2 4-H Mindstorm EV3 Robotics Camp 4 Day Camp Day 2, Wednesday Energizer --How do you like your Robot? 3 Camp Songs Playdough Pictionary CIRCLE UP AND NUMBER OFF..1-3 for 15, 1-4 for 20 groups of 5 Send one rep to me and I will reveal what you must have your team guess..have them all go back to their groups. Then I will blow my whistle when everyone is back at their group and ready to start. Groups go until all groups have guessed it. Energizer: Balloon Trolleys in same groups 6. Review Core Values FLL s signature set of Core Values. We are a team. We do the work to find solutions with guidance from our coaches and mentors. We honor the spirit of friendly competition. What we discover is more important than what we win. We share our experiences with others. We display Gracious Professionalism in everything we do. We have fun. 7. Hula Hoops---- if time 10:00-11:00 Real Robot Videos, Stacking Robots from Day 1 Robots are used to do what we call the 4 Ds Dirty, Dull, Dangerous and Delicate Jobs.I want you in your teams to come up with two jobs that fit these 4 Ds. Might show a couple of Videos for Robots that do dull or dirty jobs. INTRODUCE 3 Roles on Team: Builder, Programmer, Attachment Specialist.Before changing anything on your robot or the program, you must get the permission of the other team members. All should program, all should build, all should help plan out attachments, but you must work together to work as a team. Then Explain what FIRST Lego League Teams do: Ages 9-14 Up to maximum membership of 10 members Yes you will do lots of building and programming of a robot..but there are three other parts to the participation in FIRST Lego League.. There is a yearly Theme: like Climate Connection our communities connection with climate and it s affects on their community, Smart Moves focused on Transportation in our communities-- Body Forward Medical Technology and the body..robotics in surgery, Food Factor about food safety, production and transportation; Senior Solutions: looking at the challenges of growing older in our communities; Last year s theme was Nature s Fury looking at the extreme effects of Floods, hurricanes, tornadoes, wildfires, tsunami s, earthquakes, volcano eruptions and how we can protect ourselves from them, deal with the destruction they cause and recover from their effects. All of the themes have problems that can be solved by engineers and solutions that will help our communities be better prepared to deal with the problems that come about with these themes. The theme for the 2014 FLL Season staring in August is FLL World Class.What is this theme about? What is the future of learning? FIRST LEGO League teams will find the answers. In the 2014 FLL WORLD CLASS Challenge, over 230,000 children ages 9 to 14 from over 70 countries will redesign how we gather knowledge and skills in the 21 st century. Teams will teach adults about the ways that kids need and want to learn. Get ready for a whole new class FLL WORLD CLASS SM! FLL challenges kids to think like scientists and engineers. During FLL WORLD CLASS SM, teams will build, test, and program an autonomous robot using LEGO MINDSTORMS to solve a set of missions in the Robot

4 Game. They will also choose and solve a real-world question in the Project. Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL s signature set of Core Values. -Throughout their experience, teams will operate under FLL s signature set of Core Values which we have shared with you. We are a team. We do the work to find solutions with guidance from our coaches and mentors. We honor the spirit of friendly competition. What we discover is more important than what we win. It does take a commitment to your team as team s will meet a couple times a week for a couple hours each time from September through the second week of December when the Iowa FLL Regional event held in our area in Council Bluffs. There are four parts to FLL: Robotics Challenge Technical Interview Teamwork Interview.do something as a team and then explain how you worked together during the season Research Project Presentation Noon-12:30 pm: Lunch AFTERLUNCH ENERGIZER: Mousetraps The Transport Tree Challenge: You have been given the opportunity to travel in space in six months. In order for you to take your most treasured 3 possessions with you, you must build a container to take those 3 most treasured possessions with you and place them under the Transport Tree for them to be transported ahead of you to your space destination. The container must be under the tree and the tree must remain standing without being disturbed in your process of transporting the container to under the tree. Carry and drop piece or ball into tub lid from starting point.. 6 Afternoon Energizer Craft: Incredible Shrinking Minis Third Sensor: Ultrasonic: 4. Move Until Near MOUNT ULTRASONIC ON YOUR OWN:There isn t a great way to mount the Ultrasonic on your robot, so can you come up with a design to mount your Ultrasonic sensor on your robot remember there must not be anything in front of it that might mess with it sending out it s signal and that signal returning to the sensor. CMRA Intro to Programming: 4. Ultrasonic 3: Wait for Near CMRA Intro to Programming: 4. Ultrasonic 4: Forward Until Near CHALLENGE: Drive to wall start your program with the touch sensor, then drive toward the wall until the Ultrasonic sensor detects that the robot is 10 inches from the wall, then use the Gyro sensor to turn 90 degrees and drive parallel to wall for 12 rotations 4-H Mindstorm EV3 Robotics Camp 4 Day Camp Day 4, Friday Follow the Line Programming and Use of the Color Sensor CMRA Intro to Programming: 5.
