Newsletter Aug 2017 Inspiration in Abstract Brenda Stichter & Andy Corp President s Patter Brushed Acrylic by Brenda Stichter Poured Acrylic by Andy Corp Brenda Stichter is a lover of God, family, and art Choosing to use abstract painting as a language most of Stichter s paintings are representations of Scripture passages or principles, with the occasional representational work or experimental undertaking. She uses texture and iridescent paint in many of her paintings, and has a personal symbol in almost every painting representing her relationship with her Heavenly Father. Andy Corp is an Acrylics artist who is currently creating work using the poured acrylics technique. His latest series of paintings is titled Pushing the Darkness Away. Andy created this series of paintings in order to give people hope. As the darkness in this world closes in on us and the storms of life pull us in every direction there can be hope found in the light. As the light breaks through these paintings so Christ can break through our lives and bring us hope and life. So enjoy these paintings and just as this series of paintings varies in the strength of storm no matter the storm in your life Christ can shine through. See a video of Andy creating a piece of artwork here : Hello, As I write this brief article I am realizing the year is over two thirds gone already. School is back in session for some and others will return over the coming weeks. Being part of an active art association has kept me oblivious to how fast the year has progressed. With that in mind, Lakeland has four more exhibits scheduled for this year, artist receptions, the annual members meeting in November and art classes for your participation. That reminds me...do you have your smalls ready for the annual Christmas boutique hosted at he Lakeland Art Center & Gallery? Smalls can be Christmas ornaments, stained glass sun catchers, jewelry, photography, smaller paintings, etc. We ll exhibit and sell the larger paintings as well. The boutique begins the middle of November, ends the middle of December, and is yet another way for all our members to sell their work. If you missed it July 24 was the annual members picnic with our newer members attending. During the course of conversation one of the newest members stated he was impressed by how active the art community is in our area. Paul resides in Roanoke which is not far from Fort Wayne. He stated our area seems to promote the artists and offer more in various gatherings and events. While he was not speaking solely about Lakeland Art Assoc. I was proud to know that artists outside our area are watching and see that we are an active art community. A community they want to be a part of. Melodie

2 Who Done It Art Opportunities! Ann Peperak received an Honorable Mention at the Akron Show and a Purchase Award at the Logansport Show. Pat Thompson won a merit award at the Fort Wayne show, also an Honorable mention in the Akron 4th of July show. Marilyn Kruger & Pat Thompson were accepted to be in the 2018 Ford Meter Box Calendar competition. Steve Creighton s landscape painting "First Snow" won first place at the Lafontaine Arts Council 2017 Regional Fine Arts Show at the Merillat Centre for the Arts, Huntington University. The exhibit is on display until August 30. Steve Creighton's painting "Copper Plate" has been juried into the upcoming National Oil and Acrylic Painters' Society's "Best of America" exhibition to take place at Castle Gallery in Fort Wayne October 16 - November 11th. 4 The Goshen Painter s Guild in Goshen, IN is excited to share a wonderful watercolor painting workshop that we are hosting on Aug th. This Workshop is being taught by nationally renowned watercolor artist Sandy Maudlin. We have decided to extended the deadline for registration to Monday Aug. 7 th. Sandy Maudlin Mixed Water Media Workshop Thurs. Aug 10th - 9:00 AM - 4 PM (with 1 hr. lunch break) Fri. Aug. 11th - 9:00 AM - 4 PM (with 1 hr. lunch break) Sat. Aug. 12th - 9:00 AM - 4 PM (with 1 hr. lunch break) Instructor, Sandy Maudlin Tuition: $285 Due to the overwhelmingly positive response to Sandy Maudlin and her wonderful teaching techniques, Sandy will be returning in August to teach another workshop for the Goshen Painter's Guild.
