I really enjoyed last month s meeting with the tutorials. We have such talent in this Guild and any chance I get to learn from someone who is willing to share their knowledge or techniques, I m doing it! I also thought it was a great way to celebrate National Quilting Month. I m also looking forward to April s program to learn about thread, what a great opportunity. I have to admit, I don t only have a fabric problem, I have a thread problem too!! I would like to pass on that I registered the Guild for a booth at the Raleigh Sewing Expo July. These folks have been wonderful with the registration and providing us a booth. Those selling raffle tickets will be given free admission to the Expo. In return, they have requested that we sign up to be Expo Ambassadors. They have numerous opportunities to volunteer (both standing and sitting jobs), some even include being a classroom assistant = you get the class free! Please contact me to sign up. You can check out the Expo information at Beth The April Board Meeting will be at Village Baptist Church on 9th, 6:30 pm in the Fireside Room.

2 VA Quilts by Cindy Clifton: We received 3 quilts at the March meeting: Yolanda Cofield donated one and Nancy Szymkowiak donated two. Aby Dolinger volunteered to make the mini patriotic quilt that Norma Fraser at the VA will have framed which will give recognition to the Tarheel Quilters for their 30+ years of donating quilts to our Vets. I will be taking 64 quilts to the VA to be donated to the vets in the Kidney Dialysis Center before the end of March. Thanks so very much, Ladies. BABY QUILTS by Mary Lou Dibbling Many thanks to our members who donated baby quilts this month: Marlene Brudvig -6, Mary Dane -5, Nancy Symkoviak, Abigail Dolinger and Donna Saunders each with 3, Yolanda Cofield-2 and Cindy Rickler, Louise Cox, Gladys Pedrijew, Sonia Blue, and Sharon Martin each with 1 for a total of 27. Last month I didn t list Mary Dane with 6, instead of the four I put in the report. I m sorry for that mistake. Twenty of these quilts were for girls and only seven for boys. The contest for the most quilts made for the NICU this year is over and the winner will be announced at the April meeting, 2 nd VP Report by Susan Grunke Fat Quarter: Blue or weather related Block of the Month: See Attached On Tuesday, March 20, my husband, Bill and Debbie Grice helped deliver 15 quilts to the NICU. There were 6 boys plus two set of boy twins, totaling 10 and 5 girls. We also spoke with Evelyn in the office about the remembrance blankets. We gave her two and she was so touched by our prompt response she was in tears. She loved them and hoped that we would put a label on them. Please remember that we have a sew day on Saturday, April 21st to sew these small blankets for the deceased babies in the NICU. It will be at the Stoney Point Rec Center. You can also make them at home and bring to the meetings. PLEASE HELP BY MAKING MORE BOY QUILTS. In storage right now, we have 33 girl quilts and only 17 for boys. We gave out twice as many boys as girls this month. PLEASE THINK BLUE, SPORTS OR BUGS!!

3 TARHEEL QUILTERS GUILD GENERAL MEMBERSHIP MONTHLY MEETING MARCH 18, 2018 The meeting was called to order by President Beth Medeiros at 2:00PM Two corrections to February 18 minutes were noted. The corrected minutes will be placed on file. Treasurer s report ending February 28, 2018 which will be put on file for audit: Income: $ Expenses: $ Checking account balance: $ Certificates of Deposit: $26, Total: $31, President announced that she would like to register the Guild as an attendee at the Raleigh Sewing Expo to sell raffle tickets July The booth space will be provided free of charge but volunteers are needed to sell the tickets. 1st VP: Nancy Moore presented the next workshop to take place August 18, presented by Susan Edmondson Designs (fiber artist) which includes a Trunk Show on August 19. Nancy presented to the Guild that an additional $ was needed in order to have this class. A motion was made to increase the workshop budget by $ , motion was seconded. Discussion ensued regarding the workshop funds status. A vote was taken; motion passed to increase the workshop 2018 budget line by $ nd VP: Susan Grunke provided information regarding the March program of members demonstrating nine different sewing techniques. April s program will consist of a guest speaker from YLI Thread Co., What a Difference the Right Thread Makes. Committee Reports: Baby Quilts: Mary Lou Dibling announced a prize will be awarded at the April meeting for the member who made the most baby quilts in (Jan, Feb, Mar). 19 quilts (9 boy/10 girl) were donated to the NICU in Feb. Next donation will occur Mar 20th at 9:30. Mary Lou also provided that the hospital asked about potential donations for memory quilts to be provided to those parents whose child passes. The quilts could be made of anything and be no larger than about 15x15 inches. A sew day has been set aside for those interested on April 21st 9:00 4:00 at Stoney Point. VA Quilts: Cincy Clifton thanked those who assisted with the annual delivery of quits (73) to the Veterans. This leaves 72 quilts in storage. Cindy presented the idea of donating the surplus to the VA s Dialysis Center. A motion was made for a single donation of 64 quilts to the VA Dialysis Center; the motion was seconded. Discussion ensued on quilt sizes and additional deliveries. The motion was put to vote and passed to donate the 64 quilts to the VA Dialysis Center.

4 Cindy Clifton also announced Norma (head of the VA volunteer services) would like to frame and hang a patriotic quilt 18x24 in size in the Guild s name. Aby Dolinger volunteered to make the quilt. Newsletter: Inputs are due by March 25 for the April newsletter. Block of the Month: Aby Dolinger presented in the absence of Donna Hunt. 27 people turned in blocks. Next month s block is a window pane with flowers in the windows. Fat Quarters: April s fat quarter color is blue or weather related. Challenge Quilts: Irene Grimes reminded everyone of the April challenge of fives which can be any size, it just needs to contain five of something i.e. five borders, five colors, etc. Outreach Program: Sana Moulder chaired a quilting day at the library. Amy Allison thanked those who assisted and provided a gift from the library to them. Sunshine: Barbara Jackson reminded members to let her know if someone needs to be sent sunshine wishes. Notes were taken by Lynne West and typed by Beth Medeiros in the absence of the Secretary. 5 Challenges in 2018 by Irene Grimes April (regular challenge) The Number 5 Challenge There must be five of something in your quilt (five different block designs or five colors or five borders - you get the idea) July (mini challenge) Placemat Challenge Size Guidelines: 12 x18 to 14 x20 Any technique, any shape You may enter a single placemat or submit a set *Consider donating your placemat(s) - the donated ones will be given to Meals on Wheels (during the holidays they gift them to their meal recipients) September (reg. challenge) Color of the Year! The Pantone color of the year is PURPLE (Ultra-Violet, ) The Kona Color of the Year is ORANGE (Tiger Lilly) any technique, any style, any size, as long as the piece reads purple, tiger lily or both! November (reg. challenge) Patriotic, but think outside the box! You may only use one of the following colors: red, white, blue (bonus points if you don t use any of the three). WORKSHOPS by Nancy Moore AUGUST WORKSHOP: Remember to check out Susan Edmondsons designs for our August 18 workshop. It is $40 and will be so much fun!!!!
