4 Standing Programs continue for Summer Fun Week 7: Monday, 7/30/12 10 am Daydreams Scottie s Preschool Storytime Ages 3-6. Siblings welcome. Attentive Parents must be in tow. Tuesday at 10:00 am Tuesday at 1:00 pm (summer only) and Wednesday 1:00 pm For ages 3-6. This program is free but registration is required. Explore your Day Dreams! We will be discussing the dreams you have at night, as well as in the middle of the day. Each child will decorate their own Dream Jar and fill it with their dreams and wishes after enjoying a colorful dreaming activity and story. Book B-I-N-G-O Family Fun! 2nd 7 pm (June 14 th, July 12 th ) Science in the Summer 4 day program for children going into 2nd thru 6th grades. Registration will begin June 10 am in the Library. DO NOT sign up if your child can not attend every day! August 13-16, (Mon.-Thur.) - Two (2) afternoon sessions: 12:30 pm: Going into grades 2, 3 & 4 in the Fall 2:00 pm: Going into grades 4, 5, & 6 in the Fall Carnegie Science Center returns this year with another wonderful program in conjunction with GlaxoSmithKline. Physical Science and Electricity This summer we will investigate motion and energy. Children will get a first-hand look into the world of magnets, forces, and electricity. Activities will include riding on a hovercraft, experiencing the static charge of a Van de Graff generator, and making a working speaker. 5 Week 6: Saturday, 7/28/12, 6:00 pm Olympics Saturday, 6/9/12, 10-2 pm Kick Off Registration Let the fun begin!! Come in and register!! For ages 5 & up. This program is free but registration is required. There will be teams for different age levels, to be determined. First step register at home or at a Catalog Only computer. Next step is with a volunteer or at the Circ Desk. Your data will be confirmed and questions will be answered. Get your Journal #, and your Registration Bag at that time. Your Dream Journal will be in the Registration Bag. Oh, and while you are at the library you might want to check out some material too! Start accumulating time. Some peoples biggest dreams are to be in the Olympics. This year the Summer Olympics are being held in London. Can t get to London? How about participating in Scott Library s Summer Olympics? Your dream just may come true and you could take home an awesome medal from our wild and wacky Olympics. No real talent required. Just prepare to have a lot of wild fun. It s the Kick Off for Scott Township Library s Summer Reading Club 2012! It s important to keep your kids reading and involved with books all summer long so those skills don t slack off. At Scott, we do that by having extra programs, prize drawings and tons of fun for everyone from babies to Adults. Registering for the Summer Reading Club (SRC) is free, as are most programs. Register early for extra prize tickets starting today, June 9th! This Summer s program runs through August 4 th, so check our calendar for more details as they become available. 6 5:30 PM Kick Off: Saturday, 6/9/12, 6:30 pm Free for the whole family! Bob the Juggler Week 5: Sunday, 7/15/12 5:30 pm & 7 pm Whoo is it that flies at night? You know whoo. Night Flight Bob Spisak has been performing for more than a decade at venues all over the U.S. and has become one of the most in demand performers in the Tri-State area. Whether bouncing seven balls off the ground, or juggling flaming hot torches in the air, you might have seen him somewhere. He's able to showcase a variety of skills including Juggling, Magic, Unicycling, Stilt Walking and Fire Manipulation. Bob has also been featured in commercials for Sandcastle, Streets Smarts, Pitt Football, ESPN, ESPN2, Versus, and FSN...just to name a few. Come explore the world of the Owl with exciting, local Science Teacher Marjorie Rea of A.S.K. (Active Science Kids). Session 1: 5:30 PM Grades 1,2,3 This program is free but registration is required Come explore the world of the Owl with exciting, local Science Teacher Marjorie Rea of A.S.K. (Active Science Kids). Children will simulate the behavior of owl families in their attempt to acquire sufficient food, Survival of the Fittest is not always the rule. They will discover the owl food chain, and environmental factors influencing how an owl survives by playing an owl survival game. Session 2: 7 PM Grades 4,5,6 There is a $2 fee for this program to help offset the cost of the pallets. Please register & pay by coming into the library & stopping at the Circulation Desk. What exactly does an Owl eat? The best way to find out is to explore a sanitized Owl pallet. These chunks of Owl scat are purchased through a Science catalog and are completely sanitized. 7 Week 4: Friday, 7/13/12 6 pm Sandman Cometh Week 1: Saturday, 6/23/12, 3 pm Book a Flight to the Moon For ages 8 & up only. This program is free but registration is required. The Sand Man is here with his bag of sand but he s not going to put you to sleep! Come make some fun & unique Sand Crafts at Scott Library We ll make such things as; Edible Sand Art Jars, Sticky Sand Art, Petroglyphs and more! For ages 5 & up. This program is free but registration is required. Book a Flight to the Moon with renowned crafts author Judy Press. Ms. Press author of Little Hands, Big Fun Craft Book, Little Hands Art Book plus many, many other fabulous craft books for children will help us construct a thematic craft for the day s activity. 8 Week 2: Wednesday, 6/27/12, 6:30 pm Wishful Thinking Come join us for this important event for ages 5 & up. Registration is required. How do you make your wishes? Wish on a star? Blow out a birthday candle? Throw a coin in a fountain? We ll explore ways to wish & hear what you wish for through crafts, stories and games. But more importantly, maybe we can help make some kids wishes come true! We ll be collecting donations for Make-A-Wish Foundation and share in their stories too. Week 3: Saturday, 7/7/12, 6:30 pm Al Mazing Reaching for the Stars at Your Library. Don t miss out on this family fun show! Come join Pittsburgh family magician Al Mazing and travel on an imaginary night out.
