2 About the Catalyst Awards The annual Catalyst Awards event recognizes outstanding leadership, both individual and institutional, in advancing the mission of Science Club for Girls to foster excitement, self-confidence and science literacy for girls, particularly those from minority or low-income communities. The Catalyst Awards celebrate extraordinary achievement toward realizing the Science Club for Girls vision to catalyze a fully diverse and inclusive STEM community. Honorees will be announced in summer Over 200 guests from the Massachusetts STEM community attend each year, and the Catalyst Awards event presents a unique opportunity for sponsors to network as well as be inspired by the work that our girls do as part of Science Club for Girls. This year s event takes place in the dynamic District Hall in Boston s Seaport Innovation District. Science Club for Girls will showcase current science projects from our girls, and as part of a brief speaking program that includes the award presentations, a select group of current participants and recent alumnae will share their experiences about the transformative impact that SCFG has had on their lives. The Catalyst Awards event is the signature annual fundraising event for Science Club for Girls, providing the resources we need to keep our programs free for the girls who need them most. About Science Club for Girls Founded in Cambridge in 1994, Science Club for Girls brings girls together with professional and student scientists and engineers in free, fun afterschool science clubs

The clubs give young girls an opportunity to get involved in science and engineering activities in a fun, nurturing, interactive environment, an opportunity they might not otherwise receive.

3 About Science Club for Girls Founded in Cambridge in 1994, Science Club for Girls brings girls together with professional and student scientists and engineers in free, fun afterschool science clubs and challenge teams that focus on technical skills and inquiry-based learning. The clubs give young girls an opportunity to get involved in science and engineering activities in a fun, nurturing, interactive environment, an opportunity they might not otherwise receive. As of fiscal year 2016, Science Club for Girls provides programs in 18 sites across eastern Massachusetts, including Boston, Cambridge, Newton, Brookline and Lawrence. Sites can be found at schools, community centers, hosted on the campuses of colleges and universities, and inside the corporate offices of our partner companies.

Sponsorships allow our girls to look through microscopes and telescopes for the first time, build prototypes, launch rockets, make mobile apps, explore academic and career paths previously unknown to them, and form lasting, supportive relationships with each other and with mentors who can guide their journeys. For our older girls, SCFG programs strongly influence academic choices and longer-term achievements. survey of program alumnae uncovered these striking results: A Surveys of our elementary school participants show that girls who have been with us for two years or more are more likely than girls who ve just joined our program to identify strongly with statements such as: I like science, I am good at science, I look forward to science class, and I want to be a scientist. Science Club for Girls is proud to have been recognized as a 2012 Root Cause Social Innovator, as well as a recipient of the 2010 After School Innovator Award from the MetLife Foundation and Afterschool Alliance, among other distinctions.
