The primary objective of this course is the development of techniques and processes that enable the student to develop, analyze, and convey spatial concepts to an external audience. While recognizing interrelationships with digital design media, emphasis is placed upon freehand drawing, schematic diagramming, perspective sketching, color rendering, and graphic design techniques. Linking the hand, eye, and intellect will be the ultimate concern. Course Objectives In accordance with the Council for Interior Design Accreditation Standards this course will help students develop competence in: Drafting and lettering (Standard 5a) Illustrative sketching (Standard 5b) Presentation of color, materials, and furnishings (Standard 5c) Rendering in a variety of techniques (Standard 5f) Perspective drawing(standard 5g) Communication through alternative presentation techniques (Standard 5j) Reinforce an understanding of: Design elements (for example, space, line, shape, texture) and principles (for example, scale, proportion, balance, rhythm, emphasis, harmony, variety) related to the morphological features of buildings and interiors (Standard 3a) Aesthetic theories and principles (for example, color theories, design composition) (Standard 3b,c) And encourage: Learning experiences that incorporate critical, analytical, and strategic thinking (Standard 2f) Creative thinking, exhibiting a variety of ideas, approaches, and concepts with originality and elaboration (Standard 2g) Ability to think visually and volumetrically (Standard 2h) Interaction with practicing professionals as jurors, project critics, and guest lectures (Standard 1g) IND2313 syllabus.doc Page 1 of 6
