We know the answer because Rotary is everywhere. It is not the size of the city but rather, it is the size of the heart of club members that determines the success of a Rotary Club. 3 January 2017 P a g e 3 Tournament of Roses Parade January 2nd Rotary Float Entry The 2017 Float promotes and celebrates the 100 years of The Rotary Foundation. The Foundation empowers Rotarians to travel throughout the world and create and complete projects which serve people in need in six areas of focus which are: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies. The spectacular and colorful dragon is clearly a world traveler carrying luggage decorated with the six symbols of the areas of focus. The Dragon also is proudly wearing a necklace with a medallion marked 100 for the 100 years of service. the float is not a project of Rotary International, and no Rotary International funds are used. Our ability to enter a float is dependent solely on the generosity of Rotarians.
4 January 2017 P a g e 4 Rotary s Sherman Award recipient has long history of influencing community service By BEN BEAGLE BEN@LIVINGSTONNEWS.COM Published Wednesday, December 28, 2016 Ben Beagle/Livingston County News Awardee. From left Geneseo Rotary Past President Art Hatton, Gretchen Crane, Robert Kelsey, wife Donna, and current Rotary President Tim Hayes pose for a photo shortly after Robert Kelsey was presented with the Ray C. Sherman Award for Community Service. Public service has always been key in the life of Robert A. Kelsey. It was just the way we were brought up, said the longtime Geneseo resident. The family was always looking out for others. Kelsey grew up the son of a National Guard commandant, served 20 years himself achieving the rank of major, and taught industrial arts at Geneseo Central School for 33 years where, as an advisor to student council he helped students see the importance of giving back to their community and being helpful to others. Everyone wanted to get involved because of Bob and the scene he set for us, said Gretchen Crane, a former student of Kelsey s who nominated him for Geneseo Rotary s Ray C. Sherman Award for Community Service. The award was presented Dec. 19 during a Geneseo Rotary luncheon. Kelsey was joined by his wife, Donna, their daughter and son-in-law and two granddaughters.
