3 Editor s Desk As I m writing this my holiday lights are hung, the fireplace is back in action, and the first Albuquerque snowfall has arrived. About ½ Inch that fell at night has mostly melted away by mid-morning. I know that may make some east-coasters a bit crazy that we wish for a snowfall, but we love it when it snows in New Mexico. In December I received an from Steve Gilbert that included a link to Insights Magazine a lottery industry trade publication that appears to be free to access online. I perused it a bit and saw the usual articles about what lottery agency was doing what, the state of the industry and other business related articles. At the end of the online table of contents was a link to an article entitled Holiday Instant Catalog. For a collector, this was an interesting article. A number of pages showed images of the holiday issues of scratchers from various states. I noticed right away that New York and New Mexico were missing from their states, but it was interesting nonetheless. I also noticed some sets that we had only one ticket in the guide I ll work on updating those as I find them. This type of information is sometimes available on the state websites and sometimes not. They might display one ticket from the set, and there is no way to identify the others online. In other states, they have an animated GIF image that rotates through all the members of the set. Sometimes we pick up other images that we didn t know about, or at least need to research. Perhaps a member could purchase a complete set to verify validity?. (hint hint). Then I saw some interesting sets, specifically a Maine $250 Christmas Club group that appeared to be $1 tickets. So right away I look and find that we are tracking ay least one of them in the online database as GLCS # ME This would appear to be a candidate for A, B, and C variants!. The Snow Days set hasn t appeared on our GLCS list yet perhaps next month? Ok, who has access to Maine tickets and is reporting to Ron? ME Holiday Issues NH-1259 Coal The subject matter chosen for lottery tickets is sometimes rather humorous. Makes you wonder what the lottery agencies are thinking. They get more and more creative with tickets to make them appealing. It s always fun to see themes related to topics like TV shows, motorcycles, cars, movies, cartoon characters, candy, holidays, the topics seem endless! New Hampshire recently issued a ticket showing a lump of coal wrapped in a red ribbon. Ok, so the good kids get candy in their stocking and the bad ones get a lump of coal according to Christmas lore. When I lived in New Hampshire we heated our home with heating oil. 4 President s Message A Healthy and Happy New Year to all Lotologists and their families should be a great year for our club. Your officers are ready, willing and able to serve you and club business. The election is over but there was one Director s position still open. Our former president, Arthur Rein, was appointed to fill this position. Plans are already underway for this summer s Lotovention here in Philadelphia, PA. There are still plenty of new tickets to collect each and every month. All we need is for you to send them off to Ron Moermond so he can list them. Do you have something to say or any concerns or questions? Contact your officers or think about writing an article for our editor, Gil Davis, to publish in our Lotologist Monthly newsletter. With the New Year here, I am always thinking about those resolutions. Do I keep them? Well I do try. 5 Ohio Passive Tickets Passive Lottery Tickets #11 of 14 New York - by Steven Gilbert The first Ohio passive ticket was a 50 - cent ticket named Buckeye 300. It was printed on white paper with green, gray and black printing. In the upper right hand corner was The Great Seal of the State of Ohio. It was first issued on August 22, Buckeye 300 On October 23, 1975 a new passive ticket was issued called Buckeye The Great Seal was now in the upper right hand corner and its colors were yellow, green and blue on white paper Buckeye 1000 On August 12, 1976 a new ticket was issued called Pot 'O Gold. It cost 50 cents and was also printed on white paper with green, yellow, orange and black printing. On January , "77" was added to the name. Another 50 cent ticket was issued by the end of It was called Weekly 50 cent Game "Extra Cash". Later the Extra Cash was replaced with $500 Win-A-Thon on the right hand side Pot O Gold 1977 Extra Cash On November 1, 1979 there was another design and name change to the weekly 50 cent ticket. This ticket now had a Pyramid and Sun printed on white paper with dull red, tan, gold, and black printing c Pyramid Lotologist Monthly January

6 OH Passive Lottery Tickets (.continued) Ohio's first $1.00 game was called Lucky Buck with a Bonus Jackpot. This ticket was first issued on May 15, 1975 also on white paper. However, the colors of green, orange, yellow and black print were more vivid. Lucky Buck II was issued on July 21, 1977 and Lucky Buck III was issued on August 7, $1 Lucky Buck 1975 Super Santa The $1 Super Santa ticket was issued on December 4, The colors were red, yellow, orange and green on white paper with a large drawing of Santa's head in the center. It appears this ticket was only issued for 6 weekly drawings Double Play 1976 Spirit of 76 Other $1.00 tickets soon followed. January 15, 1976 saw the new game called Spirit of '76 being issued with a large gold Eagle with red and blue printing. Another new game called Double Play was issued on September 16, This $1.00 game had 6 printed colors. On November 1, 1979 a $1.00 ticket called Bonanza was issued with 24 chances to win. It had a drawing of a man panning for gold in the upper left had corner. This ticket was issued on white paper with brown, orange, yellow and green colors. On the lower right hand corner it had Watch for Winning Numbers drawn on TV. If anyone has any extras of these passive tickets I would appreciate receiving them to add to my collection.
