Girls will learn how their bikes work, how to maintain them, and how to condition themselves for long rides. Best of all, we take bike trips! Girls must know how to ride and have their own bikes. MINECRAFT CAMP: REDSTONE *FULL* In this day camp, students will work both with their peers and the instructor on challenges for obstacle courses and complex machines. VIDEO GAME DESIGN CAMP WITH GAMESALAD *FULL* If you want to learn how to make games, GameSalad is a good place to start. Learn how to create game strategy with logical sequences, and how to develop them from the ground up using GameSalad s drop and drag interface. YOUNG NOVELISTS CAMP: CREATIVE WRITING FOR YOUNG AUTHORS *FULL* Every young writer has a big story to tell. Now is the time to make yours real. In this mini-camp, we build upon your story idea using brainstorming, story mapping, visuals, character arc, and subplot development. WOODWORKING SKILLSHOP LEVEL III If you ve taken woodworking classes as a younger child, this class will help you to take your skills to a higher level. 2 ELECTRONICS AND CIRCUITS CAMP TRASHION-FASHION AND WEARABLE TECH CAMP This class is designed for students who want to explore fashion as a medium for self-expression, with an emphasis on recycling and finding potential in unlikely materials. Students will learn to upcycle, explore wearable tech, and take an unconventional garment from concept to construction. TINKER CAMP: MODEL SHELTERS Kids will work with fine woodworking tools, learn to gauge and measure materials, and use their imagination to create some fantastical tree houses. SUMMER SATURDAY UKULELE 23, 6, 3 :AM - PM Spend a few weeks this summer learning the perfect instrument for summer...the ukulele! The classes are for all levels of students and each one will require their own ukulele. (If you need advice on where and what type of ukulele to buy, please contact us at info@curiousonhudson.com). All ages are welcome in this class (ages and over, including adults). MINECRAFT CAMP: REDSTONE 2 In this day camp, students will work both with their peers and the instructor on challenges for obstacle courses and complex machines. GRAPHIC NOVEL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOP 2 days of working on your own graphic novel under the guidance of a professional graphic novel artist and author. ELECTRONICS AND CIRCUITS CAMP RAIDERS OF THE LOST ARTS: BOOK AND PAPER-MAKING CAMP Learn how to craft custom paper, the different techniques in which books were once bound and constructed, and methods in which they can be decorated. From accordion books to marbled paper, students will gain an appreciation for the age old craft and take home works that will stand the test of time. MAKER CAMP LEVEL III: GEEKS AND HACKS This camp is focused on the spirit of maker-dom with projects focused on electronics and tech. Learn how to solder and wire, and play with Arduino and littlebits. 26 In this advanced woodworking intensive, kids 0+ will try their hand at creating their own chair. 3 DESIGN A CHAIR SKILLSHOP YOUNG NOVELISTS CAMP: CREATIVE WRITING FOR YOUNG AUTHORS BUILD YOUR OWN COMPUTER CAMP comprehend the functional requirements of a chair. Students can work with new and recycled materials Every young writer has a big story to tell. Now is the time to make yours real. In this mini-camp, we build upon your story idea using brainstorming, story mapping, visuals, character arc, and subplot development. In this class, students will build their own desktop computers. The class starts with an introduction to the standard components and assemblies of standard computers and how these parts function to make a working device. They will learn how to load the Linux operating system, test, and debug their builds. Best of all, students get to keep their computers that they build! PROGRAMS FOR GRADES 3- (AGES 7.+) MINECRAFT CAMP: REDSTONE *FULL* START DATE END DATE TIME DESCRIPTION In this day camp, students will work both with their peers and the instructor on challenges for obstacle courses and complex machines. MINECRAFT CAMP: ROMAN ARCHITECTURE *FULL* This class uses Minecraft as a learning platform to explore ancient Roman history and architecture. Students will be given specialized challenges, learn to draw architectural plans, and build their structures within Minecraft. ELECTRONICS AND CIRCUITS CAMP TRASHION-FASHION AND WEARABLE TECH CAMP This class is designed for students who want to explore fashion as a medium for self-expression, with an emphasis on recycling and finding potential in unlikely materials. Students will learn to upcycle, explore wearable tech, and take an unconventional garment from concept to construction. COMIC BOOK CAMP *FULL* This class is all about telling your story through illustration and narrative text. 4 CAMP GROW! BUILD AN EDIBLE WALL GARDEN Make a garden and learn the science of how plants grow. Students will study garden layout, plant varieties, and build their own containers from recycled materials to grow edible plants that they can take home. TINKER CAMP: MODEL SHELTERS 4 PM Kids will work with fine woodworking tools, learn to gauge and measure materials, and use their imagination to create some fantastical tree houses. SUMMER SATURDAY SEWING 23, 6, 3 0 AM - PM Take 4 Saturdays this summer and learn to sew in 4 half-day workshops. You will learn how to use a sewing machine and make two adorable projects. If you ve taken the beginner SewHappy workshop, you can take this workshop as well and the instructors will work with you to advance your skills. WOODWORKING