2 MS DINNER OF CHAMPIONS The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, MS Dinner of Champions is an annual event that honors outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to the community as civic and business leaders. This event mobilizes people and resources to drive research for a cure and helps address the challenges of everyone affected by multiple sclerosis. The MS Dinner of Champions recognizes distinguished leaders in the community who have made a great impact on the lives of others through their professional and civic achievements. It is a high-profile and leadership fundraising event that unites all of those involved in the MS Movement. This year s event will take place August 21, 2018 at the Beau Rivage Hotel and Casino and will honor William G. Yates, III with the Society s prestigious Hope Award for his exceptional dedication and leadership. The Hope Award The Hope Award is the highest award given by the Alabama-Mississippi Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. It honors community leaders who embody the ideals of the Society. The award is presented at the annual MS Dinner of Champions event along with tributes to the honoree. A Southern Affair Join us for this annual event and enjoy live entertainment, cocktails, a wonderful dinner catered by the talented staff at the Beau Rivage Resort and Casino, silent auction, champagne and diamonds drawing and the Toast to a Cure. 2

3 2018 Hope Award Winner WILLIAM G. YATES, III William G. Yates III is the CEO/President of W.G. Yates & Sons Construction Company. Prior to becoming president in 2003, William served for several years as the Executive Vice President of the Gulf Coast Division of Yates Construction. Yates Construction is a nationally recognized contractor and has been consistently listed in the Engineering News Record s top 50 contractors in the US. Noted projects include Nissan automotive facilities in the United States and Mexico, Beau Rivage Resort & Casino in Biloxi, Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa in Atlantic City, the US District Courthouse in Jackson, Mississippi, and the Inn on Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina. Yates has provided services all over the world including Russia, Mexico, China, India and Indonesia. William obtained a bachelor degree in business administration from the University of Mississippi summa cum laude and was a Taylor Medalist. William also earned a Master of Science degree in construction management from Arizona State University. He is a Certified Public Accountant. William is the chair of the Mississippi Economic Council. He is also the former chair of the Mississippi Partnership for Economic Development. He serves on the Board of Directors for Trustmark Corporation and Trustmark National Bank. He has served on the Millsaps College Board of Trustees and the Blueprint Mississippi Advisory Council. At the request of the Governor, he served as the Co-Chairman of the Southeast U.S. - Japan Association Joint Meetings in both Japan and Mississippi. William serves on the Executive Committee of the Gulf Coast Business Council. In 2016, William received the United Way of South Mississippi President s Award and was recognized as one of the top CEOs of Mississippi by the Mississippi Business Journal. Also in 2016, he was awarded the University of Mississippi s Farrington Distinguished Entrepreneurship Award. He has been featured in the Mississippi Business Journal and the Sun Herald as a Top Business Leader under Forty and was inducted into the Roland Weeks Hall of Fame Outstanding Community Leaders Class of In 2009, William was named the Construction Person of the Year by the Mississippi Chapter of Associated Builders and Contractors. William has also been named one of South Central Construction's Top 20 under 40. William is a past board member for the University of Mississippi Foundation, past chair of Mississippi Associated Builders and Contractors (MABC), and past chair for the American Heart Walk for the Mississippi Gulf Coast. He has served as President of the Board of the United Way of South MS and on the board of the Gulf Coast Community Foundation. He also has served on the Advisory Council of the MSU School of Architecture, and on the Advisory Committee of the USM School of Engineering Technology. William is married to Tara Duett Yates. They reside in Biloxi with their sixteen year old daughter, Abby, and their fourteen year old son, Gully, where they are members of the First United Methodist Church of Biloxi. 3

Learn more at About Multiple Sclerosis Multiple sclerosis is an unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system that disrupts the flow of information within the brain, and between the brain and body. Symptoms range from numbness and tingling to blindness and paralysis. The progress, severity and specific symptoms of MS in any one person cannot yet be predicted, but advances in research and treatment are leading to better understanding and moving us closer to a world free of MS. Most people with MS are diagnosed between the ages of 20 and 50, with at least two to three times more women than men being diagnosed with the disease. MS affects more than 2.3 million worldwide. 5
