Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Page 3 Every day, social media s influence grows and becomes woven into everyday life. This year, Facebook has 2 billion active users.. Active users are those which have logged into Facebook during the last 30 days.. What does that have to do with investing? Facebook can bring together and form communities of people that have a passion for investing. As a community of investors, you can share information about companies that exist in your portfolios, you can dialogue about analysis techniques or plan educational events all through social media. Since most publicly traded companies have a Facebook pages, investment clubs can monitor current events within a company which can sometimes impact investment decisions. Also, more financial professionals are using social media to post their opinions and analysis to their investment audience which can be valuable. BetterInvesting has enabled everyday people from all walks of life to take control of their own investments and make more informed financial decisions. Well, social media, especially Facebook, is a part of that. The Georgia BetterIinvesting Chapter has aa FB page and we would love to have you be a part of our investor community. You can find out about upcoming events within the Georgia Chapter. Like us on Facebook. betterinvestinggeorgiachapter/

Page 4 Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter DID YOU KNOW? Your Georgia Chapters Volunteers hands are tied How can you help? Is Your Club Willing to pay it forward? We get request almost every week from Georgians wanting to join an investment club. We immediately refer them to the Georgia Chapter Model Club, (ACME) but in many times it does not work out because of ACME s meeting location, time or day of the week of their meeting. On 18 September 2017 our President sent out an asking for your assistance with little or no response. I am repeating the message again and request your club consider assisting: Interest in learning about investing and investment clubs is increasing day by day. Your chapter directors routinely receive calls from people inquiring about joining an investment club. Unfortunately, SEC r e g u l a t i o n s prohibit us from recommending clubs to individuals because of liability concerns. The home office of BetterInvesting worked with the SEC and developed the Visit-A-Club program. Clubs interested in new members can submit their club information and a contact person and this information will be listed on our chapter website. At this time we only have 12 clubs signed up for the program. We need more. Please discuss this request at your next club meeting. If your club is interested, complete the application which is found on the Georgia Chapter website at: chapter/georgia/atlanta/visitaclub/ default.htm All of us have benefitted from our membership in BetterInvesting and are willing to pay it forward. Please take this opportunity to do so. I hope you will consider this request.

Come have fun with us you will not be disappointed with our results ACME s Compounded Annual Return (CAR) for 9 years running is 10.8 % The ACME Investment Club is the Georgia Chapter Model Club for individuals interested in learning more about investing in stock utilizing the Better Investing (BI) methodology. The ACME Investment Club has seen a nice increase in club membership in 2017 with membership currently at 20 members. We are averaging approximately two new prospective members at each monthly meeting. The Club developed a marketing committee to address the needs of club membership to include new member packets and a visitor s packet. We are also very proud of our portfolio performance over the past ten years when compared to the Vanguard 500 Index Fund (VFINX). Since January 1, 2007 to December 13, 2017, ACME s total return has been 10.8% compared to the VFINX total return of 8.5% for the same timeframe. We regularly invest our monthly contributions and reinvest all company dividends back into our portfolio. We also maintain a Watch List of stocks we may want to consider for future investments. If you or someone you know is interested in visiting us, the ACME Investment Club meets the second Saturday of the month from 12:00pm to 2:00pm at our new temporary meeting place located at the Ponce De Leon Library Meeting Room, 980 Ponce De Leon Avenue NE, Atlanta, GA If you are unable to visit us at the Ponce De Leon Library Meeting Room, you are welcome to join us online via GoToMeeting. 6 Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Page 6 20 th Anniversary Recognition Stock-Up Investment Club Allow me to introduce you to the current members of the Stock-Up Investment Club. No, the name did not come from our current investment education program StockUP. The StockUp series offers Better- Investing members a unique perspective on investing topics designed to improve your ability to conduct a stock analysis, manage a portfolio, make or sell decisions and more. The Stock-Up Investment Club, formed in 1997, uses the assorted tips, and explorations of the same named educational series for its club members to emulate and incorporate into the management of its investment portfolio. It was a wonderful opportunity to visit a club totally immersed in the BetterInvesting methodology using the BI tools. After 20 years in existence, the club has downsized to the current membership of 5 partners. They include from left to right: Virginia Benzier, a former director with the former Atlanta Chapter, Barbara Robinson, Ann Dilts and Valerie Willis, a lifetime member and also a former director with the former Atlanta Chapter. The fifth member, Virginia Novak, was not present for this photo opportunity. Valerie is holding the photo of the founding members of Stock-Up Investment Club. I would say, the BI educational series is using the name of a well-organized, productive and effective investment club. Congratulations ladies on 20 years of successful investing. Another successful Club in Georgia Celebrates

