2 SPONSORS TO DATE An Adult Comedy at the Lyric Theatre May 24 MESSER & MESSER Law Offices LEADERship Class 23 IT IS NOT ABOUT ME To be a sponsor contact Jason Berger at (772) Martin County LEADERship Alumni hosts comedy show for scholarships Stuart 4 national comedians will perform at the Lyric Theatre Sat., May 24 at 6 and 8:30 p.m. to fund the Martin County Youth Leadership Scholarship. Hank Western and friends Brad Trackman, Mike Rivera, and Johnny Mac will perform at both shows, sponsored by the headlining sponsor McCarthy, Summers, Bobko, Wood, Norman, Bass, and Melby, P.A. We re excited to bring comedy to the Lyric. The shows will be a lot of fun and the money raised will help high school graduates pursue a college education, said Carl Newton, president of the Martin County Alumni Leadership and co-chair of the event. This is a great event for LEADERship Martin County Alumni and the student leaders of our area, said Jason Berger, board member and co-chair of the event. Tickets for the show are available online at and at the Lyric Theatre s Box Office. Red Carpet sponsors include Keiser University, Seacoast National Bank Wealth Management and the Law Office of Jason Berger. Sponsorships are still available and only sponsors will attend a special VIP party before the 6 p.m. show. This is my first time back on stage after 19 months off because of a lengthy battle with cancer. Although I ve performed all over the country, I m excited that my return to the stage will be in Martin County because I ve never performed in there, said Hank Western. Western said he knows this will be a great show because the stars are some of the best in the business. 3 Kauffman Wins 2014 WOD Ferraro and Djahed Win Awards Barbara Kauffman (9) President and CEO of the Council on Aging is presented the Soroptimist Women of Distinction Award in the Civic/Professional Category from Janice Norman (14) and Sharon Kinane (9) Co-Chairs of the event. Barbara, a much deserved honor for your continued advocacy for seniors, both in our community and in the State of Florida. Event honors extraordinary women who have made outstanding contributions to our area. Class 24 s G a b r i e l l a Ferraro, Martin County Community and Outreach Coordinator won Communicator of the Year for her government achievements and Lisa Djahed, Marketing Director for Elliott Museum won the Judges Award for Merit on the Elliott Museum s 2013 Annual Report. These awards were given from the Treasure Coast Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association. Books Donated to Helping People Succeed Carolyn Timmann(5) and her staff held a book drive to benefit Helping People Succeed in recognition of National Literacy Month. Suzy Hutcheson(1) is shown receiving over 130 books that were donated. Suzy, CEO of Helping People Succeed, is celebrating their 50th Anniversary. She has been an outstanding LEADER though out the country promoting people who are in need to succeed. Suzy has given to our community tirelessly and continues to Make A Difference everywhere she goes. May 2014 LEADERship Alumni Newsletter Page 3
4 Alumni Support Education Class 19 alumni, Raul Ocampo, Robert Kilbride, Kelly Pelletier, Lisa Rhodes, Brad Love and Ryan Strom joined together as a class to attend An Evening of Excellence/Bids for Kids Auction. The Education Foundation, initiated by Class 2, coordinates this annual fundraiser event every year. Rhodes is the Executive Director and Strom serves as President this year. Elliot Paul (6), a board member, was the auctioneer for the event. A strong family of community LEADERs. Darcy Flierl (20) is the new Director of Program for SafeSpace having joined them in March. She has a 15 year career in social work. Flierl will manage the emergency shelter, outreach staff and run programs. Alumni Purpose The purpose of LEADERship Martin County Alumni is to support the LEADERship Martin County Program; to provide education and networking opportunities for our members; and to enhance community awareness of our members by providing opportunities to evaluate and act on issues affecting the community.
