1 Spring 2012 Edition Country Traditions Newsletter Happy New Year Country Traditions Friends! Did you make any New Years Resolutions? A New Year, New Beginnings! It s exciting to think about all the possibilities, projects and fabrics a New Year holds in store for us! We have been busy planning an exciting year for you! Hope you enjoy! Country Traditions was first featured in the 2005 Spring Quilt Sampler issue, then in the Best of the Best Special Edition in 2007, and now as an Encore Shop in We are honored and humbled to be the first shop to be feature three times! When you visit the shop, you may leave with something more than fabric and thread. How about improved mental, emotional, and even physical well-being? Study after study demonstrates the benefits of leading a well-balanced lifestyle, with time to pursue personally satisfying hobbies like sewing, quiltmaking, and other needle arts. Similar to yoga, creating with needle and thread allows the mind to focus on the task at hand, clearing away distractions and problems. Psychologist and bio feedback experts conducting a recent clinical study feel the benefits of a hobby like sewing cannot be over-stated. When put to the scientific test, sewing lowered blood pressure and respiration more than other hobbies. Quilters sleep better and have fewer colds. Quilter s wounds healed faster. Working with needle and thread was found to give Quilters the time and space to think their own thoughts, dream their own dreams, and to plan their lives. Quilting is about love and relationships. It can be life-affirming and life-giving. In short, quilting is therapy! It s good for us!
