruptions, and flashy explosions are what this week s all about! Create a cardboard arcade as a class with a combination of creativity, construction, mechanics, and the design process. Let others test out your games at a showcase with tokens, tickets, and prizes! Ready to play? Advanced Video Games Edge up your gaming skills by designing a virtual game where you control the outcome, characters, and levels! Learn KODU programming, the universal gaming language; plus, draw inspiration from games you can play on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii! Minecraft Alive! Roleplay a real-life Minecraft experience while learning the science of geology, construction, and pigs! Get hands-on with planting and farming, and create your very own block fort! Techno City In this hands-on camp, you ll work together to combine science and imagination to construct and light up your own metropolis! Build a city of the future, of the past, or create a fictional world all your own! Secret Agent Scientist Explore the world of spies and forensics using deductive thinking, your powers of observation, and some cool gadgets! Examine evidence like fingerprints, invisible messages, DNA, and codes while remaining undercover so you can catch the culprit! Best Commercial Ever! Become a writer, director, actor or all three as you make your own commercials. Analyze the psychology of advertisements while you master filming techniques and editing through a series of challenges. App Designer Create your own unique apps using MIT s App Inventor! Learn the basics of programming, how modern technology operates, and how simple ideas can be developed into mobile applications. While it s not required, we encourage you to bring your own Android phone or tablet to this camp. Science of Design Explore how the materials that objects are created from affect their function. 6 Think Tank Camps Experience Summer L.A.B.S. Camps for ages in our youth maker space, Think Tank! Geared toward older learners, these camps are an exclusive opportunity to mix your imagination with your ingenuity to make real things using real tools! Making with Wood Sawing, drilling, and nailing are all on the docket in this one-of-a-kind camp! Learn the skills necessary to build with wood from carving to making things like pencil holders and name plates! With your creativity and skill at work, we can t wait to see what you make! Circuit Madness Create with batteries, LEDs, motors, and more! Try your hand at complex making with paper circuits and Makey Makey boards, as well as constructing your own glue stick lamp. Fuse the science of circuitry with the innovation of making to create functional things! Sustainable Energy Experiment with the energy of the future as we explore sustainable energy systems! Learn how to harness eco-friendly energy from the sun, wind, and other elements with hands-on projects, including making your very own solar-powered mini car! Pinball & Arcades Pinball machines are filled with the science of motion and reflection! This camp explores the science behind pinball and other arcade machines! Explore types of launchers and integrate lighting! Showcase your creation by turning our Think Tank maker space into an arcade! G.O. Camps G.O. camps provide an empowering space for girls to foster a love of STEM through teamwork, creativity, and shared interests. Program & Solder Develop skills in soldering, electronics, and programming in this maker camp! Use Arduino, a prototyping computer program, and circuit boards to create a two-tone European siren and turn an ordinary Altoids tin into a USB charger! Design & Build Get ready for a hands-on experience exploring, constructing, and engineering with unique materials! You ll create your own mechanical hand, design and prototype your own fidget toy, and more. 5
