Campers will explore the artistry of zombie makeup and zombie cartooning at the NIC, while at the Science Zone they will learn about germs and the spread of epidemic diseases, and then come up with a zombie attack survival plan. Coding Ages: 7-14 Coding is everywhere! Think about all the things around us that require coding to work - computers, cell phones, video games, etc. Whether you want to get better at playing video games or build your own computer, you have to start with the basics. In this introductory computer programming camp, we ll practice the basics using a couple different languages through Code.org, Scratch and other online tools. No experience necessary. Energy Science - Ages: 5-6 Light! Heat! Sound! Electricity! We ll explore all these forms of energy with fun hands-on activities and games. Circuit Games - Ages: 7-14 Explore the electrifying world of circuits! We ll spend the week learning the basics of circuits and what materials carry electricity. Build circuits that start motors, fly spinners, and light up lights, and by the end of the week, you ll be able to construct your own electrifying invention using recycled materials.
4 Program Details Lego! - Ages: 7-14 Legos are fun to build with, but did you know you can also use them to create robots? Whether you re just starting out or have been building robots for years, this class will help hone building or programming skills for any level. This class is open to beginners through advanced participants, so please make note of skill level when registering. Water Science - Ages: 5-6 Water is one of our most precious resources, and it also has some pretty amazing properties. Spend your mornings in this camp learning about what makes water so useful and so unique. Whizz, Bang Chemistry - Ages: 7-14 Kablewie! Come prepared to stand back, and plug your ears as we explore the amazing science of Chemistry! Chemical reactions happen around us all day every day, but we ll learn about some of the more explosive ones! Participants in this camp can expect to ooh and aah over the hands-on experiments that make bubbles fizz, colors change, and flames burst to life! Scales and Tails - Ages: 7-14 Scales, claws, and tails oh my! Learn about the reptiles and amphibians of the Science Zone s Zoo Zone, what adaptations make our critters capable of living in exotic environments, and what special care techniques Science Zone staff have to use to mimic their natural habitats. Mini-Makers - Ages: 5-6 This camp is for all aspiring engineers, tinkerers, and builders. During this camp we will use lots of different building materials to explore design concepts that help make buildings sturdy. We will also use tools to help us test our buildings for strength and stability. Citizen Science - Ages: 7-14 There are lots of ways the average person can help out scientists around the world through citizen science projects. In this camp, we ll learn about different fields of science and how we can get involved with big science projects. We ll also help collect data for regional and global projects on weather, water quality, birds, mammals, and more!
5 Art & the Cosmic Connection - Ages: 9-14 The cosmos is a strange and beautiful place and NASA satellites are constantly sending back images of breathtaking scenery from all over the solar system. How do scientists decipher the code? By understanding art! Join the Nicolaysen Art Museum and the Science Zone as we explore NASA s code to the universe through the elements of art and planetary geology. Kitchen Chemistry- Ages: 7-9 Why does bread rise? How do microwaves heat up food? Why does water boil at a different temperature in the mountains? Cooking is an art and a science! Learn the answers to all the kitchen s riddles in this camp as we learn about the tools and techniques used by kitchen scientists daily. Creepy Crawlies - Ages: 5-6 Nearly half of all the animals on Earth are insects, so why not get to know some of them? During this camp, you ll learn what an insect is and the major insect groups, dissect them to identify the key body parts, and spend time outside doing field observations of some of Casper s native insects! Pokémon IRL - Ages: 7-14 Did you know Pikachu is based in name and appearance on the pika, a furry little critter native to Wyoming? Like Pikachu, many of the original Pokémon characters are based on real life animals. In this camp we ll take a look at different Pokémon and learn about the adaptations and habitats of the creatures that gave them real life inspiration. SCI-GIRLS Summer Camp - Ages: The SciGirls summer program is just for girls ages We ll spend this week talking about a wide variety of science topics like kitchen chemistry and veterinary science. Then we ll explore the community to visit local businesses like the spa, bakery, and eye doctor to learn how they apply science in their workplace. Free for CY students. -ology camp - Ages: 5-14 Did you know the ending -ology means the study of? Campers in this session will get a hands-on introduction to many different fields of scientific study like biology, geology, ecology, volcanology, hydrology, and more! Energy of Wyoming- Ages: 7-14 Back by popular demand, this camp is all about Wyoming s energy resources. Participants in this camp will learn about the multifaceted energy industry in the state, study the geology that makes Wyoming so rich in natural resources, look at the technology that helps turn crude resources into usable products, and even take a field trip to a local power station.
6 Animal Science - Ages: 5-6 The Animal Kingdom is big and diverse. In this camp we ll do hands-on activities and play games to help us explore the wide range of Earth s amazing creatures from the tiny ant to the giant blue whale and as many animals as we can squeeze in between! Eclipse Bootcamp - Ages: 7-14 The once in a lifetime total solar eclipse is right around the corner! The Science Zone and Planetarium are teaming up to teach you everything you need to know to get the most out of the eclipse on August 21, including how the Sun, Moon, and Earth align to form an eclipse, phases of an eclipse, key features to look for, and how to safely watch the sun to avoid damaging your eyes. Don t Try This at Home! - Ages: 7-14 These famous last words are the inspiration for this camp s activities. This camp could get messy and is sure to be exciting as we explore the science behind some of our favorite explosive and slimy experiments Earth Science - Ages: 5-6 The Earth is made up of a great diversity of landscapes and they are constantly changing. In this camp we ll look at some of the forces that change the earth by making volcanoes, testing buildings against earthquakes, and learning how water and rain can change landscapes. Tinkering, Tools & Technology - Ages: 7-9 This smorgasbord of a camp is for all young tinkerers and makers. We will use tools and different materials to explore design concepts that have helped create some of the greatest innovations of the 21st century while also trying to design some of the new inventions of tomorrow. DIY Computer Game - Ages: This camp will give participants an introduction to computer programming using the software Scratch 2.0 to create and play a computer game. Learn how to plan a storyboard, design a background, and control characters, then post your game online to play at home!