Page 7 Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Know your Director Jim Vandersall Jim Vandersall has been an Associate Director for the Georgia Chapter since late 2016 and is currently the President of the Middle Georgia Investment Club. He is a retired Air Force Communications Officer and currently works for the Office of Personnel Management as an Information System Systems Security Officer. He enjoys working with computers, dissecting stock market rationale, and scuba diving. He is getting ready to embark on an annual scuba trip to the Caribbean (St. Maarten). Jim is originally from Akron Ohio (Go Buckeyes!) and currently lives in Perry Georgia with his wife Lynda. He has two daughters (Allyson and Heather) and three grandchildren. Allyson and the grandchildren are currently on their way to Japan for a three year Air Force tour. Jim has been the President of the Middle Georgia Investment Club since its inception in The club was formed by an initial group of ten members working at Robins Air Force Base. Today, five of those original members remain with the club, and we have added several others with a membership today of thirteen. The club has a current portfolio of 22 stocks. Some of the individual winners have been Illinois Tool Works (ITW), Canadian National Railways (CNI) and Cognizant Technology (CTSH). But as with any educational undertaking, we have made our mistakes also. The club was recently featured on CNBC in December of last year with a focus on How investors would change their approach based upon the election. We simply explained that we strictly adhere to the Better Investing philosophy and did not plan to change our approach based upon an election. Get your free iclub Newsletter at

Page 10 Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Did we see you at the Investors Fair?

Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Page 11 Third Annual Georgia Chapter Investors Fair recap The fair gave many of our chapter investors the ability to see nationally recognized analysts and investors speak to us. Many of the audience had the opportunity to speak with them. Doug Gerlach and Cy Lynch both presented on subjects concerning finding small stocks to invest, and when to sell. Also, Deane Jaeger presented a topic of how to make an 18% return. Each had other topics just as interesting. We also had a regional presenter Denise Kimberlin who spoke about financial ratios and adding judgment. Our own Howard Johnson presented steps to take on using SSG Core and SSG Plus. We hope to work hard again on next year s fair to make it even more enjoyable with national speakers presenting topics of interest to all levels of investor experience. We aim for the times of the old Atlanta Chapter when we had turnouts of several hundred investors. Those fairs were held in the old Sheraton Hotel in Buckhead where we had many firms turnout to spread their company good word at their kiosks around the grand ballroom. We can plan to have activities such as this with your help in showing your demand for investor education. Our main avenues of contact with you is through our newsletter that you are reading now, and the BetterInvesting campaign program Interspire where we notify members of coming events. Unfortunately, our experience shows that only about 25% of the recipients, whose s we send to, open the messages. So the word is not getting around to everybody. Please, if you have disabled your e- mail with BetterInvesting or your e- mail has changed, me at: c.redmond@att.net or our president, Howard Johnson, at hlj51@ comcast.net for us to get you back to receiving all messages from the chapter. If you are receiving Chapter s, please open them in order to see the many educational opportunities that may be coming your way. We hope to see you again next year for an even better fair. Clair Redmond, Your Educational Vice President

