2 Presidents Message Hello Painters. As I m writing this article my brain is spinning with all the activities we have planned for the remainder of There is the September meeting with Joyce Gutierrez and then our annual ornament exchange at the November meeting. In October, we have the wonderful seminar with Lynne Andrew s, the Paint-In with July Vetock and our Annual Tea and Art Show. You will find more information about these activities in the newsletter. Hopefully I will see you at one, two or all these fun events! Then I start thinking about Bobbi Brady has been busy calling members to try and find nominations to fill our open slate of officers. I hope you will seriously consider being an officer and/or committee chair and/or a committee member in With our membership numbers dropping, we need to have everyone involved to keep our chapter successful. After we have a full slate of officers, we need to plan our calendar for We already have two seminars on the calendar. It is my hope to have three successful Paint-Ins in This can only happen if you volunteer to teach a Paint-In. I m sure our co-vps will have exciting programs for each meeting. In closing, I want to thank the members who have made 2017 a fun year. Thank you for volunteering your time and talent to our great chapter. Remember, you are the reason we have fun at PennsWoodsPainters!!! Linda Kapp 2

I will have sign-up sheets that will be passed around at the general meetings as well as the sign-up sheets for the seminar so I can get a good head count of how many people will be attending. Happy Painting! Joyce Seminar Update: We have gotten a line drawing from Lynne and I have taken it to Andy DePalma s Wood crafts and the cost of the Santa will be $ I did get 2 samples from him and had him make a base for the Santa which is included in the price. 6 MEMORY BOX PROGRAM TOUCHING LIVES THROUGH CREATIVITY Dee DeLorenzo found a large box of small paper mache boxes in her garage that Hilary Felinski passed on to her when she moved. There were 40 small boxes in it. At one time, our local hospitals did not want the small boxes, but now the NICU at Hershey is using them for hand and foot casts. We are low on small painted boxes, so I will be bringing all small paper mache boxes to the meetings for a while. The Tole Friends Memory Boxes Association ( sent out an with an urgent request for memory boxes. On July 31, after checking to see whether the NICU at Hershey needed more boxes, the Board approved shipping 24 memory boxes to help fulfill the urgent request. I shipped 8 boxes each to three different hospitals in Allentown, Philadelphia, and Dublin, OH. We currently have 64 painted boxes and 108 unpainted boxes. I will continue to bring paper mache boxes and patterns to regular meetings. We keep at least 10 boxes in the storage cabinet at The Carlisle Area Sertoma Club if you need some in between meetings. Keep painting boxes as we never know when the next call will come for more boxes. Thanks for supporting this worthwhile community service project. Carol L. Henry Co-Chair, Memory Box Program These are some of the painted rocks that members did at the opening painting. They put our website on the rocks in hopes that people will find them and seek us out. A great way to peak peoples interest in art. Paint a rock and place it someplace in hopes that someone else will pick it up. 6

9 Member spotlight Jeannine Lewis I was lucky enough to have grown up in a very creative family, and have been painting (or at least playing in paint) for as long as I can remember. I mostly paint with oils or acrylics, but love trying new things. I ve done everything from watercolor, colored pencil, pastels, mixed media, leather work, sculpting, glass-blowing, costume-making, woodcarving, quilting, ceramics... Pretty much, if it qualifies as visual arts, I will try anything! I am the co-owner of a movie memorabilia company that deals in film and television prop replica model kits. Kit production has introduced me to a variety of the artistic and industrial techniques required to produce realistic looking props. I feel this experience has also helped me mature as a fine artist. I am currently working on my Certification. I passed ADP level in still life in 2016, and tried, but did not pass, CDA level this year. Trying for certification has been an amazing experience so far. It really makes you think about everything you ve learned in different classes, and brings them all together. It also had the side benefit of giving me more painting time, since I was scheduling times to work on the certification, instead of just trying to paint when I had spare time. I highly recommend the program! Photos: The passing ADP painting center), the non-passing CDA (bottom left), the Ruby Lamp is from the first class I ever took with Cheri Rol (bottom right), the dinosaur is a model kit that got a 3rd place at Wonderfest ( big model kit show) (top left), then the Mouse toys is N original by me, took a 1st place at HOOT and a 3rd at SDP (bottom center). Also pictures of me, one from the beach at SDP (top right),and one from a sci-fi convention (center right). 9

SDP now has a rolling 12-month dues system for each member. The payment of dues begins when a member signs up. For example, if you sign up in May then your membership is from May to April and you will pay dues in May. Question: should PWP follow the same schedule? Show and Tell Fran Huffman painted birds on preprinted canvases she bought at a thrift shop. She also painted a butterfly design that was in a Decorative Painter magazine. Jeannine Lewis showed us a still life painting she submitted for certification. It did not pass, but she received great feedback at SDP conference. Dee DeLorenzo was cleaning her house and found 3 artist trading cards she had painted of seascapes. Eileen Betton painted a beautiful seascape with a horse running on the shore. Joyce Gutierrez painted a Rosemary West design God Bless America on a USA wood cutout. Linda Kapp painted a treasure box with her own zentangle design.
