1 Cabarrus Quilters Guild Newsletter October 2012 From the President s Desk: I can t believe another month has flown by and the quilt show is just around the corner. I m really getting excited. Hope the rain will stay away long enough for the show. I helped with the judging but didn t have time to stop long enough to admire each quilt. It s only taken me 3 years to be able to recognize individual blocks on most quilts. If I read the directions enough times I can usually figure out a block. I find that I m willing to take on more complicated blocks. Our Row by Row is almost over. The revealing will be at our October meeting. I can t wait for everyone to see their completed top. While talking to everyone, we all wanted to do our best work each month. That just increased the pressure we put on ourselves. This was definitely a learning experience for me. Trying to stay within each theme was sometimes difficult. Normally I can take the time to image a completed quilt but changing themes every month was a challenge. My interpretation of the guidelines forced me out of my comfort zone. Don t know what I would have done without being able to call friends and Google. I hope everyone enjoyed seeing our creations every month. Thanks to everyone for keeping us in the dark about our quilts. Just reminder note. Your cuddle quilts are due next month. November Meeting. Dottie's art quits will be on display at the Cabarrus Art Sow, Dotty will be at the show on September 6 to 9th. May 13, 2013 Secretary Joyce Furr Treasurer Ann Bolick September, 2012 Minutes: Carol opened the meeting with welcoming guest and members, she also recognized birthdays. Carol ask all the members to go to face book to warm and natural and register so the guild would stand a chance to win a bold of warm and natural batting. There will be no sew Saturday in October. Ann Bolick was nominated for sectary. Money for raffle tickets will be due at the November meeting Renee gave update on quilt show. If you wish to have your newsletter mailed, there will be a small $10.00 charge to help defray the cost of paper and postage. It will also be available on the guild website for everyone. People joining after July pay ½ dues except the name badge is $ Guild Retreats Retreat News On September 19 th thru September 24, 2012, twelve members of the guild and two quests attend the bi annual fellowship at Tabor Retreat, Lynchburg, VA. The retreat is a great opportunity for guild members to get together to laugh, share tips and techniques, shop and enjoy some wonderful meals. Everyone enjoyed the solitude offered by the retreat center. It was a very relaxing, productive time for all. Members attending the retreat were Joyce Furr, Marsha Haney, Deb Seatz, Joanna Cupp with her sister Sara Trull, Ruth Garrott, Carol Harris, Sarah Burmus, Diane Thayer, Mattie Johnson, Phares Sechlerand her guest Alice Sloop, Mildred Lamb and Lisa Edwards. This group worked on projects ranging from bible covers to quilted cup liners as well as flannel jackets and just plain ole quilts! Dates for the 2013 retreats will be published soon! 4 Do you need help with a technique or a project? Mildred is the best. Sew Tuesdays are held the first and third Tuesdays of every month from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the Concord Senior Center. Contact Mildred Lamb at the above address, or call her at to let her know you are planning to attend. We plan to add community projects to do either on Sew Tuesdays or Saturday sewing sessions. We will talk about this in the meeting. Guild Library: Marsha Haney itsmarsha@ctc.net If you see any books that you would like to check out on the web site library list, send an to Marsha to bring the book to the next meeting and you may check them out. Quilting Class Quilting and sewing classes start Sept. 13th at the Levine campus of Central Piedmont Community College. If you know anyone that needs to tweak their skills or is just interested to see if quilting is their "thing", please tell them about the class. The information is located under Corporate and Continuing Education and called the Art of Quilting. Sew Saturday Class We will not have a Sew Saturday in October. Please take the time to relax and enjoy the autumn weather that I know is coming. Consider taking a walk with someone special. Quilt Guild Opportunity Beginning in September, Judy Lea's Quilt Studio will be open from 4 to 7 on the Monday of the Guild Meeting. Please understand that each year a quilt show is held and quilts are judged, there is a charge of $10 for a guild member to get their quilts judged.
