5 OUR 2019 QUILT SHOW Report from the Quilt Show Committee Meeting on February 20, 2018 It was a great meeting last night! So much was accomplished. I appreciate everyone who attended and missed those that couldn't join in the fun. Here s what we did: 1. Welcome and introductions with thirteen members present. 2. Committees were reviewed with all chair positions filled except for Registration. Additional committee members are needed for Admissions, Floor Plan/Take Down, Publicity, and Signage. Duties of each committee were presented and all present asked to review by next meeting for updates/changes. 3. Four NQA Certified Quilt judges were brought forth for consideration and discussion. The vote was eleven for Dr. Scott Murkin, who has judged throughout the country including American Quilter s Society, National Quilt Association, QuiltCon, and the International Quilt Association. Second choice with two votes was Lorraine Covington. 4. Treasurer Sue Berry asked all quilt show committee members to use color-coded income and expense forms. Receipts along with orange form should be brought to quilt show meetings for reimbursement by check. 5. Possible show themes were presented and discussed. The unanimous choice was Inspired Piece Makers. The show flyer was discussed with suggestions made in anticipation of a logo created for presentation at the meeting. 6. The Vendors and Sponsors committee presented ideas for vendor booth sizing, pricing with a discount to encourage and reward early registration, and wording for a cancellation policy to include in the vendor contract. Their suggestions were unanimously accepted. 7. Proposed topics for the next meeting on 20th: select/approve logo design, brainstorm categories and descriptions for registration form, and featured artist. Respectfully submitted, Judy Coffman, Chair Judy McWhorter, Co-Chair Busy Hands Busy Hands will meet on Monday, 19, at Barnes and Noble, Tanglewood at 6:30. We meet for about 1½ hours. All are welcome. Bring a handwork project or ideas and questions to share. Any questions, or text Ann Ware. 7 Upcoming Programs April Our Spring Social May - Pat Sloan Trunk Show and Workshop June to be arranged July - Miniature Quilts with Donna Kittelson ~ Dawn Schaben, Program Chair Avanté Quilt Machine for Sale I have my long arm quilting / mid arm machine for sale. Details and a photo can be seen in the February newsletter. Please call me if you are interested. ~ Linda Whisman, Consider Running For Guild Treasurer The nominating committee is seeking members to be on the election ballot for guild positions. Those elected will serve as our next group of leaders. Some members believe the Treasurer position is complicated. However, I want to emphasize that the Treasurer position has only four essential tasks pay bills, make deposits, balance the checkbook, and update the budget using a very simple computer spreadsheet. I have found that these essential tasks take less than an hour each month. Almost any member of the Guild could handle this position after an initial orientation. I encourage all members to consider being on the next ballot for Guild positions. Sincerely, Sue Berry, Treasurer Calling All Young Quilters The next Floyd Quilt Guild show will be held May 18-19, The show will have two categories for young quilters, under age 12 and ages If you have any young quilters in your family, please encourage them to enter their work in the quilt show. There is prize money attached to winning a ribbon! Regulations and entry forms are available on the Floyd Guild website: Contact Sue Berry at or sueberry1@cox.net for more information.
