Conner St., Noblesville, IN May 29, 2012 Our excellent adventure reaps benefits for you Bill and Ted weren t there, but Lyneen, Capi, Kathy and Stephanie had their own Excellent Adventure when they went to the International Quilt Market in Kansas City. The four AIS staff members shopped at, learned from and took the four-day Market by storm. Collectively, they went to 60 classes over the four days and met some of the foremost quilters and designers, including Nancy Zieman (pictured with Stephanie and Kathy, host of public television s longest running sewing show, Pokey Bolton, founder of Quilting Arts magazine and host of the TV show by the same name, and McKenna Ryan, a designer that specializes in nature patterns using Hoffman batiks. They also brought back many great ideas for the shop that our customers are going to love, and won a visit from a HandiQuilter educator. Among the 2,000 booths at the Market, which is exclusively for quilt shops, our Fab 4 found wonderful sewing machine cabinets that have already been added to our inventory. Come in today to see the variety of finishes available in these cabinets that will accommodate any machine, no matter the age or make. They re priced to sell and will be a great addition to anyone s sewing room. When you walk in to Market, you re just overwhelmed with inspiration, said Kathy, an avid quilter who organizes our bus trips to quilt shows. Co-workers and customers weren t far from their minds as they wandered up and down aisles. You d walk past something and say, That looks like Cindy, or That looks like Virginia. 2 BOUND TO PLEASE The Civil War Quilting Circle Christy Wiegand, our longarm quilter, enjoyed the variety of information, photos and quilts that she found in The Civil War Sewing Circle: Quilts and Sewing Accessories Inspired by the Era. One of the staggering facts that piqued Christy s curiosity in the book was about the number of quilts women made for the Union troops: 250,000. She found excerpts from letters and other pieces written to loved ones, soldiers and other quilters especially interesting. Three days of each week are devoted to sewing for the soldiers, reads the July 1862 excerpt from Susan Bradford Eppes diary. Often we sew steadily for days at a time, that is when we are getting up a special box to be sent by some soldier, who has been on a visit home and is returning to camp. Cousin Henry Bradford will take the box we are making ready now, he is a Major and certainly looks handsome in his blue uniform, just a single star on his collar and chevrons on his sleeves. The book by Kathleen Tracy has 16 easy projects, including large and small quilts, a pincushion, sewing box and needle case. Tools rule at June Demo Day The June 2 Demo Day will feature tools for quilting. Look for stations set up in the shop throughout that day where you can learn to use a variety of tools, including the Add-A-Quarter ruler, the Add- An-Eighth ruler and a bias cut binding tool that was featured at the International Quilt Market. 3 Winners! We ve got winners If anyone knows our staff well, it must be Suellen Fletcher. She had the most correct guesses about which staff quilter made each of the quilts that are hanging near the coffee area in the shop. Her reward was a $25 gift certificate. We had to end the contest early because Quiltmaker magazine beat us to the punch. It published a picture of our quilters and their work on page 9 of the May-June issue. It was such a hit in Noblesville, we ve sold out of that issue. Congratulations to Suellen, as well as to Sharon M. Gray, Pam Podany and Loralei Campbell, winners in our final contest. You re about to be yarnbombed Always In Stitches has jumped ahead of the trend in Noblesville. Check out our yarnbombed pole in the Yarn Department. Knitting instructor Penny Little and her students made the colorful, whimsical pieces that are knitted around and dangling from the pole. When Noblesville celebrates Nickel Plate Arts Weekend June 1-3, look for displays on Courthouse Square. Yarn bombing is street art without chalk or spray paint. It s a global trend that s also called guerrilla knitting, yarnstorming, urban knitting and graffiti knitting. Wrapping trees is common but many objects have been chosen as the knitters canvas, including water hydrants, lampposts, mailboxes, buses, bridges and statues. Take a look at some of the art that s been created at Do you know the value, history of your quilts? Caryl Schuetz will be in the shop June 9 to appraise and explain the history of your quilts. Caryl is certified by the American Quilter s Society and is a member of the Professional Association of Appraisers Quilted Textiles. For $45, she will appraise one quilt in a private, 30- minute session. Additional quilts must be signed up for individual sessions.

4 \ Day camp for kids will teach sewing basics Before the kids start singing the Nothing To Do Blues this summer, enroll them in a weeklong camp where they ll learn sewing basics and get a sewing machine of their own. Children 9-12 years old who ve never threaded a needle will make a project every day during the Always In Stitches camp. Projects include a drawstring bag, a pillowcase and a sewing machine caddy, which will come in handy at the end of the week when they take home a full-size Janome Hello, Kitty sewing machine. Instructor Ruth Middleton will teach how to use the variety of stitches and other features -- such as a one-step buttonhole and a needle threader -- on their Hello, Kitty machines. Camp is from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. June In addition to the sewing machine, the $259 camp fee includes pre-cut fabric and all supplies needed for all five projects. Space is limited. Reserve a space today. Get fresh ideas at 2 June trunk shows Two trunk shows in early June will offer some terrific new ideas for quilters. The Cozy Pattern Originals line makes fun, easy projects using pre-cut 2½-inch strips. These projects will be displayed from June Most of Claudia Lash s Presto Avenue Designs are created with beginning to intermediate quilters in mind. Her show will be displayed from June parts knitting, 1 part party: Knit In is altogether fun It s hard to tell if knitters come to our Knit Ins for the conversation, the fellowship or the knitting. But one thing is certain: They get all three in the nearly 10-hour event. The next Knit In is 5-9 p.m. June 15 and 10-3:30 p.m. June 16. The $15 participation fee is due when you register. We appreciate you using our products during this event. Two-day fat quarter sale offers great prices All of our fat quarters will be available at a special price June 18 and 19, and that includes the newest Amy Butler ones. On those days, you can buy 20 fat quarters for $30, or buy 40 and get a Turning Twenty book free while supplies last. All the patterns in Turning Twenty books are fat quarter friendly. Large ones use 20 fat quarters. The blocks are large, which reduces sewing time, and the projects are ideal for beginners. Vacation time is opportunity to have your machine cleaned When you re making summer vacation plans, why not consider giving your sewing machine a sort of spa treatment? Schedule it for cleaning at Always In Stitches. Service prices range from $69.95 for a basic, noncomputerized machine to $99.95 for a Long Arm Quilting Machine or serger. We also need your power cord and foot pedal; it s helpful to have the owners manual, as well.