Professional Women's Investment Group Carole Seegert, Pam Thomasson, Connie Jones, Nancy Brown Cornett, & Ann Newman 2nd row Nancy Terrill, Maryel Battin, Kay Gerhardt, Ginny Atkins and Shelley Callender Jim Vandersall and Ann Newman visited the Professional Women's Investment Group in Macon, GA at their local Ronald McDonald House. One of their members was attending the meeting via FaceTime on the cell phone. Their club is about 21 years old. They asked me to demonstrate the Online Tools Plus using CVS, which is one of their holdings. All were members of BI, so they qualified for the club upgrade to Plus (for those who did not previously use Plus.) We thoroughly enjoyed our visit!! Thanks to all. Ann Newman

Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Page 13 Article from Traveling Volunteer The Market Will Crash! The Market Will Crash hooray!?!? Hooray, why am I glad? I will explain in a moment. For months, years, even decades they have said the market will crash; and they are right and it will happen again. I was talking with Carl Hinton yesterday, a fellow Georgia Director, on how the market is over valued and it is going to pull back (crash) any day now. We discussed that the uninformed investor will overreact when the market falls and sell out of fear. So, I thought of an analogy. I noticed today that a local supermarket has ribeye steaks on sale for $6.99 per pound. But I have steaks in my freezer that I paid $9.99 per pound. Should I take those steaks out of my freezer and sell them to my neighbors for $6.99 because the market for ribeye steaks has dropped? Probably not. I may buy MORE ribeye steaks and take advantage of the sale. Think of the market the same way. When the market crashes, pulls back, sells off, etc. whatever the pundits call it that day, don t panic, load up your freezer on good quality stocks. BI has shown us how to identify good quality stocks at a reasonable price. Take advantage of the sale, and say HOORAY! When the price for ribeye steaks fall you don t sell the redeye's in your freezer.

Page 14 Newsletter Title We Congratulate Kudzu Growth Investment Club The club received their 20th anniversary certificate. The club had some very astute questions about their portfolio and the SSG which they have used over the life of the club to build their six figure portfolio. 16 of 21 members were present Job well done. Things are Looking Great for Georgia Chapter 2018 Investors Fair We have four confirmed presenters for our August 25 th fair. While all topics have not been reported by the presenters, we can be assured they will be interesting. We have Mark Roberson from Manifest Investing, Ron Bruyn from the southern California chapter, Denise Kimberlin returning from South Carolina, and our own Howard Johnson demonstrating the Stock Selection Guide Plus and Stock Selection Guide Core. We will have a total of 12 and maybe even 17 classes throughout the day touching on topics for the beginner, intermediate, and advanced investor. All attendees will leave with information to augment their investing knowledge and perhaps a few companies to further study. The chapter hopes that we will have an even larger turnout than last year when we had 105 participants. We intend to have more space than last year s fair and hope that you will register early through Even Brite. Hope to see you there! Clair Redmond, Education Vice President

Georgia Chapter BI Newsletter Joy Luck Investment Club Page years going strong due to organization and cooperation Making a plan then working the plan Please join us in extending congratulations to one of our special clubs. Celebrating 20 years with BetterInvesting is the Joy Luck Investment Club. As the name implies, this is a group of women that is true to its club name they are a joyful group of ladies and have done well in their investments. On the night of this visit, the club s portfolio crossed the $100, milestone. Contributing to this success is the due diligence in following the BI principles along with using the BI tools. Each member subscribes to one of the online tools while having at least one of the stocks in the portfolio to follow and report on at each meeting. In the front row are Melissa Hartfield, Anita Reiter, and Shelly Cohen. In the back row are Sydell Kalnitz, Sherlyn Lippmann, Janie Simon, Harriett Kaminsky, Reba Bachrach, Karen Rosenberg, and our newest member Cynthia McCrary. The founding members are Janie Simon, Reba Bachrach, Sydell Kalnitz, and Joan King who is not present.
