1 For more information visit our website at or us at Come to our Sculpture Garden OPEN HOUSE, Small Works Art Show & Iron Pour Benefit Saturday, June 21st, 11 4 (rain date Sunday, June 22) Drawing & Painting on Location SA 1 EN PLEIN AIR LANDSCAPE PAINTING WORKSHOP Sean Beavers, 5 Days June 9-13, 10:00 3:00 Daily Limit 12 Tuition $430 Materials list sent upon registration This workshop is designed to teach students the fundamentals of painting on location through the study of light, color, value and atmosphere through close observation of nature along with a look at tools and techniques. With an understanding of these principles students can more easily meet the challenges of plein air painting: working directly from nature, constantly changing light, and capturing the essence of a landscape quickly. Each Day will be split into two parts, an in studio discussion of materials and techniques, and painting on location in the seacoast area. Students will need a portable easel, painting supplies, drinking water, food and sun protection. SA 2 GARDEN LANDSCAPE IN WATERCOLOR Dewitt Hardy, 5 Days June :00 4:00 Daily Limit 12 Tuition: $240 This landscape painting workshop is designed for elementary and advanced watercolor students, painting in the gardens at Sanctuary Arts. Designed and informal garden landscapes are our topics as we strive to capture changing light and shadow. We will begin with simple garden landscape and progress to more complex spatial and formal pieces. We will stress mastering large shapes in light and shadow; space, both linear and atmospheric, and elementary color. Bring a French or watercolor easel if you have one, or you may bring a TV tray or small folding table. A materials list will be sent to each student to bring to the first class. SA 3 PAINTING THE FIGURE IN THE GARDEN & STUDIO Christopher Pothier, 5 Days August 4 8, 1:00 4:00 Daily Tuition $240 Model Fee $60 This oil painting class focuses on placing the figure in a setting, outdoors (weather permitting) or indoors, to achieve a specific mood. In the outdoor setting, we would place the clothed figure in a garden setting, with trees in the distance, and paint the scene as we see it. For the indoor setting, we will stage the model with props. The idea of making a complete painting, along with the environment in which the model is placed, is essential for this class. Not only will we focus on the technical aspects of painting the figure, but also realize the importance of the space which surrounds it.
2 SA 4 DRAWING IN HISTORIC GARDENS Carol Morley, 4 Weeks Thursday 10-1 June 5-26 Materials list sent upon registration Sit amongst the poppies, peonies, irises and roses and experience the pleasure of drawing flowers in some of the loveliest historic gardens in the local seacoast area. There will be techniques to capture groups of flowers as well as individual features. The gardens to be visited are in Portsmouth, North Hampton and South Berwick. Rainy days will be held in the classroom. (there will be one outdoor make up class July 3) All levels of students welcome SA 5 OUTSIDE / INSIDE; Water Media Dustan Knight, 4 Weeks Friday 9:30 12:30 June 6 27 This all level water media class emphasizes sketching, designing, working with values, progressing into color and painting techniques in acrylic, watercolor and gouache. SA 21 ADOBE PHOTOSHOP, The Basics Kim Ferreira, 8 Weeks Tuesday 6-8 June 10 July 29 Tuition $230 Adobe Photoshop is a complex graphics and image editing software and paint program. It has become a mainstay with artists to edit and manipulate images and to create promotional materials such as business cards and postcards. Photoshop is by far the most extensive program available and offers the most features and options. Have fun learning the basics as well as a few more advanced features. This course will require that you have a laptop computer with the Adobe Photoshop software and images of your own artwork. (The instructor will be using Adobe Photoshop CS4 - but the majority of the features and tools discussed are present in other versions of Adobe Photoshop.) SA 22 BUILD A WEBSITE IN WORDPRESS Kim Ferreira, 8 Weeks Wednesday 6 8 June 11 July 30 Tuition $230 Bring your own laptop Wordpress is not only a popular blogging tool, but also a user-friendly content management system, which makes it perfect for building websites for artists so that they can update their resume, images and other content whenever they want instead of having to go thru a webmaster. The site will include a home page, about page, portfolio page, contact page and even a blog. It is recommended that students have a basic understanding of formatting images (cropping, sizing, etc) in either photoshop or similar image editing software. Additional cost includes hosting and domain name. (Currently this is $53.88/12 months thru GoDaddy). We will sign up together for the hosting and domain name at the first class, students will need to sign up using their own credit cards as the billing for hosting occurs yearly.
