Pool Tournament SUN., MAR. 6 Bowling Bash Good Friends, Good Times and New Beginnings First of all, I sincerely want to thank you for electing me to the Board of Directors for another three years and I appreciate the Board selecting me as your Commodore. I m excited for the challenge and ask for your continued support throughout Also, a warm welcome to new Board member, Craig Harris. Craig, will be a great addition to the Board and I look forward to working with him! Thank you to Ken Gall for his commitment to our club during his two terms as Commodore. His efforts and dedication have certainly left us in a stronger position as we move forward. This is also the time to thank outgoing board member, Dick Anderson. Dick has served on the Board for many years and has contributed significant time and diverse talents which cannot be matched. He is one of those people you want to clone! Dick will continue to manage the Garbage Can Dinner and Viva Las Vegas Night. Look for Dick driving his dusty rose Cadillac around town! HLYC would not be the best club in town if we did not have the most selfless members. As such, I have many members to thank for their individual and team contributions. Jan Petrakis and her team for everything involved in making the Kids Christmas Party such a success. Bill and Julie Nelsen and their team for hosting the Member s Christmas Party. Riggs and Vickie Jessen for hosting the New Year s Eve Party. The entire Board appreciates everyone s help and support of these events. Finally, I want to thank our Club Manager, Nancy Nielsen, for all she does for the club throughout the entire year. (continued on next page)
2 Good Friends (continued) We have lots coming up in the new year starting with the Installation of Officers Dinner and Dance which will be held Saturday, February 6th. All members are invited so please join us for this fun celebration. The Super Bowl Party is February 7th (with or without our Packers) and the Martini Martuney Party is February 20th. There is a clip and save 2016 Schedule of Events in this edition of the Beacon. Save the dates! Your Board of Directors and all our volunteers have a ton of projects in the works for the coming months and we are always on the lookout for new fun ideas, so any suggestions you have are greatly appreciated. We will be continually updating our Website, Facebook Page and the Beacon so all of our events will be on social media and in print. One of our club goals this year will be to update our television s and sound system. We have discussed having a fund raiser to get this initiative underway so if you have any ideas, let s get working! Regards, Patrick Scott, Commodore Thank You Kids, Elves and Santa too! I have many elves (members) to thank for making the 2015 Kid s Christmas Party a success! My shopping elves were Jan Lechner, Bonnie Klemick, Carol Fritchen and Michelle McFarland. My super gift wrappers were Bonnie Klemick, June Spaulding, Sue Jacobson and Pat Geisler. Helping with crafts and games were: Bonnie Klemick and Cyndi Knapp- Finley who had the kids decorate a huge present. Carol Fritchen manned the duck pond. Mrs. Claus, Jean Shelby, and elves, Olivia and Morgan, helped the kids create paper plate penguin ornaments. Eric Ebinal did an outstanding job with Santa s Recreation Center. My daughter, Erica Karch, created a snowball popper which the kids really enjoyed! We also had some younger elves helping this year: Vision Karch, Chase McFarland, and Isaiah Eisch. Extra thanks to Heidi Kappa and Sue Turner for tending the ice cream bar and food buffet! Sue Musurlian was our gopher elf where needed. As always, Cuddles and Billy the Clown were favorites. Everyone enjoyed singing Christmas carols led by Peggy Hansen. The holiday singing even brought Santa, Erik Hansen, to our party! Dynamite job, Erik! Our Cleanup crew were: Brenda Olmstead, Vonda Thorell, Jan Lechner, Bill Kerkman, Gus Petrakis and Patrick Scott. Not a fun job! A special thanks to Bill and Julie Nelsen for donating hot dogs and buns. Last, but not least, thanks to the parents for bringing such a variety of yummy food and donating a gift to our Toys for Tots collection. Thank you, Ken Waters, for delivering those toys. The club was a hub of holiday joy and laughter all day. Jan Petrakis, Chairperson
3 A Few Words from Ken... A new year is upon us, and the past two years sure went quickly. I would like thank all of the members of Harbor Lite Yacht Club for their support while I was your Commodore. When there was a project or a need at the club, members stepped up to help out. Thanks to the board members that have volunteered their time to assist in the oversight of the club. Thanks also to Nancy Nielsen for all the work that she has done as club manager to keep HLYC running smoothly. Last, and definitely not least, thank you to my wife Wanda, who put up with all of the extra time that I spent at the club as Commodore. Congratulations to our new Commodore Pat Scott! Ken Gall, Vice Commodore A Thoughtful Gesture A sincere thank you to Ruth Ann and Fred Schmidt for donating to the Harbor Lite Building and Kitchen Funds in the memory of these past members: Marguerite Kerkman, Laverne Kerkman, Judy Flegel, John Merlo, Ed Eeg, Jim Morey and John Floyd. What a wonderful way to honor these special people who so enjoyed our club! Thank you for your generosity. Nancy Nielsen, Club Manager The Halloween Costume Masquerade Ball
