After such a long cold winter it was refreshing to paint flowers. The coal buckets were gorgeous. A great big thank you to Sheri Redd, Leslie Williams, and Doreen McLain for turning them into works of art. Even though I was out of town for Debra Houts' seminar I heard it was wonderful. It's always such a pleasure when she comes back to visit us and a great big bonus when she leads us in a project. The August picnic is right around the corner. Don't forget to paint your flowers on the boards Sally handed out, and bring a dish for the potluck. This is also a great opportunity to clean out your stash and stock up on new-to-you treasures with our trunk sale. Happy summer Linda Newsletter Editor Linda Morgan (734) morganlj@sbcglobal.net Membership Loretta Huebler (734) lhuebler@wowway.com

6 6 Education Diane Stiller We just finished our two day seminar with Debra Houts. It was so nice to see her again looking so fit and tan. Colorado must agree with her! We learned her dry brushing technique and she described how to apply the paint and liquid lead to get the stained glass look. The two day seminar was attended by 60 people; 4 of them non members. There was a cash profit of $47.14 after $116 in pence was covered. Please make sure to send in your registration forms for the classes coming up in August and September: the Wall Mural, Lydia Steeves, and Sherry Nelson. Make sure to order your Subway lunch from Joan Mueller for the Saturday class for Lydia Steeves and Sherry Nelson. I need 7 more students in order to break even for the Lydia Steeves class; the deadline is July 26. So far we have made a cash profit on our seminars; let s not break our perfect record! The registration form for the Wall Mural Extravaganza is on our web site. I hope many of you are thinking of registering a team or two or even three! It will be a fun day as you all create your very own masterpiece. It will end with a spaghetti dinner while the judges select the top three wall murals. You will have a chance to win a gift certificate to either a Sherry Nelson or a Leslie Williams class. Don t miss out on the fun! The deadline to register is at our annual August picnic where you can also pick up the image template. I need at least 12 teams to make this event a go; so I need 9 more teams. This is the perfect opportunity to paint with a friend or family member including grandchildren. I have ed the pattern and prep instructions for Lydia Steeves, Sherry Nelson, and Leslie Williams to everyone who has registered. For Lydia and Leslie, there is an attachment for the pattern and prep instructions. For Sherry, there is only an that contains her prep instructions. Sherry will give you the pattern at class since she wants to demonstrate her method of transferring the pattern. If you register for the Saturday reverse glass painting class, the crow quill pen and ink are included. If you are registering for the Beary Xmas class taught by Leslie Williams, you can purchase the ornament shaped surface from her for $4.50. If you are paying by check for the surface, then please make the check payable to Leslie Williams. Leslie will be bringing the surfaces to the August meeting. Very Important! Don t forget to submit your application to teach next year. The application is on our web site. There is also one for the Learn to Paint! program. The application should be postmarked no later than July 20. At this time you only need to submit a photo of the project with your application. You can have multiple entries. The popular vote will take place at the August picnic. If selected, then you would need to bring the painted project to the October meeting so we can take pictures to display in our brochure and on our web site. If you admired someone s work during the year, encourage them to teach. Jamie Mills Price has sent me a file of proposed projects for the June, 2015 seminar. We are going to have a hard time narrowing it down to two. We will conduct a popular vote at the August picnic, as well as, for the Judy Ribitch class project.
7 7 The Village Painters presents a Wall Mural Extravaganza Sunday, August 17, 2014 Is it a castle, a spaceship, an iceberg, a race car? You decide! Here s an opportunity to let your imagination go wild! You will pick up the above pattern at either the June or August general meeting. The size of the image cannot be altered; however, you can cut the outline out so you can use it to trace the image onto your surface. The rest of the painting is up to you. On August 17, you will be given a 2 x 2 foot square of masonite which will be base coated with your choice of one of four colors: Blue, Green, Beige, or Dark Gray. The only medium that can be used is acrylic paint including paint with glitter in it. No other embellishments can be used: no gluing anything on, no sprinkling glitter, no crackle, etc. Remember above where it says the size of the image cannot be altered? There is one exception and that s if you will repeat the image multiple times. In that case, the size of at least one of the images can not be altered; the others can be smaller. For instance, if your image will be a race car, at least one race car must be the original size of the image and the other race cars can be smaller. Register as a team. A team consists of either one or two members. One member must be a Village Painters member; the second member (if you choose to have one) must be someone with little to no painting experience. The Village Painter member can be on multiple teams. For instance, one team can be you and your daughter, another team can be you and your grandson. Use a separate registration form for each team. Each team costs $ You can paint from 9am to 2:30 pm. You will need to bring your own lunch. Lunch is whenever you want to eat. This gives everyone the maximum amount of time that they want to keep painting their masterpiece. At 2:30 all painting must stop. While you are eating a spaghetti dinner (which will include desserts, of course!), I will have judges selecting the top three paintings. The judges will have the image and make sure that they can match the outline of the size and shape of it in your painting. They will also be looking at creativity, and the overall look of the finished product. Winners will be announced at the end of dinner. The Village Painters member will receive as a prize: 1 st Place: A $45 gift certificate for a Sherry Nelson class 2 nd Place: A $30 gift certificate for a Sherry Nelson class 3 rd Place: A $20 gift certificate for the Leslie Williams A Beary Xmas class If there is a second team member, they will receive as a prize: A $15 gift certificate to a 2014 Learn to Paint class and a bag filled with painting items.
