2 Guild Events March 5th - 1:00 pm. Officers will be meeting at 12:00 noon, one hour prior to the general meeting. All members are welcome and encouraged to attend. The demonstration this month will be on braiding an ornament stand with a 4 thong braid. Followed by showing a process for making a 6 thong braid. 3 Hi Everyone! First, A Big Welcome to our most recent new members Gary Bagwell, Barry and Carol Bradham. I would like to mention again in this monthly introduction that while the core group of Lone Star Leather Crafters in located in the DFW area we have members from all over Texas, the US and the World. We would really like to have each member become involved in the Facebook postings, the Newsletter articles, and the webpage content. If you are interested in providing an article for the newsletter, pictures of recent leather work, or activities that Lone Star members have been involved with in your area please provide us with input for inclusion in the newsletter. Contact information is located on each of the sites. This month Jo Spencer, Pat Spencer and Darla Sellers held a project day for one of the 4H Clubs in the DFW area. The 4H members made a coaster for their initial project, the attendees had lots of fun as they received an introduction into leathercraft. Some pictures are included in the picture section of the newsletter. The guild plans on holding more classes in the near future. The guild had a great meeting in February, Bob Alexander gave us a great briefing on upcoming demonstrations over the next few months, more detail on these in a separate section of the newsletter. Bob has become a great ambassador for the guild, he has been travelling and visiting with some of our non-local members and always brings back some really great stories, many thanks for all of your hard and fun work. In addition Bob Alexander and Pat Spencer have taken on the task of consolidating the guild property and paperwork. I mention this only because in the process they have come across a vast amount of guild history. We hope to be able to share some of the more interesting items in future newsletter articles. This too deserves A Very Big Thank You! At the February meeting George Hurst made his initial briefing to the guild on committee activity associated with the upcoming 2017 IFOLG show that will be held the DFW area (not the 2016 show). He and Dave Smith have both been putting lots of effort into this project. George will continue to give updates and begin developing the various needed committees in the coming months. As you can tell there is a lot going on behind the scenes. There is also a lot of great leatherwork being done by the members. Please join us at our meetings if you can, this is where the real fun happens. There is always a lot of great leather work shared by members and lots of great time to just talk with other leather workers. Hope you can join us, Cartie 3

Saddle Contest Returns to Wichita Falls for 2016 In 2016 the Saddle Makers Contest start anew, based on growing interest, with a new venue for contests.

Box Fort Worth, TX contact: djstx@flash.net Our Guild The Lone Star Leather Crafters Guild was established in Fort Worth, Texas in 1986 by a small group of leather enthusiasts. Today, our Guild has grown into an international organization with members in the United States, Austria, Brazil, Germany, Japan, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, and The Netherlands. Our skill levels range from novice to master, hobbyist to professional, with all members willing to share their ideas and skills with other leather enthusiasts. If you are interested in learning more about our Guild, we invite you to visit a monthly meeting which is held on the second Tuesday of the month. Membership in the Guild is $20 for a single membership, $30 for a family membership, or a onetime $150 for a lifetime membership (U.S. funds). Dues are payable in January. All submissions for the Newsletter should be submitted to the address or to your left. Submissions must be accompanied by the name and address of writer and are subject to editing for clarity and/or length. The deadline for submission is the 25th of the month prior to publication. 6

7 Texas State University has arranged for the original cast and crew of The Lonesome Dove to gather in Ft. Worth, TX for a once-in-a-lifetime reunion of the icons that were part of this award winning series. Funds raised as a part of that event will benefit the Wittliff Collections. This 18X24 carving by Lone Star Leather Crafters member Jim Linnell, will be autographed by the cast and crew of The Lonesome Dove and be auctioned off at the gala on March 31st, making it the ultimate collectable for the Lonesome Dove fan. 7

10 Lone Star holds Classes for 4-H Group Lone star Members Pat Spencer, Jo Spencer and Darla Sellers conducted classes for The 4-H at the Tandy Flagship Store on two consecutive Saturdays. They had a good turnout and from the looks of the pictures, everyone had a good a lot of fun. Below is the first group. 10

12 222 Blackburn St Rhinelander, WI USA Tel: Fax: Complimentary Guild Subscription Program The Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal and the International Federation of Leather Guilds have come together to offer a special complimentary subscription program to all guilds to help bolster guild membership. The program is made of two parts as follows. Part 1 New members to your guild are eligible for one free ½ year (3 issues) subscription to the Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal, compliments of the Journal. A guild officer is asked to be responsible for submitting the names and addresses of these new members on a regular basis to the Leather Crafters & Saddlers Journal, attention Brian (see mailing address or address above). Part 2 When a current member either subscribes for the first time or renews their subscription to the Journal, $6.00 for each year of the subscription will be paid to the respective guild from the Journal. A one-year subscription will produce a $6.00 payment and a two-year subscription will produce a $12.00 payment to the guild. The member needs to make the Journal aware that the guild is to receive credit for the new or renewed subscription. The Journal can provide preen coded flyers to the guild which, when used by the members, will ensure that proper credit will be given to the guild. If the guild is a member of the International Federation of Leather Guilds, the IFoLG will also receive $6.00 for each year of the paid subscription (for new subscriptions only). Have you discovered a new trick that you d like to share? How about storage tips? Every leather crafter continually looks for ideas on how to store more supplies, tools, and so on.
