The whole switchyard is grounded with MAT Grounding. In MAT grounding,5 Conductors are placed Horizontally & 8 Conductors are Placed Vertically. All Switchyard equipment are grounded by two Earthing Connection. In switchyard grounding,32mm earthing conductor is used & 75/2 GI earth Sheet is used. All switchyard are gravelled to make the tower footing resistance high.

LIGHTNING ARRESTORS These are equipments designed to protect insulators of power lines and electrical installations from lightening surges by diverting the surge to earth and instantly restoring the circuit insulation to its normal strength with respect to earth.
CIRCUIT BREAKER A circuit breaker is an automatically operated electric switch designed to protect an electrical circuit from damage caused by overload or short circuit. Its basic function is to detect a fault condition and, by interrupting continuity, to immediately discontinue electrical flow. Unlike a fuse, which operates once and then has to be replaced, a circuit breaker can be reset (either manually or automatically) to resume normal operation.

SYSTEM ISOLATORS 400KV, 2000A, 40KA for 3.0 sec isolators for GT, lines, ICT bays shall be provided. The Isolator used in this plant is of two types. Single pole double break isolator. Double pole single break isolator.
CURRENT TRANSFORMERS When current in a circuit is too high to directly apply to measuring instruments, a current transformer produces a reduced current accurately proportional to the current in the circuit, which can be conveniently connected to measuring and recording instruments 400KV oil filled live tank type hermetically sealed single phase current transformers will be used. Multi-ratio CT tapping shall be provided on the secondary side to obtain different ratios in order to different ratios In order to permit different ratios on each core, as desired.
C V T capacitor voltage transformer (CVT) is a transformer used to step down extra high voltage signals and provide a low voltage signal, for measurement or to operate a protective relay. Nominal/highest system voltage 400/420 KV Rated primary voltage 400 KV/1.732 Rated secondary voltage 110 V/1.732
An electronic filtering device designed to exclude unwanted signals or interference. It blocks the high frequency carrier waves (24 khz to 500 khz) and let power waves (50 Hz - 60 Hz) to pass through. It is basically an inductor of rating in milli henry.
Purpose of ICT is simply interconnection between 400KV and 220KV Switchyard. 315MVA,400/220/33 KV ONAN ONAF ODAF HV LV TV

Interlocks When Circuit breaker is ON, Isolator should not operate. When Isolator is CLOSE, Earth switch should be OPEN. When Both the Bus are charged, Bus coupler should not become CLOSE. When DC supply if not available, alarm should be raised. When gas pressure inside the Breaker is reduced to 5Kg/cm2,the alarm should be raised. When the oil pressure inside the current transformer is low, then alarm should be raised. When the Nitrogen gas pressure is low at the Current Transformer, then alarm should be raised. 31