SKILLSHOP LEVEL II 2 If you ve taken woodworking classes as a younger child, this class will help you to take your skills to a higher level. Learn how to use hand and power tools properly, how to plan your project, and how to select materials. MINECRAFT CAMP: CHAIN REACTIONS 2 Using Minecraft as a learning platform, students will design and engineer a complex Rube Goldberg system piece by piece, and in the process learn how every action has a consequential reaction. ELECTRONICS AND CIRCUITS CAMP STUDENTS OF HOGWARTS TAKE CONTROL ( DAY MINI-CAMP) This class puts a scientific and DIY twist on the beloved Harry Potter novels. Students will follow in the footsteps of The Boy Who Lived and make their own wands, take different classes such as Potions, and play some Quidditch on the beach. Whether you re a wizard, witch, or muggle everyone is welcome! 5 SCRATCH CAMP: VIDEO GAME DESIGN If you want to learn how to make games, Scratch is a good place to start. Learn how to create game strategy with logical sequences, and how to develop them from the ground up using Scratch s drop and drag interface. AQUANAUTS II: MARINE SCIENCE CAMP This program is designed for students with a strong interest in marine science. Using our direct access to the Hudson River as a backdrop for projects, this class offers some more advanced activities for water-loving student including learning about marine animals through dissection, seine fishing, water quality testing and much more. COMIC BOOK CAMP This class is all about telling your story through illustration and narrative text. Students are provided prompts and exercises designed to encourage creative thought and sharing of ideas. 2-BALLOONS CAMP 23 2 Our special program for girls is inspired by the novel The Twenty-One Balloons by William Pene DuBois. This camp is about the joy of being free to explore yourself and the world around you with curiosity and confidence. In this 3-day camp, girls will take local trips, spend time on our cove beach by the river, solve team challenges, and work on one individual project in a friendly, positive, and fun atmosphere. PROGRAMS FOR K - 2 (AGES +) STEAM CAMP:OMENAL PHYSICS START DATE END DATE TIME DESCRIPTION Learn how physics makes our world an exciting place to be. Students will work both indoors and outdoors and use fun toys and hands-on projects to study the basic science of motion, magnetism, heat, light, and more. STEAM CAMP: ENGINEERING FEATS Bridges, flying machines, outdoor structures, and vehicles are all accomplishments reached through the use of engineering. Students will learn about them and build their own versions, and keep a notebook to record their designs and outcomes. And yes, there will be plenty of rockets to launch! CURIOLOGISTS CAMP: PALEONTOLOGISTS Everyone knows that dinosaurs are extinct and all we have left are fossils, but how did they become fossils and what can we learn from them? 6 CURIOLOGIST CAMP: AQUANAUTS This class is all about learning basic principles of marine and environmental science through engaging, hands-on activities both indoors and out. CAMP GROW! TINKER CAMP: YOUNG BUILDERS Tinker Camp is to allow kids the opportunity to explore their inner inventor and to learn how trial and error breeds success. They will do a variety of tasks involving building with wood and other materials, taking them apart and re-assembling new machines of their own. MINECRAFT MEETS MAKEY-MAKEY: CONTROLLERS AND CRAFTS Digital meets DIY. Through the use of MaKey-MaKey, students will learn how circuits work and will craft custom controllers. They will then hook it up to Minecraft and watch the world come to life in a new, interactive way. WOODWORKING SKILLSHOP LEVEL I In this beginner class, students learn to use tools, create their own wooden projects and take them home. These are based on the total number of camps for which you are registering, sibling discounts and discounts for friends registering together. See below for specifics. All discounts must be made through telephone registration. We will register your children and send you an invoice that can be paid online (or you may pay over the phone when we take your registration). You may also us with your camp requests at info@curiousonhudson.com. Sibling Discounts (applies to two kids from the same family in the same camp) (Siblings must be in the same camp. Discounts will be added to discount for multi-camp registration.) 0% off the total class cost for two siblings % off the total class cost for three or more siblings. Friends Discount (Applies to multiple families enrolling kids in the same camps. Applied after multi-camp discounts.) Friends must be registered at the same time. Additional discounts will not be added if additional friends are added after initial registration. Friends may register their own children but we collect all friend's names when we take the first registration.if the other friends do not register as planned, the discount will be reversed.) Discount will be applied to any previously established discounts excepting sibling discounts that have already been applied. % off the total camp cost for two or more friends in the same camp. 0% off the total camp cost for three or more friends in the same camp. % off the total class cost for four or more friends in one camp. Cancellation Policy: Cancellations made more than 3 weeks before the start of a class/camp are refundable at 00%. Cancellations made less than 3 weeks of the start date are eligible for a 0% refund. Cancellations made less than 2 weeks are eligible for a 2% refund.
